In this work, fibrin was used as a substrate to graft 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) by free radical polymerization using potassium persulfate and sodium metabisulfite as redox initiators. The extent of grafting the synthetic polymer on the biopolymer was studied under various experimental conditions, and the optimum factors for affording maximum grafting were standardized. The graft, fib-g-p[HEMA], was characterized by Fourier transform infrared, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction studies. The graft exhibited a higher shelf life than native fibrin. The biocompatibility of the graft has been tested by in vivo studies and the results, in terms of collagen formation and wound size, proved its suitability for wound healing.  相似文献

A small phallus causes great concern regarding genital adequacy. A concealed penis, although of normal size, appears small either because it is buried in prepubic tissues, enclosed in scrotal tissue penis palmatus (PP), or trapped due to phimosis or a scar following circumcision or trauma. From July 1978 to January 2001 we operated upon 92 boys with concealed penises; 49 had buried penises (BP), while PP of varying degrees was noted in 14. Of 29 patients with a trapped penis, phimosis was noted in 9, post-circumcision cicatrix (PCC) in 17, radical circumcision in 2, and posttraumatic scarring in 1. The BP was corrected at 2-3 years of age by incising the inner prepuce circumferentially, degloving the penis to the penopubic junction, dividing dysgenetic bands, and suturing the dermis of the penopubic skin to Buck's fascia with nonabsorbable sutures. Patients with PP required displacement of the scrotum in addition to correction of the BP. Phimosis was treated by circumcision. Patients with a PCC were recircumcised carefully, preserving normal skin, but Z-plasties and Byars flaps were often required for skin coverage. After radical circumcision and trauma, vascularized flaps were raised to cover the defect. Satisfactory results were obtained in all cases although 2 patients with BP required a second operation. The operation required to correct a concealed penis has to be tailored to its etiology.  相似文献

Epifluorescence microscopy is used to determine phase diagrams for lipid monolayers containing binary mixtures of cholesterol or dihydrocholesterol and dimyristoylphosphatidylserine, as well as ternary mixtures that also contain ganglioside G(M1). The phase diagrams are unusual in that they show multiple critical points: two upper miscibility critical points and one lower miscibility critical point. These critical points all are associated with the formation of condensed complexes between these lipids and cholesterol (or dihydrocholesterol). The miscibility critical pressures depend on subphase pH and ionic strength. Changes in critical pressures due to changes in subphase composition are closely related to changes in membrane electrostatic pressure and surface ionization.  相似文献

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a form of non-pharmacological treatment for pain. Involvement of descending inhibitory systems is implicated in TENS-induced analgesia. In the present study, the roles of spinal 5-HT and alpha(2)-adrenoceptors in TENS analgesia were investigated in rats. Hyperalgesia was induced by inflaming the knee joint with 3% kaolin-carrageenan mixture and assessed by measuring paw withdrawal latency (PWL) to heat before and 4 h after injection. The (1). alpha(2)-adrenergic antagonist yohimbine (30 microg), (2). 5-HT antagonist methysergide (5-HT(1). and 5-HT(2). 30 microg), one of the 5-HT receptor subtype antagonists, (3). NAN-190 (5-HT(1A), 15 microg), (4). ketanserin (5-HT(2A), 30 microg), (5). MDL-72222 (5-HT(3), 12 microg), or (6). vehicle was administered intrathecally prior to TENS treatment. Low (4 Hz) or high (100 Hz) frequency TENS at sensory intensity was then applied to the inflamed knee for 20 min and PWL was determined. Selectivity of the antagonists used was confirmed using respective agonists administered intrathecally. Yohimbine had no effect on the antihyperalgesia produced by low or high frequency TENS. Methysergide and MDL-72222 prevented the antihyperalgesia produced by low, but not high, frequency TENS. Ketanserin attenuated the antihyperalgesic effects of low frequency TENS whereas NAN-190 had no effect. The results from the present study show that spinal 5-HT receptors mediate low, but not high, frequency TENS-induced antihyperalgesia through activation of 5-HT(2A) and 5-HT(3) receptors in rats. Furthermore, spinal noradrenergic receptors are not involved in either low or high frequency TENS antihyperalgesia.  相似文献

Cyclosporin is a potent immunosuppressive agent that has become the first line therapy in organ transplantation. Its efficacy has led to its use in a variety of immune-mediated glomerular diseases. A selection of controlled and uncontrolled trials has studied the effects of cyclosporin in patients with minimal change disease (MCD), focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS), membranous nephropathy (MN), IgA nephropathy, membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN) and lupus nephritis. We review the recent literature and suggest recommendations for using cyclosporin in these diseases, based on this evidence and our experience.  相似文献

Ocular manifestations that occur directly or indirectly as result of a pathologic process that involves other parts of the body, in a pediatric population, will be discussed here. While a myriad number of systemic conditions have ocular manifestations, its importance cannot be undermined because it has implications for both diagnosis and treatment. Often, the eye findings can give a clue to the systemic diagnosis and at other times, not managing the eye manifestations can lead to irreversible blindness although the systemic condition was treated well. So, it is important for all clinicians dealing with pediatric population to be aware of ocular manifestations of the common systemic conditions. The authors discuss the ocular manifestations of the following systemic conditions: Genetic and chromosomal anomalies, phakomatoses, metabolic disorders, infectious diseases, craniofacial anomalies, muscular disorders, inflammatory disorders and miscellaneous.  相似文献
