The specific purpose of the participatory action research study was to facilitate formerly incarcerated women who participate in Welcome Home Ministries (WHM) to develop their own plans and specific strategies, and to take action to build their own healthy futures. The research had a duel purpose of joint generation of knowledge and intervention relative to women's capacity building. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) plays an important role in cell division and cancer progression, as well as angiogenesis and metastasis. Since many tumor cells exhibit the EGFR on their surface, functional imaging of EGFR provides not only a non-invasive, reproducible, quantifiable alternative to biopsies, but it also greatly complements pharmacokinetic studies by correlating clinical responses with biological effects. Moreover, molecular endpoints of anti-EGFR therapy could be assessed effectively. C225 is a chimeric monoclonal antibody that targets the human extracellular EGFR and inhibits the growth of EGFR-expressing tumor cells. Also, it has been demonstrated that C225, in combination with chemotherapeutic drugs or radiotherapy, is effective in eradicating well-established tumors in nude mice. We have developed 99mTc-labeled C225 using ethylenedicysteine (EC) as a chelator. This study aimed at measuring uptake of 99mTc-EC-C225 in EGFR+ tumor-bearing animal models and preliminary feasibility of imaging patients with head and neck carcinomas. In vitro Western blot analysis and cytotoxicity assays were used to examine the integrity of EC-C225. Tissue distribution studies of 99mTc-EC-C225 were evaluated in tumor-bearing rodents at 0.5-4 h. In vivo biodistribution of 99mTc-EC-C225 in tumor-bearing rodents showed increased tumor-to-tissue ratios as a function of time. In vitro and biodistribution studies demonstrated the possibility of using 99mTc-EC-C225 to assess EGFR expression. SPECT images confirmed that the tumors could be visualized with 99mTc-EC-C225 from 0.5 to 4 h in tumor bearing rodents. We conclude that 99mTc-EC-C225 may be useful to assess tumor EGFR expression. Researchers of work-related musculoskeletal disorders are increasingly asked about the evidentiary base for mechanical exposure reductions. Mixed messages can arise from the different disciplinary cultures of evidence, and these mixed messages make different sets of findings incommensurate. Interventions also operate at different levels within workplaces and result in different intensities of mechanical exposure reduction. Heterogeneity in reporting intervention processes and in measuring relevant outcomes makes the synthesis of research reports difficult. As a means of synthesizing the current understanding of measures, this paper describes a set of intervention and observation nodes for which relevant workplace indicators prior to, during, and after mechanical exposure reduction can provide useful information. On the basis of this path of impacts from exposure reduction, an approach to the evaluation of multilevel ergonomic interventions is described that can assist fellow researchers in producing evidence relevant to the challenges faced by workplace parties and policy makers. 相似文献

When two brief sounds arrive at a listener's ears nearly simultaneously from different directions, localization of the sounds is described by "the precedence effect." At inter-stimulus delays (ISDs) <5 ms, listeners typically report hearing not two sounds but a single fused sound. The reported location of the fused image depends on the ISD. At ISDs of 1-4 ms, listeners point near the leading source (localization dominance). As the ISD is decreased from 0.8 to 0 ms, the fused image shifts toward a location midway between the two sources (summing localization). When an inter-stimulus level difference (ISLD) is imposed, judgements shift toward the more intense source. Spatial hearing, including the precedence effect, is thought to depend on the auditory cortex. Therefore we tested the hypothesis that the activity of cortical neurons signals the perceived location of fused pairs of sounds. We recorded the unit responses of cortical neurons in areas A1 and A2 of anesthetized cats. Single broadband clicks were presented from various frontal locations. Paired clicks were presented with various ISDs and ISLDs from two loudspeakers located 50 degrees to the left and right of midline. Units typically responded to single clicks or paired clicks with a single burst of spikes. Artificial neural networks were trained to recognize the spike patterns elicited by single clicks from various locations. The trained networks were then used to identify the locations signaled by unit responses to paired clicks. At ISDs of 1-4 ms, unit responses typically signaled locations near that of the leading source in agreement with localization dominance. Nonetheless the responses generally exhibited a substantial undershoot; this finding, too, accorded with psychophysical measurements. As the ISD was decreased from ~0.4 to 0 ms, network estimates typically shifted from the leading location toward the midline in agreement with summing localization. Furthermore a superposed ISLD shifted network estimates toward the more intense source, reaching an asymptote at an ISLD of 15-20 dB. To allow quantitative comparison of our physiological findings to psychophysical results, we performed human psychophysical experiments and made acoustical measurements from the ears of cats and humans. After accounting for the difference in head size between cats and humans, the responses of cortical units usually agreed with the responses of human listeners, although a sizable minority of units defied psychophysical expectations. 相似文献

This article outlines a practical three-file structure to help guide these investigators track and document their data through processing and analyses. 目的:严重的黏膜损伤是诱发造血干细胞移植后出现并发症的一常见原因,已有证据显示谷氨酰胺能降低接受化疗患儿黏膜炎的发生率。观察谷氨酰胺对异基因外周造血干细胞移植患者并发症及恢复的影响。方法:选择于2002-03/2006-11在河南省血液病研究所接受同胞异基因外周造血干细胞移植的48例血液系统肿瘤患者。所有患者及其家属对治疗和实验均知情同意,并经医院伦理委员会批准。所有患者移植前均处于完全缓解状态,营养中等或良好,心、肝、肾功能正常,将48例患者随机分为标准化全胃肠外营养液组(标准组,n=13)和加用谷氨酰胺的全胃肠外营养液组(谷氨酰胺组,n=35)。待患者中性粒细胞升至1.0×109L-1,且无任何感染指征,进行异基因外周造血干细胞移植。造血干细胞输注后第1天开始给予全胃肠外营养与胃肠外营养联合谷氨酰胺双肽,至中性粒细胞≥1.0×109L-1,且无消化道症状时停用。观察两组患者中性粒细胞恢复时间、出层流室时间以及关于感染、急性移植物抗宿主病等情况有无差异。结果:48例患者均进入结果分析。两组患者营养物质的摄入基本相同,谷氨酰胺组有6例发生黏膜炎,标准组有11例,差异显著(P<0.05);谷氨酰胺组有1例发生严重腹泻,标准组有5例,差异显著(P<0.05);谷氨酰胺组有3例发生临床感染,标准组有7例,差异显著(P<0.05);标准组中性粒细胞≥0.5×109L-1的持续时间短于谷氨酰胺组(P>0.05);谷氨酰胺组抗生素治疗时间及无菌病房居住时间较标准组短(P<0.05);两组急性移植物抗宿主病发生率差异无统计学意义(P>0.05)。结论:添加谷氨酰胺的全胃肠外营养可改善异基因造血干细胞移植患者的营养状态,减少感染及肠损害,减少急性移植物抗宿主病的发生,有利于异基因移植患者恢复。 相似文献

Traditional serum markers used in the diagnosis of prostate cancer lack sensitivity and specificity. Prostatic fluid is in direct contact with the prostate epithelium and, thus, has been investigated as a better source for potentially useful markers. Since prostatic fluid contents can enter the urine directly through the urethra, without prerequisite entry into blood, proteins present in significant quantities in prostatic fluid represent candidate markers for entry into the urine, particularly in diseases affecting the prostate epithelium, such as adenocarcinoma. High concentrations of transferrin in prostatic fluid led us to examine urine transferrin levels, using an immunoturbidimetric technique. Urine transferrin was significantly increased in 18 out of 22 patients with prostate cancer in comparison to age-matched controls. Since there was no evidence of increased transferrin excretion, we suggest that prostatic fluid is the source of transferrinuria. 相似文献
