Using a constant-volume infant whole-body plethysmograph containing a heated rebreathing bag, we have been able to measure airway resistance (Raw) throughout the respiratory cycle using a computer-based technique. Data from the plethysmograph transducers are sampled at 60 Hz for the calculations and Raw is calculated at each point sampled during the breath, with appropriate corrections for absolute lung volume. It was found that in most cases Raw varied less with respect to tidal volume than to tidal flow. Various patterns of Raw change in relation to tidal volume were found. These included an elevated but relatively constant resistance, a progressively rising expiratory resistance, and in 3 infants with laryngomalacia, a progressively rising inspiratory resistance. It was also found that the dynamic performance of the rebreathing bag was such that considerable errors would occur if apparatus resistance was assumed to be constant and so the actual apparatus resistance at each point was subtracted from the total resistance to give Raw. In conclusion, Raw is not constant throughout the respiratory cycle in infants and the pattern of change conveys additional information. 相似文献

Blood oxygenation level-dependent (BOLD) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is widely used to measure human brain function and relies on the assumption that hemodynamic changes mirror the underlying neuronal activity. However, an often reported saturation of the BOLD response at high movement rates has led to the notion of a mismatch in neurovascular coupling. We combined BOLD fMRI at 7T and intracranial electrocorticography (ECoG) to assess the relationship between BOLD and neuronal population activity in human sensorimotor cortex using a motor task with increasing movement rates. Though linear models failed to predict BOLD responses from the task, the measured BOLD and ECoG responses from the same tissue were in good agreement. Electrocorticography explained almost 80% of the mismatch between measured- and model-predicted BOLD responses, indicating that in human sensorimotor cortex, a large portion of the BOLD nonlinearity with respect to behavior (movement rate) is well predicted by electrophysiology. The results further suggest that other reported examples of BOLD mismatch may be related to neuronal processes, rather than to neurovascular uncoupling. 相似文献

Optimal management of complex autoimmune diseases requires a multidisciplinary medical team including dentists to care for lesions of the oral cavity. In this review, we discuss the presentation, prevalence, diagnosis, and treatment of oral manifestations in chronic graft‐versus‐host disease (cGVHD), which is a major late complication in patients treated by allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. We assess current general knowledge of systemic and oral cGVHD and present general treatment recommendations based on literature review and our clinical experience. Additionally, we review areas where the understanding of oral cGVHD could be improved by further research and address tools with which to accomplish the long‐term goal of providing better health and quality of life to patients with cGVHD. 相似文献

Background
A parasitological survey of Schistosoma haematobium and S. intercalatum infection among primary schoolchildren in capital area of Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe (DRSTP) was undertaken.Methods
Subjects with positive infection were confirmed by the detection of S. haematobium ova in the urine or S. intercalatum ova in the stool by using centrifugation concentration or merthiolate-iodine-formalin concentration method. Totally, 252 urine and stool samples, respectively, were obtained from apparently healthy schoolchildren, of which 121 from boys (9.8 ± 1.4 yr) and 131 from girls (9.7 ± 1.3 yr).Results
None of participating schoolchildren were found having S. haematobium ova in the urinary specimen. While, among 4 primary schools studied, only schoolchildren from Saint Marçal were detected with S. intercalatum ova in the fecal specimen, making the overall prevalence of S. intercalatum infection among schoolchildren was 2.4% (6/252) and girls had insignificantly higher prevalence (3.1%, 4/131) than that (1.7%, 2/121) in boys (χ2 = 0.5, P = 0.5).Conclusion
Water control and sanitation as well as snails eliminated by molluscicides are urgently needed to reduce S. intercalatum infection in DRSTP inhabitants. 相似文献157.

One hundred temporomandibular joints (TMJs) in 62 symptomatic patients and two healthy volunteers were prospectively examined with T1-weighted spin-echo and fast low-angle shot (FLASH) gradient-echo sequences. FLASH sequences were performed during opening of the mouth and provided a pseudodynamic depiction of TMJ motion. In 49 joints, FLASH sequences provided information that potentially influenced the therapeutic approach to the patient. This information was not available from standard T1-weighted images. The additional information fell into four general categories: (a) determination of the exact time of disk recapture, (b) distinction of normal variants from pathologically displaced disks, (c) clarification of discrepancies found between clinical examination results and T1-weighted images, and (d) elimination of motion degradation of images. 相似文献
