High spectral and spatial resolution (HiSS) MR data were acquired at 1.5 T using echo-planar spectroscopic imaging from patients with suspicious breast lesions. The water resonances in small voxels are inhomogenously broadened and often have distinct components. Images were calculated with intensity proportional to the Fourier components of the water resonance in each voxel at different offsets from the peak frequency. The results demonstrate that in breast the off-peak Fourier component images of water are qualitatively different from those derived from the peak height of the water resonance. These differences most likely reflect underlying anatomy or physiology. In conventional images, the superposition of the various Fourier components of the water signal may cause loss of detail. The synthesis of water Fourier component images from high spectral and spatial resolution data may provide a new form of contrast, and increase sensitivity to subvoxel physiology and anatomy. 相似文献

Cardiac tissue engineering aims to create myocardial patches for repair of defective or damaged native heart muscle. The inclusion of non‐myocytes in engineered cardiac tissues has been shown to improve the properties of cardiac tissue compared to tissues engineered from enriched populations of myocytes alone. While attempts have been made to mix non‐myocytes (fibroblasts, endothelial cells) with cardiomyocytes, very little is understood about how the tissue properties are affected by varying the respective ratios of the three cell types and how these cells assemble into functional tissues with time. The goal of this study was to investigate the effects of modulating the ratios of the three cell types and to spatially and temporally track cardiac tri‐cultures of cells. Primary neonatal cardiac fibroblasts and D4T endothelial cells were incubated in 5 µM CellTracker? green dye and CellTracker? red dye, respectively, while neonatal cardiomyocytes were labelled with 20 µg/mL DAPI. The non‐myocytes were seeded either sequentially (pre‐culture) or simultaneously (tri‐culture) in Matrigel‐coated microchannels and allowed to form organoids, as in our previous studies. We also varied the seeding percentage of cardiomyocytes while keeping the total cell number constant in an attempt to improve the functional properties of the organoids. Organoids were imaged on days 1 and 4. Endothelial cells were seen to aggregate into clusters when simultaneously tri‐cultured with myocytes and fibroblasts, while pre‐cultures contained elongated cells. Synapses are specialized junctions that mediate information flow between neurons and their targets. A striking feature of the nervous system is the specificity of its synaptic connections: an individual neuron will form synapses only with a small subset of available presynaptic and postsynaptic partners. Synaptic specificity has been classically thought to arise from homophilic or heterophilic interactions between adhesive molecules acting across the synaptic cleft. Over the past decade, many new mechanisms giving rise to synaptic specificity have been identified. Synapses can be specified by secreted molecules that promote or inhibit synaptogenesis, and their source can be a neighboring guidepost cell, not just presynaptic and postsynaptic neurons. Furthermore, lineage, fate, and timing of development can also play critical roles in shaping neural circuits. Future work utilizing large-scale screens will aim to elucidate the full scope of cellular mechanisms and molecular players that can give rise to synaptic specificity. 相似文献

A study of the social and health status of women from the former Yugoslavia was conducted in Queensland, Australia. Study participants were predominantly refugee women who had migrated to Australia between 1991 and 1996. A significant number of the women rated their health status as poor or fair. Most women did not perceive any change in health following migration, but more felt that their health had deteriorated than improved. Applying a social model of health, we explored the social contexts of countries of origin and destination that impact on women's health. We analyze how preimmigration trauma, settlement problems, health risk behaviors, and participation in screening programs affect women's health status and health needs. Data analysis indicated that government and nongovernment services can reduce the impact of preimmigration experience on health risk behaviors and poor health outcomes only to a limited degree. Since the low socioeconomic status of immigrants following immigration was identified by women as a main contributing factor to their poor health status, government support in tackling structural barriers in accessing the Australian labor market is essential to achieve positive health outcomes. 相似文献

PURPOSE: The objective of this study was to determine whether mast cells (MC) in skin and thyroid gland, cutaneous nerve fibers and eosinophils are sensitive to the influence of electromagnetic fields (EMF). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The experiment was performed on two-month-old Wistar male rats, exposed to 50 Hz EMF (100-300 microT, 54-160 V/m) for 4 h a day, seven days a week during one month. After sacrifice, samples of skin and thyroid were processed for toluidine blue staining or indirect immunohistochemistry. The M42 grid placed in the ocular of a light microscope and a special microscopic frame placed in the ocular of a fluorescence microscope were used for stereological analysis. RESULTS: The numerical and volume density of intact type A MC in the thyroid of the exposed group was significantly higher compared to the control. A number of MC and immunoreactive nerve fibers were observed in the skin and of histamine-immunoreactive MC in the thyroid of exposed animals. The differences in stereological data were not statistically significant by the Mann-Whitney test. CONCLUSIONS: The results indicate certain alterations of cutaneous and thyroid MC in rats exposed to EMF. However, the possible outcome of changes in the MC population under EMF influence on morphophysiological properties of other structures in skin and thyroid requires further investigation. 相似文献

Skin involvement in Hodgkin's disease (HD) is most often a secondary phenomenon representing a rare, late manifestation of dissemination of the disease heralding a grave prognosis. Primary cutaneous HD is very unusual, being reported in 0.5-3.4% of all patients. Based on the introduction of immunohistochemistry for better detection and classification, we report a case with an ostensibly isolated primary cutaneous HD who developed multiple cutaneous lesions 5 years before enlargement of the lymph node involved during relapse. Pathohistology of skin lesions and the involved lymph node indeed showed the same subtype (mixed cellularity) of HD characterized by the presence of CD15+, CD30+, CD45RO- cell-surface markers and by the presence of Epstein-Barr virus+ marker-analyzed immunohistochemistry. 相似文献
