The “in vivo” effect of Inmunoferon (AM3) on the production of interferon (IFN) and natural killer (NK) activity in young and old mice was studied. Although AM3 is not an IFN inducer by itself, enhancements in the serum IFN levels were produced when drug was associated to Newcastle disease virus or bacterial lipopo-lysaccharides as IFN inducers. This effect appeared to be dependent on the time lapsed between the inducer agent and drug. In addition, a significant stimulating effect on NK cell activity was also produced by AM3 treatments. This effect could be a consequence of a marked IFN induction and/or a modifying effect in prostaglandin synthesis. 相似文献

The activity from 55 septohippocampal neuron pairs was examined in rats anesthetized with urethane. In addition to the statistical characterization of the firing patterns of the recorded units, the functional interactions between pairs of neurons and between neurons and hippocampal theta (theta) waves were investigated with cross-correlation techniques. Pairs were classified according to the rhythmic or non-rhythmic discharge pattern of their neurons. (a) theta-Pairs were those in which both the medial septal (MS) and hippocampal (HPC) units were rhythmic (type 1 units). (b) Pairs with a rhythmic and a theta-related non-rhythmic unit (type 2 unit) were called mixed pairs. (c) Pairs composed of type 2 units were called type 2 pairs. theta-Pairs showed periodic cross-correlations and frequently fired with a phase difference which could change in different pairs. Mixed pairs also showed periodic cross-correlations although one of the units was non-rhythmic. Type 2 pairs showed non-periodic positive cross-correlations. Our data provide new information regarding the temporal relationship between MS and HPC rhythmic activities supporting the role of the MS in providing the afferent timing for the generation of theta-rhythm in the HPC. 相似文献

The effects of bilateral electrolytic lesions of hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus on thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH)-immunoreactive fibers of the nucleus of the solitary tract were studied by both immunocytochemistry and radioimmunoassay. Contrasting with a near disappearance of TRH immunoreactivity in the median eminence, both morphological and biochemical approaches demonstrate that such hypothalamic lesions induced significant increase of TRH immunoreactivity in the nucleus of solitary tract. These results confirm that TRH fibers of the nucleus of the solitary tract do not originate in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN). They further indicate that these TRH neurons projecting to the nucleus of the solitary tract are strongly influenced by neurons located within the PVN area. 相似文献

The interlocking intramedullary nail has greatly expanded the indications for closed intramedullary nailing of the femur. We describe a complication caused by the presence of a calcified lesion located at the proximal metaphyseal-diaphyseal junction of the femur. This lesion could not be penetrated by hand reamers. We used a long 3.5-mm drill bit to place a hole in the infarct, which then allowed passage of the hand reamer. The operation then proceeded in the standard fashion without complications. 相似文献

PCR-based hybridization methods have been used to show that some women with normal cytology are carriers of HPV DNA of the types strongly related to cervical cancer. How these women should be managed remains unclear. This chapter selectively reviews reports which have estimated type-specific HPV prevalence in relation to the presence or absence of morphological signs of HPV infection. Overall, these reports indicate that among women who were identified as carriers of HPV DNA (by PCR-based methods) and who also had a normal cytological smear, the HPV type detected in the majority of instances was a high-risk viral type for cervical cancer (HPV types 16/18 = 44.7%; HPV types 31/33/35 = 8.1%; other and unknown types = 37.9%). This suggests that screening programmes which include PCR-based HPV detection could reduce the false negative rates currently reported by screening programmes based on cytology alone. 相似文献

We performed proton magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging of the temporal lobes between, during, and soon after nonconvulsive seizures in 20 patients with documented temporal lobe epilepsy, 5 patients with primary generalized epilepsy, and 2 patients with secondary generalized epilepsy. Our objective was to determine whether there were metabolic changes observable by magnetic resonance spectroscopic imaging during seizures and whether these changes were specific for focal or generalized nonconvulsive seizures. We found a significant increase in lactate to creatine plus phosphocreatine (lactate/creatine) values, reflecting an imbalance in energy supply and demand or an adaptation in response to ictal neuronal discharges, during and soon after complex partial seizures, but not during or soon after absence seizures associated with generalized epilepsy. In patients with temporal lobe epilepsy, the N-acetylaspartate resonance relative to creatine plus phosphocreatine was low in one or both temporal lobes, indicating neuronal loss or damage. This was not observed in patients with primary generalized epilepsy. The regions with abnormal lactate/creatine and N-acetylaspartate/creatine values corresponded to the epileptogenic focus as defined by clinical-electroencephalographic investigation. There was no change in the N-acetylaspartate/creatine values in the temporal lobes between the interictal, ictal, or postictal states. We conclude that (1) partial seizures are associated with abnormally high lactate levels, but absence seizures are not, and (2) no short-term changes of N-acetylaspartate occur during or soon after complex partial seizures or absence seizures. These findings may be related to the lack of postictal confusion in patients with absence seizures, as well as with the more benign course of primary generalized epilepsy with nonconvulsive attacks. 相似文献
