Class III malocclusions are usually growth-related discrepancies, which often become more severe until growth is complete. The surgery can be part of the treatment plan. The purpose of this report is to review the orthodontic treatment of two patients with a Class III malocclusion who were treated non-surgically. The basis for this treatment approach is presented and the final treatment result reviewed. Important factors to consider when establishing a Class III molar relationship are discussed.  相似文献

Tooth transposition is a rare positional anomaly that may create many orthodontic problems. Its etiology is an enigma. The occurrence of mandibular canine/lateral incisor transposition is a relatively rare anomaly. Two rooted canine/rotated incisor transposition has not been reported previously in the clinical dental literature. We describe a case with transposition of a mandibular two rooted canine and a lateral incisor with 180 degrees rotation. Possible causes such as trauma and tooth agenesis were absent in this case. Due to the root anomaly, we consider that our case may have a genetic etiology. Although the mandibular lateral incisor and canine were not in their normal anatomic positions, there were no functional or esthetic problems.  相似文献

We compared early-onset and late-onset obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) patients in terms of demographic and clinical features. One hundred sixteen outpatients whose primary diagnosis was OCD according to DSM-IV diagnostic criteria were recruited. Early-onset (n=50) and late-onset (n=66) OCD groups were compared with respect to demographic variables and scores obtained on various scales. A male gender predominance was found in early-onset OCD group. Symmetry/exactness obsessions, religious obsessions, hoarding/saving obsessions, and hoarding/collecting compulsions also were significantly more frequent in the early-onset group than in the late-onset group. The results may suggest a phenotypic difference between the two groups. Further studies are needed to investigate the differences between early-onset and late-onset OCD groups to examine the hypothesis that early-onset OCD is a distinct subtype of the disorder.  相似文献

Paradoxical enlargement of intracranial tuberculomas or development of new ones during adequate antituberculous chemotherapy is an uncommon event. Treatment of such cases is controversial. Steroid therapy is usually advocated without change in the antituberculous drug program. However, in some patients whose lesions fail medical treatment, or who have superficially located large lesions, surgical therapy may be required. A 15-year-old girl with pulmonary miliary tuberculosis, tuberculous meningitis and multiple intracranial tuberculomas is presented. While her pulmonary lesions and intracranial tuberculomas except one were healed with chemotherapy, one tuberculoma increased in size 1 month after starting chemotherapy. She was followed with dexamethasone treatment in addition to antituberculous therapy for 2 months. Then, the lesion was removed because it had increased in size in spite of appropriate chemotherapy.  相似文献

Leptin is a product of the obese gene and plays an important role in the regulation of body weight and food intake. Weight and appetite are frequently altered in depression. So far, inconsistent results have been reported in terms of leptin levels in depression. Therefore, the authors investigated serum leptin levels in patients with depression and in healthy controls, and whether there was any alteration throughout antidepressant treatment. Female patients showed significantly higher leptin levels than those of the control females both before and after the response to antidepressant treatment, whereas no difference was found between the male patients and the male controls. The improvement from depression with antidepressant treatment caused a further elevation on the leptin levels, in both female and male patients. These findings confirm an increase in leptin levels in depressive patients and presence of a sexual dimorphism. Moreover, clinical response to antidepressant treatment seems to have an additional increasing effect on leptin levels.  相似文献

Web space reconstruction is an important component of syndactyly treatment. There are several methods for a skin graft-free reconstruction. Previously, the dorsal metacarpal island flap based on a direct cutaneous branch of the dorsal metacarpal artery has been used as an island V-Y advancement for web defects in syndactyly. In this study, dorsal metacarpal artery flap was raised similarly as an island but was used instead as a transposition flap in a series of 19 web defects. Early results of a median (range) follow-up of 3 (1-5) years reveal neither recurrence of the deformity nor web creeping. Such utilization of the flap enables a better use of the skin territory proximal to the pedicle and a more comfortable reconstruction of the web space.  相似文献

Glial tumors are the most common tumors of the nervous system, affecting individuals at any age. Since understanding of the molecular pathologies underlying human gliomas is still very poor, the treatment and therefore prognosis of this malignancy could not yet be improved. In order to determine whether different glioblastoma-associated genomic aberrations may serve as prognostic markers in combination with histopathological findings, 20 primary glioblastoma multiforme tumors were screened by comparative genomic hybridization, and the results were compared with histopathological and clinical features. All tumors showed genomic copy aberrations detected by comparative genomic hybridization. Regional and numerical increases in chromosome 7 copy number were the most frequently seen abnormality (10/20 tumors), followed by loss of chromosome 10 (8/20). Both of these aberrations were associated with shorter surveillance time. Chromosome 12q amplification was detected in seven tumors. Loss of 17p, 1p, and 19q in combination was seen in three cases. One of them was a giant cell GBM, whereas the remaining two cases were still alive. Combination of chromosome 1p and 19q deletions was also seen in a case with long surveillance. According to the preliminary findings of this study, in addition to the EGFR gene, amplification of other genes on chromosome 7 and the deletion of PTEN gene and other cancer-related genes on chromosome 10 appeared important to the development of glioblastoma multiforme and were associated with poor prognosis, whereas the combination of chromosome 1p and 19q deletions seems to be an informative molecular marker for better prognosis. The clinical features and genetic alterations of primary and secondary glioblastoma multiforme should be compared in large series to clarify the effective prognostic markers; and further molecular analyses focused on chromosomes 7 and 10 will be very helpful for understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying the progression of glioblastoma.  相似文献
