Guinea pigs received 5 daily injections of Freund’s complete adjuvant and the changes in the lung were investigated by light microscope and electron microscope. In the 20th week of experiment, fibrotic changes were found around the granulomata close to the surface of the lung. In addition the fraction of glycosaminoglycans was isolated from the lung and analyzed quantitatively. As a result, a decrease in quantity of hyaluronic acid and an increase in quantity of dermatan sulfate were observed.  相似文献

AIMS: We investigated the relationship between interleukin (IL)-6 and coagulation, i.e. whether changes in the plasma IL-6 are associated with those in coagulation markers (D dimer and fibrinogen) after glycaemic control with sulphonylurea or insulin in poorly controlled patients with Type 2 diabetes. METHODS: We studied 42 patients with Type 2 diabetes, including 19 subsequently treated with sulphonylurea, 23 treated with insulin and 48 control subjects. All patients were in poor glycaemic control and were hospitalized for 3 weeks. At the beginning and end of treatment, we measured plasma concentrations of IL-6, fibrinogen, and D dimer. RESULTS: Plasma concentrations of IL-6 and D dimer were significantly higher in diabetic patients than in controls (P<0.0001 for both). In all patients with diabetes, the plasma concentration of IL-6 decreased significantly (P<0.001) after treatment. Changes in the plasma IL-6 during hospitalization were positively correlated with those in plasma D dimer and fibrinogen (r=0.664, P<0.0001; r=0.472, P=0.0042, respectively). Treatment with sulphonylurea or insulin caused a similar fall in the plasma IL-6 concentration with a concomitant decrease in the BMI and an equal improvement in glycaemia. CONCLUSIONS: In poorly controlled patients with Type 2 diabetes, plasma IL-6 concentrations were reduced significantly even by short-term metabolic control. As changes in the plasma concentrations of D dimer are related to plasma IL-6, plasma IL-6 may reflect a pro-coagulant as well as an inflammatory state in patients with Type 2 diabetes.  相似文献

AIM:To evaluate significant risk factors for incomplete colonoscopy at a Japanese academic hospital.METHODS:A total of 11812 consecutive Japanese people were identified who underwent a colonoscopy at an academic hospital.A multiple logistic regression model was used to evaluate retrospectively the significant risk factors for incomplete colonoscopy.RESULTS:The cecal intubation rate was 95.0%.By univariate analysis,age,female sex,poor bowel cleansing,and a history of abdominal or pelvic surgery were significant risk factors for incomplete colonoscopy(P<0.001).Moreover,age-and sex-adjusted analysis showed that significant risk factors for incomplete colonoscopy were female sex(OR=1.38,95%CI:1.17-1.64,P=0.0002),age≥60 years old(OR=1.44,95%CI:1.22-1.71,P<0.0001),a history of prior abdominal or pelvic surgery(OR=1.55,95%CI:1.28-1.86,P<0.0001),poor bowel cleansing(OR=4.64,95%CI:3.69-5.84,P<0.0001),and inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)(OR=1.48,95%CI:1.13-1.95,P=0.0048).In Japanese men,by age-adjusted analysis,IBD(OR=1.69,95%CI:1.18-2.43,P=0.005)was an independent risk factor for incomplete colonoscopy.CONCLUSION:Several characteristics in the Japanese population were identified that could predict technical difficulty with colonoscopy.  相似文献

Background The Japanese Red Cross (JRC) conducted a prospective study to evaluate the frequency of transfusion‐transmitted HBV, HCV and HIV infections to assess the risk of transfusion of blood components routinely supplied to hospitals. Study Design and Methods Post‐transfusion specimens from patients at eight medical institutes were examined for evidence of infection with HBV (2139 cases), HCV (2091) and HIV (2040) using individual nucleic acid amplification testing (NAT). If these specimens were reactive, pre‐transfusion specimens were also examined for the virus concerned by individual NAT. In the event that the pre‐transfusion specimen was non‐reactive, then all repository specimens from implicated donors were tested for the viruses by individual donation NAT. In addition, a further study was carried out to evaluate the risk of transfusion of components from donors with low anti‐HBc titres or high anti‐HBc with high anti‐HBs titres. Results Transfusion‐transmitted HCV and HIV infections were not observed. One case of post‐transfusion HBV infection was identified (rate, 0·0004675; 95% CI for the risk of transmission, 1 in 451–41 841). The background rates of HBV, HCV and HIV infections in patients prior to transfusion were 3·4% (72/2139), 7·2% (150/2091) and 0% (0/2040), respectively. Sixty‐four anti‐HBc‐ and/or anti‐HBs‐reactive blood components were transfused to 52 patients non‐reactive for anti‐HBc or anti‐HBs before and after transfusion (rate, 0; 95% CI for the risk of transmission, <1 in 22). Conclusion This study demonstrated that the current criteria employed by JRC have a low risk, but the background rates of HBV and HCV infections in Japanese patients are significant.  相似文献

目的:研究并探讨Baerveldt青光眼植入术(BGI)的不同植入部位对眼压(IOP)的影响。方法:对日本Toho大学Sakura医疗中心接受BGI治疗的新生血管性青光眼的病例进行回顾性分析。所有患者分为两组:颞上植入组(16例患者18眼,其中男性13例,女性3例;平均年龄62.9±14.4岁)和鼻下植入组(15例患者17眼,其中男性11例,女性4例;平均年龄56.9±10.7岁)。术后12mo随访复查。比较两组术后12mo与术前相比的眼压降低率。结果:颞上植入组:术前平均IOP为31.1±10.0 mmHg,术后平均IOP为14.4±4.5 mmHg;鼻下植入组:术前平均IOP为34.9±9.7 mmHg,术后平均IOP为15.9±3.7 mmHg。颞上植入组IOP降低率为(50.0±19.0)%,鼻下植入组降低率为(51.2±16.3)%。两组间无显著统计学差异(t-test,P=0.590)。结论:经睫状体平坦部行颞上或鼻下BGI的短期临床疗效无差异。  相似文献

AIM: To investigate and discover whether different insertion areas for Baerveldt glaucoma implant (BGI) surgery produce different outcomes in terms of the reduction of intraocular pressure (IOP). METHODS: This retrospective study involved the review of cases of patients admitted at Toho University Sakura Medical Center, who underwent BGI surgery via the pars plana route for the treatment of neovascular glaucoma. The patients were divided into two groups: the superotemporal insertion group [18 eyes in 16 subjects (13 males, 3 females; mean age 62.9±14.4y)] and the inferonasal insertion group [17 eyes in 15 subjects (11 males, 4 females; mean age 56.9±10.7y)]. The patients were followed up and re-evaluated at 12mo. The IOP reduction rate 12mo after surgery relative to preoperative IOP was compared between the two groups. RESULTS: The mean preoperative IOP was 31.1±10.0 mm Hg and postoperative IOP was 14.4±4.5 mm Hg in the superotemporal group, whereas for the inferonasal group, the mean preoperative IOP was 34.9±9.7 mm Hg and postoperative IOP was 15.9±3.7 mm Hg. The IOP reduction rate of the superotemporal group was 50.0%±19.0% and that of the inferonasal group was 51.2%±16.3%. There was no significant correlation between the two groups (Student’s t-test, P=0.590). CONCLUSION: There was no difference in the short-term clinical outcomes between superotemporal and inferonasal BGI performed via the pars plana route.  相似文献

We have conducted animal toxicity tests of chemicals for a chemical safety program implemented by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan. Here we conducted a combined repeated-dose and reproductive/developmental toxicity screening test of benzene, 1,1′-oxybis-, tetrapropylene derivs. (BOTD). BOTD was administered to 9-week-old Crl:CD(SD) male and female rats by gavage at 0, 40, 200, or 1000?mg/kg/day. Males were treated for 42 days including mating period. Females were treated for 42–53 days through the premating, mating, pregnancy, and until Day 4 of lactation periods. Increases in prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time values were observed only in males at 200 and 1000?mg/kg/day. Hypertrophy of centrilobular hepatocytes was observed with increased liver weight in both sexes at 200 and 1000?mg/kg/day, but there was no histologic evidence of hepatotoxicity. Diffuse hypertrophy of follicular cells in thyroid glands was observed in females at 200?mg/kg/day and in both sexes at 1000?mg/kg/day, with an increased blood cholesterol level in females at 1000?mg/kg/day. The conception index was decreased for females at 1000?mg/kg/day; and no abnormalities were detected in the reproductive indices of implantation, delivery, or pups’ condition, although a slight increase in the pups’ body weight was noted at birth. Our data indicate a no-observed-adverse-effect level of 40?mg/kg/day for repeated-dose toxicity on the basis of the prolongation of blood coagulating time, and of 200?mg/kg/day for reproductive/developmental toxicity on the basis of the decreased conception index.  相似文献
