Clinical observation on treatment of 60 cases of osteoarthritis of knee joint by electroacupuncture

Purpose To observe therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture Neixiyan (Ex-LE 4) and Dubi (ST 35) in treating osteoarthritis of knee joint.Method All the 120 cases were randomly divided into electroacupuncture and control groups, 60 cases in each group, and they were given electroacupuncture and Ritalin slowreleased tablet respectively, and pain, mobility and swelling degree of knee joint were observed before and after treatments.Results In treatment group, the average score increased by 18, while in control group, it increased by 12.33 (P<0.05) after treatment.Conclusion Therapeutic effect of electroacupuncture Neixiyan (Ex-LE 4) and Dubi (ST 35) in treating osteoarthritis of knee joint was better than that of administration of Ritalin slow-released tablet. A longitudinal investigation of the concordance between individuals with traumatic brain injury and family or friend ratings on the Katz adjustment scale

Changes in the level of agreement (concordance) between self and family or friend reporting on the Katz Adjustment Scale (KAS) from 6 to 12 months postinjury were assessed in 55 individuals with traumatic brain injury (IwTBI). Although the concordance between self and family/friend reports significantly increased over the course of recovery, possibly reflecting improvements in awareness, the concordance showed limited relationship to measures of injury severity and neuropsychological functioning. Concordance did not significantly relate to clinicians' ratings of inaccurate insight and self-appraisal on the awareness item from the Neurobehavioral Rating Scale (NBRS). Clinicians' ratings of awareness demonstrated only limited relationship to measures of injury severity and neuropsychological functioning, as well. Although similar results in the literature have been interpreted as demonstrating that awareness, defined as concordance, is possibly a unique construct separate from injury severity and neuropsychological functioning, an alternative hypothesis is presented concerning other, noninjury factors that may affect the level of agreement in problem reporting between IwTBI and family/friend informants.     

Relations Between Coercive Strategies and MMPI-2 Scale Elevations Among Women Survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse

The relationship between coercion strategies used by perpetrators of childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and elevations of CSA survivors on the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2) was investigated. Participants were 151 women survivors of CSA in outpatient treatment at a university-based community mental health center. Scores on the MMPI-2 clinical scales and the Keane posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) scale were examined. Main effects were found for promised or received rewards on several clinical scales and the PTSD scale of the MMPI-2, independent of the presence of force. Specifically, the presence of such rewards was associated with significantly higher levels of symptomatology on Paranoia (Pa), Psychasthenia (Pt), Schizophrenia (Sc), and PTSD (Pk). There were no main or interaction effects noted for the presence of actual or threatened force on any of the scales.
