AbstractIntroduction: Curriculum mapping shows concordances and differences between the intended and the taught curriculum. To our knowledge, no previous studies describe the effects that this mapping has on the curriculum. The aim of the present study is to map the content of a lecture series in surgery to the National Catalogue of Learning Objectives in Surgery and analyze the effects this mapping has on the content of the following lecture series.Methods: All lecturers in the lecture series were directly observed by a minimum of two reviewers and learning objectives and the level of competence were documented. After the lecture series, the results were visualized within the catalog of learning objectives and were sent to the lecturers. In the following lecture series, learning objectives were documented correspondingly.Results: In the first lecture series, 47% of the learning objectives were taught. After the mapping, the number of learning objectives that were taught increased to 59% (p?<?0.001). The increase was found in all surgical disciplines and in all levels of competences without any changes in the average duration of the lectures.Conclusions: The presented method for mapping a curriculum effectively increased the number of taught learning objectives without requiring longer lecture durations. 相似文献

SUMMARY: The authors describe a 69 item sexual knowledge questionnaire that covers the areas: physiology, pregnancy, the sex act, masturbation, contraception, types of sexuality, and venereal disease. There is also a ‘Belief in Myths’ scale. Mean scores for delinquent boys and young mentally handicapped adults are given, with the latter having lower scores. All areas correlate with total score. The handicapped group showed increased sexual knowledge when re-tested after a human relations course. A control group, tested after the same interval, showed only random changes. The cloning of novel G protein-coupled receptors and the search for their natural ligands, a process called reverse pharmacology, is an excellent opportunity to discover novel hormones and neurotransmitters. Based on a degenerate primer approach we have cloned a G protein-coupled receptor whose mRNA expression profile indicates highest expression in the dorsal root ganglia, specifically in the subset of small neurons, suggesting a role in nociception. In addition, moderate expression was found in lung, hypothalamus, peripheral blood leukocytes, and ovaries. Guided by a receptor-activation bioassay, we identified adenine as the endogenous ligand, which activated the receptor potently and with high structural stringency. Therefore, we propose to name this receptor as the adenine receptor. Hormonal functions have already been demonstrated for adenine derivatives like 6-benzylaminopurine in plants and 1-methyladenine in lower animals. Here, we demonstrate that adenine functions as a signaling molecule in mammals. This finding adds a third family besides P1 and P2 receptors to the class of purinergic receptors. 相似文献

Lesions of the articular surfaces of the knee have been managed by various techniques over the last 50 years. Surgical management has involved: excising the damaged area, refashioning the underlying bone to produce a fibrous response, and introducing allograft, autograft and synthetic materials to encourage a repair matrix. In human temporal lobe epilepsy, a loss of hilar neurons followed by the sprouting of recurrent mossy fiber collaterals and
the reinnervation of free synaptic sites on granule cell dendrites are discussed as possible mechanisms underlying hippocampal
hyperexcitability. Dentate granule cells have been shown to upregulate brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) as well as
TrkB, the high-affinity receptor for BDNF, in response to limbic seizures. This raised the possibility that BDNF is an important
factor in hippocampal mossy fiber sprouting. Here we have used slice cultures of hippocampus, in which mossy fibers sprout
and form a supragranular plexus in response to granule cell deafferentation, and have compared cultures from early postnatal
BDNF-deficient mice and wild-type mice. We demonstrate that there is sprouting of supragranular mossy fibers in cultured slices
from both BDNF knock-out and wild-type mice. We conclude that BDNF is not an essential factor for mossy fiber sprouting. However,
our data do not exclude a role for BDNF in mossy fiber sprouting in wild-type mice, as compensatory mechanisms might have
become effective in the mutant.
