Purpose:The aim of this study was to know proportion of white cataracts from among patients coming for cataract surgery, and to find causes delaying uptake of cataract surgery.Methods:A hospital-based, prospective study enrolled patients of senile cataract between April 2018 and March 2019. The proportion of white cataract was calculated and underlying causes delaying uptake of cataract surgery studied.Results:White cataracts constituted 13.5% of total 3634 senile cataract patients, with gender disparity disfavoring women. Bilateral white cataract was presentation in 39 (8%) patients and lens-related glaucoma in 24 (5%) patients. Pseudophakia in the other eye was single most common cause of delay.Conclusion:A large proportion of white cataracts suggest that penetration of cataract surgical services in not reaching to the most eligible individual. 相似文献

Background
Use of conjunctival autograft following excision of primary pterygium has reduced the recurrence rate. This study evaluates the efficiency of fibrin glue as compared to sutures in attaching the conjunctival autograft with reference to surgical time, post operative comfort and recurrence during follow up.Methods
60 patients with primary pterygium were included and divided into two groups. In the first group autograft was secured in place with help of 10-0 polyamide monofilament suture while in second group fibrin glue was used. Both the groups were compared in terms of operative time, post op comfort and recurrence.Results
The average surgical time taken was 50.93 ± 4.96 min with suture group and 34.43 ± 4.94 min with fibrin glue group. Pain and foreign body sensation was markedly less with fibrin glue group. At the end of final follow up at 6 months, 3 cases (10%) from suture group and 1 case (3.33%) from fibrin group had recurrence.Conclusion
Fibrin glue is effective and safe for attaching conjunctival autograft during pterygium surgery. Although more number of recurrences were observed in suture group as compared to fibrin glue group the difference was not statistically significant (p 0.612). 相似文献114.

Microneedles (MNs) provide a minimally invasive means to enhance skin permeability by creating micron-scale channels (micropores) that provide a drug delivery pathway. Adequate formation of the micropores is critical to the success of this unique drug delivery technique. The objective of the current work was to develop sensitive and reproducible impedance spectroscopy techniques to monitor micropore formation in animal models and human subjects. Hairless guinea pigs, a Yucatan miniature pig, and human volunteers were treated with 100 MN insertions per site following an overnight prehydration period. Repeated measurements were made pre- and post-MN treatment using dry and gel Ag/AgCl electrodes applied with light verses direct pressure to hold the electrode to the skin surface. Impedance measurements dropped significantly post-MN application at all sites (p < 0.05, irrespective of electrode type or gel application), confirming micropore formation. In the Yucatan pig and human subjects, gel electrodes with direct pressure yielded the lowest variability (demonstrated by lower %relative standard deviation), whereas dry electrodes with direct pressure were superior in the guinea pigs. These studies confirm that impedance measurements are suitable for use in both clinical and animal research environments to monitor the formation of new micropores that will allow for drug delivery through the impermeable skin layers. 相似文献

We hereby report a case of hemorrhagic macular infarction after intravitreal bevacizumab for chronic multifocal central serous chorioretinopathy (CSC). Issues regarding safety and adverse effects of bevacizumab are discussed. Head and neck cancers are highly prevalent in south-east Asia, primarily due to betel nut chewing. Arecoline, the primary alkaloid is highly carcinogenic; however its role in promoting tumorigenesis by disrupting junctional complexes and increasing risk of metastasis is not well delineated. Subsequently, the effects of low and high concentrations of arecoline on the stability of tight junctions and EMT induction were studied. A microarray analysis confirmed involvement of a MAPK component, JunD, in regulating tight junction-associated genes, specifically ZO-1. Results established that although arecoline-induced phosphorylation of JunD downregulated expression of ZO-1, JunD itself was modulated by the lncRNA-NEAT1 in presence of arecoline. Increased NEAT1 in tissues of HNSCC patients significantly correlated with poor disease prognosis. Here we show that NEAT1-JunD complex interacted with ZO-1 promoter in the nuclear compartment, downregulated expression of ZO-1 and destabilized tight junction assembly. Consequently, silencing NEAT1 in arecoline-exposed cells not only downregulated the expression of JunD and stabilized expression of ZO-1, but also reduced expression of the EMT markers, Slug and Snail, indicating its direct regulatory role in arecoline-mediated TJ disruption and disease progression. 相似文献

Pruritus is a distressing condition associated with end-stage renal disease (ESRD), advanced chronic kidney disease (CKD), as well as maintenance dialysis and adversely affects the quality of life (QOL) of these patients. It has been reported to range from 20% to as high as 90%. The mechanism of CKD-associated pruritus (CKD-aP) has not been clearly identified, and many theories have been proposed to explain it. Many risk factors have been found to be associated with CKD-aP. The pruritus in CKD presents with diverse clinical features, and there are no set features to diagnose it.The patients with CKD-aP are mainly treated by nephrologists, primary care doctors, and dermatologists. Many treatments have been tried but nothing has been effective. The search of literature included peer-reviewed articles, including clinical trials and scientific reviews. The present study was designed to evaluate the combinatory effect of methotrexate (MTX) and epigallocatechin (EGCG) on the progression of adjuvant-induced arthritis in rats. Adjuvant arthritis (AA) was induced by a single intradermal injection of Freund's complete adjuvant. AA rats were treated with methotrexate (0.3 mg/kg) thrice a week, EGCG (100 mg/kg) daily, and combination of MTX and EGCG thrice a week for a period of 28 days. Paw swelling changes and histopathological and radiographic analysis was assessed to evaluate the antiarthritic effect. Lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzyme activities in joint tissue homogenate were performed to observe the modulation of antioxidant status along the expression of different pro-inflammatory cartilage cytokines like TNF-α and IL-6. MTX and EGCG combination potentiated both the antiarthritic (decrease of hind paw volume) and the antioxidant effect (SOD, GSH, and catalase) as well as suppression of lipid peroxidation. Combination therapy of MTX and EGCG significantly inhibited the development phase of arthritis, which is supported by histopathological, radiographical, and attenuation of overexpression of cartilage cytokines. EGCG act as potent antioxidant and immunomodulator, suggesting that combined administration of MTX along with EGCG suppressed the development phase of arthritic progression in rats. 相似文献
