Heterosexual women trust mating-relevant advice received from gay men more than that received from heterosexual women. This trust is predicated on women’s perception that gay men lack ulterior sexual motives and romantically pursue other gay men. However, this trust may not hold in all cultures. For example, in both Samoa and the Istmo Zapotec of Southern Mexico, women take part in mate competition against feminine same-sex attracted males—referred to as fa’afafine and muxe, respectively—who regularly engage in sexual activity with masculine men. The present studies sought to replicate and extend research on women’s trust in males who are same-sex attracted. Experiments were conducted in Canada, Samoa, and the Istmo Zapotec, with women randomly assigned to consider the likelihood of various mate-poaching behaviors performed by either a rival woman or a same-sex attracted male. In Canada, women were more trusting of cisgender gay men than other women. Similarly, Samoan women were more trusting of fa’afafine than other women. In the Istmo Zapotec, women were equally distrustful of women and feminine muxe gunaa, whereas more masculine muxe nguiiu were rated as more trustworthy than women and muxe gunaa. These results illustrate that women’s trust in same-sex attracted males varies both between and within cultural contexts, perhaps impacted by the relative femininity of the male in question.
AimsTo validate a translated and culturally adapted version of the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale for use in Spanish population, and to examine the psychometric properties of this scale in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Spain.DesignThis cross-sectional study was conducted in a single university hospital in Spain. Patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus at least 1 year before inclusion, being treated with anti-diabetic medication were included.InterventionWe used the Spanish version of the scale to measure treatment adherence.Principal measurementsthree level categorical scale is broken down into low adherence (score of <6), medium adherence (score of 6 to <8) and high adherence (score of 8). To validate the questionnaire, we measured internal consistency through Cronbach's α, confirmed construct validity through an exploratory principal component analysis and assessed test–retest reliability.Results232 patients met the inclusion criteria. The Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.40 (95% CI 0.28–0.52). The exploratory principal component analysis showed three components. The intraclass correlation coefficient was 0.718 (95% CI 0.564–0.823).Conclusionsthe Spanish version of the Morisky Medication Adherence scale showed low internal consistency, the exploratory factor analysis identified three dimensions, and the test–retest reliability was acceptable, therefore, psychometric properties of MMAS-8 are not suitable for measuring medication adherence in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients from Spain. 相似文献
ObjectiveTo compare the basic airway and the advanced airway with the supraglottic device I-Gel®, by means of capnography during intermediate CPR.DesignRandomized experimental pilot study by groups.SettingOut-hospital care basic life support units on the Island of Mallorca.ParticipantsAdults attended after cardiorespiratory arrest of non-traumatic origin.InterventionsAdvanced airway management during instrumental CPR with I-Gel® or basic CPR with bag-valve-mask, under capnographic monitoring.Main measurementsCapnometric levels obtained according to the device used, number of insertions of the I-Gel®, cases without achieving correct insertion/ventilation by branches, achievement of ROSC in CPR and number of hospital live admissions.ResultsTwenty-three cases were recruited for analysis. The insertion success rate of the I-Gel® was 92.9% at the first attempt, the mean capnometric values were 16.3 mmHg in the control group and 27.4% in the intervention group. 34.8% (n = 8) of the patients achieved spontaneous circulation recovery at some point and 26.1% (n = 6) were admitted to hospital alive. The survival analysis, taking into account the arrival of the unit and the first minute of ventilations recorded together with the variable hospital admission, suggests a certain trend of greater survival in the intervention branch (P = .066).ConclusionsThe use of I-Gel® raises an improvement in the ventilation of the patients in PCR, evidenced by the mean capnometric values in the intervention group, finding no correlation with CPR outcome variables. 相似文献
We estimated the impact of a comprehensive set of non-pharmeceutical interventions on the COVID-19 epidemic growth rate across the 37 member states of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development during the early phase of the COVID-19 pandemic and between October and December 2020. For this task, we conducted a data-driven, longitudinal analysis using a multilevel modelling approach with both maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimation. We found that during the early phase of the epidemic: implementing restrictions on gatherings of more than 100 people, between 11 and 100 people, and 10 people or less was associated with a respective average reduction of 2.58%, 2.78% and 2.81% in the daily growth rate in weekly confirmed cases; requiring closing for some sectors or for all but essential workplaces with an average reduction of 1.51% and 1.78%; requiring closing of some school levels or all school levels with an average reduction of 1.12% or 1.65%; recommending mask wearing with an average reduction of 0.45%, requiring mask wearing country-wide in specific public spaces or in specific geographical areas within the country with an average reduction of 0.44%, requiring mask-wearing country-wide in all public places or all public places where social distancing is not possible with an average reduction of 0.96%; and number of tests per thousand population with an average reduction of 0.02% per unit increase. Between October and December 2020 work closing requirements and testing policy were significant predictors of the epidemic growth rate. These findings provide evidence to support policy decision-making regarding which NPIs to implement to control the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Coalescence of the cerebral ventricles with formation of a single forebrain ventricle is described in an unusual case of agenesis of the corpus callosum with dehiscent fornices and severe hydrocephalus. The cerebral hemispheres were fully cleaved. The detached fornices were widely separated from the thalami. The membrana tectoria was retroverted over the midbrain and cerebellum, where it joined the fornices and merged with a curved membranous ependymal dome which, at a great distance, circumvented the thalami as it extended toward the anterior commissure. Other anomalies included arhinencephaly, multiple subependymal heterotopias, and Dandy-Walker malformation. Similar malformations have been described as interhemispheric cysts, as (holo)prosencephaly, or as midline telencephalic dysgenesis. The basic features of prosencephaly and agenesis of the corpus callosum are reviewed and compared to the present case. 相似文献
A 6-month protocol of oral pulse calcitriol was used in nine uraemic children (2–14 years old) on dialysis who presented with renal osteodystrophy. Calcitriol was administered twice a week, 4 g per dose for patients over 30 kg and 3g for patients less than 30 kg. Plasma levels of parathyroid hormone, calcium, phosphorus and alkaline phosphatase were carefully controlled during the study. Parathyroid hormone levels decreased by 68% and 56% by the 2nd and 6th months of treatment in seven patients, while they remained unchanged in two patients with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and massive proteinuria. Eight hypercalcaemic episodes from 77 determinations were observed, all of them recovered after 1 week of vitamin D withdrawal. We conclude that oral calcitriol pulse therapy is a good alternative for renal osteodystrophy in uraemic children. Careful monitoring of plasma parathyroid hormone and calcium is needed during follow-up when using this approach in paediatric patients. 相似文献
Purpose: To investigate possible associations between genetic markers and Primary Open-Angle Glaucoma (POAG). Methods: A number of genetic markers were typed in 84 unrelated patients with POAG and compared with a random sample of healthy individuals. The markers were Transferrin, Group Specific Component, G1m (1), G1m (2) and G3m (5) Allotypes, Adenylate Kinase, Adenosin Deaminase, Glyoxalase I and Acid Phosphatase and PCR-based markers HLA-DQA1 and D1S80. Results: No significant differences were found except the strong association between the group of POAG patients and Acid Phosphatase ACP*C allele (2 = 32.86; p < 0.0001). Conclusions: Since Acid Phosphatase gene is localized to chromosome 2p23, this result could be a first comprehensive step in the localization of POAG genes. 相似文献
The neuroactive peptide endothelin-1 has receptors distributed abundantly among subdivisions and nuclei of the visuovestibular and oculomotor systems. In previous work, we and others described the convulsive manifestations resulting from central injection of this neuropeptide, including nystagmus, oculoclonus, exophthalmos, tonic hindlimb extension, and a generalized repetitive motor disturbance called barrel-rolling. We applied the quantitative, autoradiographic [14C]deoxy-glucose method to examine the hypothesis that visuovestibular and oculomotor structures would become metabolically stimulated when endothelin was introduced into the brain via the ventricular system in conscious rats. Since previous work had demonstrated that hypermetabolic responses to endothelin in other neural systems were inhibited by an antagonist of neuronal calcium L-type channels, nimodipine, we further tested whether the increased function of vestibulooculomotor nuclei whose metabolic activity was sensitive to endothelin could be altered following nimodipine pretreatment via the ventricle. A single unilateral injection of endothelin (9 pmol in 3 l saline) into a lateral ventricle provoked significantly increased rates of glucose metabolism in 22 of 39 individual anatomical structures of the visuovestibular and oculomotor systems. Among those affected were the superficial stratum of the caudal superior colliculus (+25%), the optic tract bilaterally (+ 35 to 43%), the oculomotor cranial nerve nuclei (III, IV, VI; range of +21 to 47%), and the medial terminal nucleus of the accessory optic tract which harbors dense fields of endothelin binding sites (bilateral increase of +70 to 96%). Several other nuclei involved in the proprioceptive and visuovestibular disturbance caused by endothelin displayed increased metabolic activity, including the cuneate, gracile, sensory trigeminal, and prepositus hypoglossal nuclei, the vestibular subnuclear system, and the cerebellar flocculus. Identification of hypermetabolic responsivity to endothelin in these structures provides further information on the anatomical substrates mediating the behavioral phenomenology of endothelin-induced motor convulsions which involve the paroxysmal participation of the extraocular muscles and motor control systems producing barrel-rolling convulsions. Nimodipine pretreatment inhibited both the convulsive activity and the cerebral hypermetabolic responses to intraventricular endothelin. The results indicate that the neural systems sensitive to intraventricular endothelin become functionally active via a calcium-mediated process that may involve the neuropeptide as an intrinsic signaling molecule. 相似文献
Summary An 8-month-old girl had an ependymoma in the clivus, 2x6 cm in size, connected with the fourth ventricle by a cord of tissue 0.5 cm thick. There were no indications to make us suspect the origin of the tumour in the fourth ventricle, or that it was a case of ependymoma. 相似文献
