Coinfection with HBV and HCV may lead to serious consequences. The present study was done to find out the prevalence of coinfection in patients with chronic liver disease. From patients with hepatitis and chronic liver disease 1673 samples were received and analysed for HBsAg by ELISA. 1342 samples were analysed for anti HCV by third generation ELISA. 493 samples positive for HBsAg were also analysed for Anti HCV to see the prevalence of coinfection. 15(3.0%) were found positive for both HBsAg and anti HCV. Out of 15 patients with coinfection 4 (26.6%) had HCC. Prevalence of HCC in patients with coinfection was higher than either infection alone i.e. HBV-9.1% and HCV-16.5%. 相似文献

An impairment can result in disability which can result in handicap. In Canada, disabilities have been based on 17 activities
of daily living (ADL), nine of which may be due to massive obesity. Severe disability (SD) is inability to perform three or
more of these ADL. During 1985, all patients with SD who underwent weight loss surgery were surveyed. Of 120 morbidly obese
patients, 44 fulfilled the SD criteria. Effect of weight loss was observed over 5 years in 42 SD patients (initial mean body
mass index 47.8, final 27.8), two being lost to follow-up. Disability became moderate (unable to do one or two of the ADL)
in three, mild (difficult but able to perform) in 17, and disappeared in 22 patients. Two who regained lost weight redeveloped

IntroductionMany children with gastric feeding intolerance require postpyloric tube feeding via a gastrojejunal (GJ) tube. Placement or positioning of these tubes is typically a procedure with a low dose of radiation. Although the risk of developing cancer from radiation exposure owing to computed tomography scans is well-documented in children, the risk of cumulative radiation exposure owing to frequent GJ tube replacement often goes unnoticed in the clinical decision-making process. We sought to define the frequency and cost of GJ tube replacement, quantify the radiation doses associated with the initial placement and replacements, and assess the number of conversions to surgical jejunostomies.MethodsAll pediatric patients who underwent GJ tube placement or replacement by Interventional Radiology (IR), surgery, and gastroenterology between 2010 and 2018 at a single center were reviewed. We evaluated the total cost of the initial placement and replacement of each GJ tube, the total number of replacements, and the cumulative radiation dose (mGy).ResultsWe identified 203 patients who underwent GJ tube placement and/or replacement, of which 150 had radiation data available. Patients underwent a median of five GJ tube replacement procedures, and there was a wide range in the number of replacements per patient, from zero to 88. Patients were exposed to a median cumulative dose of 6.0 mGy (IQR: 2.2, 22.6). Nine percent of patients with available radiation data were exposed to more than 50 mGy, solely from GJ tube replacements. The median cost per replacement was $1170. The sum of the cost of the replacements for dislodged GJs translated to more than $1.4 million during the study period.ConclusionsOverall, the average dose per GJ replacement was 3.50 mGy among all patients with available data. Nine percent of patients (14/150) were exposed to greater than 50 mGy cumulative radiation solely from GJ replacements. Patients who receive more than 50 mGy of cumulative radiation dose, who undergo seven GJ tube replacements in one year, or two consecutive GJ tube replacement procedures with radiation doses exceeding 10 mGy (per replacement) should be considered for a surgical jejunostomy.Level of evidenceIVType of studyTreatment study. 相似文献

BackgroundBreast cancer (BC) is one of the leading causes of death among women around the world. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a newly discovered group of non‐coding RNAs that their roles are being investigated in BC and other cancer types. In this study, we evaluated the association of hsa_circ_0005986 and hsa_circ_000839 in tumor and adjacent normal tissues of BC patients with their clinicopathological characteristics.Materials and methodsTotal RNA was extracted from tumors and adjacent non‐tumor tissues by the Trizol isolation reagent, and cDNA was synthesized using First Strand cDNA Synthesis Kit (Thermo Scientific). The expression level of hsa_circ_0005986 and hsa_circ_000839 was quantified using RT‐qPCR. Online in silico tools were used for identifying potentially important competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks of these two circRNAs.ResultsThe expression level of hsa_circ_0005986 and hsa_circ_000839 was lower in the tumor as compared to adjacent tissues. The expression level of hsa_circ_0005986 in the patients who had used hair dye in the last 5 years was significantly lower. Moreover, a statistically significant negative correlation between body mass index (BMI) and hsa_circ_000839 expression was observed. In silico analysis of the ceRNA network of these circRNAs revealed mRNAs and miRNAs with crucial roles in BC.ConclusionDownregulation of hsa_circ_000839 and hsa_circ_0005986 in BC tumors suggests a tumor‐suppressive role for these circRNAs in BC, meriting the need for more experimentations to delineate the exact mechanism of their involvement in BC pathogenesis. 相似文献
