Linear poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)‐block‐poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) and star‐like three‐arm PEG‐star‐(PNIPAM)2 copolymers having one PEG and two PNIPAM blocks are synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Single crystals of these block copolymers are grown from amyl acetate and toluene dilute solutions. To recognize PNIPAM and PEG thicknesses, small angle X‐ray scattering (SAXS) is applied. V‐type brushes behave differently from linear brushes because doubly grafted PNIPAM blocks from a common point onto PEG substrate exert a higher osmotic pressure, leading to a thinner crystal. In addition to three ordinary regimes, a fourth or extremely stretched regime is detected for V‐type PNIPAM brushes. Although in PEG5000‐star‐(PNIPAM)2 single crystals with overall PNIPAM molecular weight of 37 000 g/mol, each PNIPAM arm is shorter than PNIPAM grafts in linear PEG5000‐block‐PNIPAM26000 single crystals, their switching point from second to third regime is significantly lower (22 vs 33 °C). The V‐type configuration of PNIPAM brushes cause them to be entered into the extremely stretched or fourth regime, which has not been previously detected for coily brushes. The boundary between third and fourth regimes for PEG5000‐star‐(PNIPAM)2 single crystals is verified at 31.5 and 23.5 °C in amyl acetate and toluene, respectively. 相似文献

Renal lymphangiomatosis is an exceedingly rare disorder characterized by developmental malformation of the lymphatic system surrounding the kidneys. We report a case of bilateral renal lymphangiomatosis in a 21-year-old man who underwent abdominal sonographic examination that revealed numerous cystic areas of various sizes around both kidneys with extension along the renal hilum. Subsequent abdominal CT examination demonstrated bilateral, multilocular, fluid-filled cystic masses with thin walls in the perirenal and peripelvic region. MRI of the patient revealed bilaterally enlarged kidneys with multiple hyperintense lesions in both perirenal spaces and the peripelvic area on T2-weighted images. These cystic spaces appeared hypointense on T1-weighted images with no enhancement in postcontrast images. The diagnosis of renal lymphangiomatosis was made based on typical imaging findings. 相似文献

This article describes the histological and mucin histochemical properties of the small intestine of the Persian squirrel (Sciurus anomalus). This species is widely distributed in the Middle East and can be found as a companion animal. The histological studies revealed that the plicae circulares were not visible in the tunica mucosa. The maximum height and width of the villi were observed in the duodenum, which then decreased toward the ileum. The muscularis mucosa was scattered, whereas the tunica submucosa was composed of dense connective tissue. The lymphatic nodules were seen in the submucosa of the distal part of the jejunum and ileum, and Brunner’s glands were embedded in the initial portion of the duodenum. The tunica muscularis was significantly thicker in the ileum, and the circular muscle layer was thicker than the longitudinal muscle layer throughout the entire length of the small intestine. The mucin histochemistry, which was examined using the periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) and alcian blue (AB) (pH 1.0 and 2.5) and also PAS–AB (pH 2.5) and aldehyde fuchsin-AB (pH 2.5) techniques coupled with methylation and saponification reaction for some sections, showed that the small intestine mucous content included both carboxylated and sulfated acidic mucins with few neutral mucins. The results of this study contribute to the knowledge of the histological and histochemical characteristics of the gastrointestinal tracts of exotic mammals and provide data for comparison with other mammals. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Atrial undersensing occurs in a considerable number of patients with single-lead VDD pacing. This study tried to determine the role of implant side in maintenance of the VDD mode in patients with isolated atrioventricular (AV) block. METHODS: Eighty-two patients with isolated AV block (46 females; mean age, 58 +/- 17 years) received a single-lead VDD pacemaker (Medtronic Kappa, n = 70 and St. Jude Medical Affinity, n = 12). The patients were randomly assigned to one of two implantation groups (group I: right-sided VDD and group II: left-sided VDD). In each group, the P-wave amplitudes were determined at implantation, predischarge, 2-month, and 6-month follow-up. At each follow-up visit, stored event histograms of pacemaker were also retrieved. The atrial sensing measurements were compared between two groups. RESULTS: Implantation was easier from right side (1.7 +/- 1.0 vs 2.8 +/- 1.7 attempts, P = 0.001). Implant P-wave was higher in group I compared to group II (4.2 +/- 1.7 vs 2.7 +/- 1.0 mV, P < 0.0001). During follow-up, higher P-wave amplitudes were obtained in group I both at predischarge (2.6 +/- 1.3 vs 1.4 +/- 1.1 mV, P < 0.0001), 2-month (2.8 +/- 1.8 vs 1.3 +/- 1.0 mV, P < 0.0001), and 6-month (2.9 +/- 1.7 vs 1.3 +/- 0.9 mV, P < 0.0001) evaluations but remained stable throughout the 6 months in both groups. After implantation, VDD function was better maintained in group I than group II (100% vs 90%, P = 0.026). Incidence of atrial undersensing was lower in group I than group II (P = 0.026) in last follow-up visit. CONCLUSIONS: Implant side has a significant influence on atrial sensing performance in single-lead VDD pacing. Thus, right-side implantation should be the preferred approach for the implantation of VDD single-lead systems. 相似文献

The protective effect of methanolic extract of milk thistle seeds and silymarin against cisplatin-induced renal toxicity in male rats after a single intraperitoneal injection of 3 mg kg cisplatin were studied. Over 5 days, cisplatin-treated rats showed tubular necrosis and elevation in blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and serum creatinine (Scr). Pretreatment of animals with silymarin (50 mg kg) or extract (0.6 g kg) 2 h before cisplatin prevented the tubular damage. Rats treated with silymarin or extract 2 h after cisplatin had BUN and Scr significantly lower than those receiving cisplatin, but mild to moderate necrosis was observed. These results suggested that milk thistle may protect against cisplatin-induced renal toxicity and might serve as a novel combination agent with cisplatin to limit renal injury. 相似文献
