We report a 10-month-old boy with acute meningo-encephalitis associated with exanthem subitum. It has recently been reported that human herpesvirus-6 is the causative agent of exanthem subitum, and to our knowledge our case is the first report of meningo-encephalitis associated with HHV-6 infection.  相似文献

We have attempted to facilitate differential diagnosis of etiological types of congenital hypothyroidism using real-time ultrasonography. Sonography of the thyroid gland was performed on 418 normal children, and 23 patients with congenital hypothyroidism and hyperthyrotropinemia. The thyroid gland was imaged by transverse scanning at the neck; the maximum thickness and the maximum width of the right and left lobe were measured. On the basis of the normal thyroid gland size obtained from normal children, the thyroid gland image of the patients were classified into 4 types: large image, normal image, small image, and no image of the thyroid gland at the neck: no image of the thyroid gland indicated agenesis or ectopia; large thyroid gland image indicated goitorous hypothyroidism. On the other hand, normal or small thyroid gland image probably included mild or transient forms of hypothyroidism, and transient hyperthyrotropinemia; these 2 types required further examination to complete the diagnosis. We concluded that real-time ultrasonography of the thyroid gland was a useful diagnostic imaging technic for patients who revealed elevated serum thyrotropin on neonatal mass-screening.  相似文献

: The clinical usefulness of a newly developed ultrasound hyperthermia system was evaluated.

: The hyperthermia system uses a modified planer transducer operated at frequencies of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.5 MHz. The transducer has a nonvibrating part at the center to reduce the central hot spot. Frequency sweeping technique is also used to eliminate the annular hot spot around the center. Thirty-eight tumors in 29 patients were examined in this study. In 35 tumors, hyperthermia was given in conjunction with irradiation and/or chemotherapy, and in the remaining 3 tumors, hyperthermia alone was given. In all, a total of 153 hyperthermia sessions were performed.

: The number of hyperthermia sessions per tumor ranged from 1 to 7 (mean, 4.0 ± 1.3). The number of intratumor thermometr points per session ranged from 1 to 8 (mean, 4.3 ± 1.5). The average intratumor temperature for tumors with a maximum depth of <3 cm, 3–6 cm, and >6 cm was 42.1 ± 1.2, 41.7 ± 1.4, and 39.9 ± 2.0°C, respectively. The percentage of monitored intratumor points with temperature exceeding 42°C was 56 ± 31%, 43 ± 34%, and 21 ± 24%, respectively. Of the 30 evaluable tumors treated with combined irradiation, 12 showed complete response, 14 partial response, and 4 no change. Observed complications included pain at the treatment site in 13 of the 153 treatment sessions and vesicle formation in 3 of the 38 treatment sites. No serious complication was seen.

: These results indicate that the newly developed ultrasound hyperthermia system is clinically useful for the treatment of localized superficial and subsurface tumors with a maximum tumor depth of no more than 6 cm.  相似文献

Summary Cefmetazole sodium, a cephamycin antibiotic, was shown to pass through the round window membrane into the inner ear of the guinea pig. The concentration of the drug in the inner ear fluid indicated that a larger amount of the drug reached the inner ear through the round window membrane than when administered intraperitoneally.This study was supported by a Research Grant for Specific Diseases from the Ministry of Health and Welfare's Acute Profound Deafness Research Committee of Japan  相似文献

PURPOSE: To determine the effect of caffeine on microcirculation in the human ocular fundus. METHODS: The microcirculation in the ocular fundus of 10 healthy volunteers (10 eyes) was studied using a laser speckle tissue circulation analyzer. Caffeine or placebo (100 mg) was administered orally in a double-masked manner. Square blur rate (SBR), a quantitative index of blood flow velocity, was measured in a temporal site of the optic nerve head (ONH) free of surface vessels and in a middle site of the choroid-retina between the ONH and macula. Intraocular pressure (IOP), blood pressure (BP), pulse rate (PR), and central critical fusion frequency (CFF) were also measured. These parameters were measured before and for 2 hours after administration. The area under curve (AUC) of SBR was calculated for each area. Ocular perfusion pressure (OPP) was also calculated from BP and IOP. RESULTS: The time-course of change in SBR value showed much individual difference. Caffeine decreased the AUC of SBR in the ONH (P =.0218) as well as in the choroid-retina (P =.0469) significantly. IOP, mean BP, PR, OPP, and central CFF did not change significantly. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that caffeine may increase blood vessel resistance and decrease blood flow in the human ONH and choroid-retina.  相似文献

A series of tetrahydrobenzindoles was prepared, and the affinity of these compounds for the 5-hydroxytryptamine7 (5-HT7) receptor and other receptors was evaluated. Most of the compounds showed high affinity for the 5-HT7 receptor, and 2a-[4-(tetrahydropyridoindol-2-yl)butyl]tetrahydrobenzindole derivatives (26a-j) exhibited high selectivity for this receptor. The nature of the substituent at the 9-position of the tetrahydropyridindole ring affected the affinity for the 5-HT7 receptor, and the 9-carbamoyl moiety afforded increased selectivity. Compound 26j exhibited high affinity for the 5-HT7 receptor, with at least 280-fold selectivity over the 5-HT2 receptor. In a functional model of 5-HT7 receptor activation, this compound was confirmed to have 5-HT7 receptor antagonist activity. It should be a useful tool for clarifying the biological role of the 5-HT7 receptor.  相似文献

Here we report developmental characteristics of clonal cell line 2Y6f1, which was established from an adult p53(-/-) mouse cerebellum. 2Y6f1 began as a homogeneous population of small polygonal epithelial cells, but during passages it gradually became heterogeneous, containing cells of varying size and shape that expressed either neuron- or astrocyte-specific proteins. Supplements to the culture medium altered the levels of some of the cell type markers. For example, addition of insulin increased expression of neurofilaments, while cholera toxin increased that of glial fibrillary acidic protein. In a colony assay, 2Y6f1 cells gave rise to both homogeneous and heterogeneous colonies, consistent with the idea that they contained multipotent neural progenitor cells. Establishment of subclones that were exclusively neuronal or astroglial in differentiation further supported the conclusion that 2Y6f1 cells have many features that may qualify them as bona fide stem cells and make them a useful new model in neural stem cell biology.  相似文献
