BackgroundSocio-demographics and comorbidities are involved in determining the severity and fatality in patients with COVID-19 suggested by studies in various countries, but study in Bangladesh is insufficient.AimsWe designed the study to evaluate the association of sociodemographic and comorbidities with the prognosis of adverse health outcomes in patients with COVID-19 in Bangladesh.MethodsA multivariate retrospective cohort study was conducted on data from 966 RT-PCR positive patients from eight divisions during December 13, 2020, to February 13, 2021. Variables included sociodemographic, comorbidities, symptoms, Charlson comorbidity index (CCI) and access to health facilities. Major outcome was fatality. Secondary outcomes included hospitalization, duration of hospital stay, requirement of mechanical ventilation and severity.ResultsMale (65.8%, 636 of 966) was predominant and mean age was 39.8 ± 12.6 years. Fever (79%), dry cough (55%), and loss of test/smell (51%) were frequent and 74% patients had >3 symptoms. Fatality was recorded in 10.5% patients. Comorbidities were found in 44% patients. Hypertension (21.5%) diabetes (14.6%), and cardiovascular diseases (11.3%) were most prevalent. Age >60 years (OR: 4.83, 95% CI: 2.45–6.49), and CCI >3 (OR: 5.48, 95% CI: 3.95–7.24) were predictors of hospitalizations. CCI >4 (aOR: 3.41, 95% CI: 2.57–6.09) was predictor of severity. Age >60 years (aOR: 3.77, 95% CI: 1.07–6.34), >3 symptoms (aOR: 2.14, 95% CI: 0.97–4.91) and CCI >3 vs. CCI <3 (aOR: 5.23, 95% CI: 3.77–8.09) were independently associated with fatality.ConclusionsIncreased age, >3 symptoms, increasing comorbidities, higher CCI were associated with increased hospitalization, severity and fatality in patients with COVID-19.  相似文献

Polymer nanocomposites used in underground cables have been of great interest to researchers over the past 10 years. Their preparation and the dispersion of the nanoparticles through the polymer host matrix are the key factors leading to their enhanced dielectric properties. Their important dielectric properties are breakdown strength, permittivity, conductivity, dielectric loss, space charge accumulation, tracking, and erosion, and partial discharge. Literature of Steel Beams with a thin-walled trapezoidal Corrugated Web (SBCWs) shows that the capacity of SBCWs is affected by both the fatigue cracks initiated along the inclined folds (IFs) and the maximal additional stress located in the middle of the IFs. An experimental investigation on the behaviour of hybrid SBCWs under flexure is presented in this paper. This study focuses on the effect of the welding IF between the web and flanges (IFs welded or non-welded), the horizontal-fold length (200, 260, and 350 mm), and transversal flange stiffeners on the failure mechanism of the SBCW under three line load. Accordingly, six hybrid specimens were fabricated, instrumented, and tested (five SBCW specimens and one specimen with a flat web). The test setup was designed to generate shear and a moment in the testing zone via three-point bending. The results indicated that non-welded IFs specimens with or without flange stiffeners failed owing to web tearing after web and flange local buckling. The failure mode of the specimen with continuous welding between the web and flanges was local flange buckling. Finally, the paper presents a comparison between the experimental results and the European Code to predict the capacity of the flange towards local buckling. It was concluded that the non-welding the IFs affected the inelastic behaviour and the capacity of the SBCWs. In addition, the bending resistance equations presented by EN 1993-1-5 can safely predict the test results of the non-welded inclined fold and yield a high safe variation.  相似文献

The study evaluated the hepatoprotective activity of plant extracts of cinnamon and glycyrrhizin in distinct dosage ways to minimize the oxidative stress induced by carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) in BALB/cJ inbred albino mice. Fifteen albino mice were divided into five groups, each group containing three mice. Group A was referred as positive control while group B, C, D and E were injected intraperitoneally with 1 mL/kg body weight of CCl4 twice a week for 1 month. Group C and D were treated orally with isolated extracts of cinnamon @50 mg/kg and glycyrrhizin @50 mg/kg respectively on daily basis for 1 month. However, group E was treated orally with combination dose of cinnamon @50 mg/kg + glycyrrhizin @50 mg/kg body weight. The increase in the levels of alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP), triglyceride (TG), malondialdehyde (MDA) and glucose were recorded in CCl4 induced liver injury in mice while there is decrease in the levels of total protein (TP), reduced glutathione (GSH), Superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT) in CCL4 intoxicated mice. Isolated therapy of plant extracts of cinnamon and glycyrrhizin decreased the levels of ALT, AST, ALP, MDA, TG and glucose whereas increase in TP, GSH, SOD and CAT was observed in plant extracts treated mice. The best restoration of all the above said parameters near to control was observed in group of mice treated with combination dose of cinnamon and glycyrrhizin @50 mg/kg. Therefore, the present study declared the antioxidative, anti-inflammatory and hepatoprotective activity of standardized extracts of cinnamon and glycyrrhizin and their potent defensive property.
