This study aimed to prepare biodegradable microspheres containing flurbiprofen sodium, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), as the drug delivery system to the periodontal pocket. Microspheres were prepared from biodegradable copolymers of poly (D,L-lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) using solvent evaporation method. The effects of the different copolymers and amounts of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as a dispersing agent on characteristics of the microspheres were evaluated. Although there was no correlation between microsphere size and amount of PVA, an optimum PVA concentration was essential to achieve narrower size distributions of microspheres. As the concentration of PVA increased, the drug loading of the microspheres increased. The effect of PVA on drug loading was found to be statistically significant for those microspheres prepared from PLGA 50:50 (p < 0.05). Regarding copolymer composition, PLGA 85:15 provided higher drug loading into the microspheres than PLGA 50:50 (p < 0.05). The recoveries of microspheres (60-80%) were affected neither by different PVA concentrations nor by copolymer compositions (p > 0.05). According to the first-order release rate constants of the microspheres, the microspheres of PLGA 50:50 released the drug at the highest rate consistently, with the highest hydrophilicity of this copolymer.  相似文献

The authors observed rosette formation and partially fibrillar, blue-grey, extracellular material in Wright-Giemsa-stained bone marrow aspirate smears in five preparations from three cases of neuroblastoma metastatic to bone marrow. These features are little publicized in the literature and textbooks. These findings in neuroblastoma metastatic to bone marrow should prove helpful in differentiating that entity from acute leukemia and from other metastatic small-cell neoplasms in bone marrow.  相似文献

Osteochondroma is the most common skeletal neoplasm of all benign bone tumors. However, it rarely occurs subungually. In this location, the lesion may penetrate the skin, causing nail deformity, and can easily be misdiagnosed. We report two cases of subungual osteochondroma of the distal phalanges of the first toes with cutaneous penetration and discuss the clinical, histologic, and radiographic features and the treatment options.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: New pericardial aortic bioprostheses (3F Therapeutics and temporarily stented autologous pericardial valve prosthesis) were developed recently. These valves are designed with commissures connected to the aortic wall at only three single points (single point attached commissures (SPAC)). The aim of this study was to investigate the forces acting on SPAC during varying pressure load. METHODS: Aortic roots with diameters 19, 25, and 29 mm were made using silicone polymer. A bovine pericardial SPAC aortic valve prosthesis was constructed using a 3D-mold and was implanted in the silicone aortic root. The base of the valve was sutured onto the aortic annulus with 4-0 polypropylene running suture and each commissure was sutured to a miniaturized force transducer with only one 3-0 polypropylene U-stitch. Three silicon aortic roots of each size were pressurized up to 200 mmHg and forces on SPAC were measured. RESULTS: All valves remained competent at a pressure of 200 mmHg. Recordings showed a linear correlation between applied pressure and forces measured at SPAC. At a pressure of 80 mmHg (equivalent to diastolic pressure), the forces were 0.44+/-0.22N, 1.15+/-0.18N, and 2.00+/-0.35N in annular diameters 19 mm, 25 mm, and 29 mm, respectively. It was observed, that the main forces were acting along the axial direction and not along the radial direction. CONCLUSIONS: Forces on "single point attached commissures" in pericardial aortic valves were measured. These forces were acting mainly in axial direction and not in radial direction. This knowledge is important for the implantation technique of SPAC pericardial aortic valves.  相似文献

Leukocytes play a critical role in recognizing and responding to infection and cancer. Central to this function is an array of cell-surface receptors that lack sequence homology. Many of these receptors have in common the fact that their signaling involves phosphorylation of cytoplasmic domains by extrinsic tyrosine kinases. These non-catalytic tyrosine-phosphorylated receptors (NTRs) share a number of other features, including small size and optimal stimulation by surface–associated ligands. We argue here that NTRs are also likely to share the same kinetic-segregation triggering mechanism, which involves segregation of the engaged NTR from receptor tyrosine phosphatases with large ectodomains such as CD45 and CD148. NTRs signal through tyrosine-containing cytoplasmic motifs, which recruit distinct cytoplasmic signaling proteins when phosphorylated, transducing activatory or inhibitory signals. They have two features that make them uniquely well suited to their role in immune recognition of infection and cancer. Their modular structure enables the coupling of many rapidly evolving receptors with diverse ligand specificities to the same conserved signaling machinery. Their similarity in size and shared signaling machinery enables them to colocalize at cell-cell interfaces when they engage ligands, facilitating the integration of activatory and inhibitory signals from multiple receptors at the cell surface.  相似文献
