ObjectiveTo assess the feasibility of enrollment and collecting patient-reported outcome (PRO) data as part of routine clinical urologic care for bladder and prostate cancer patients and examine overall patterns and racial variations in PRO use and symptom reports over time.Subjects/Patients and MethodsWe recruited 76 patients (n = 29 Black and n = 47 White) with prostate or bladder cancer at a single, comprehensive cancer center. The majority of prostate cancer patients had intermediate risk (57%) disease and underwent either radiation or prostatectomy. Over half (58%) of bladder cancer patients had muscle invasive disease and underwent cystectomy.Patients were asked to complete PRO symptom surveys using their preferred mode [web- or phone-based interactive voice response (IVR)]. Symptom summary reports were shared with providers during visits. Surveys were completed at 3 time points and assessed urinary, sexual, gastrointestinal, anxiety/depression, and sleep symptoms. Feasibility of enrollment and survey completion were calculated, and linear mixed effects models estimated differences in outcomes by race and time.ResultsSixty three percent of study participants completed all PRO measures at all 3 time points. Black patients were more likely to select IVR as their survey mode (40% vs. 13%, P < 0.05), and less likely to complete all surveys (55% vs. 74%, P = 0.13). Patients using IVR were also less likely to complete all surveys (41% vs. 69%, P = 0.046).ConclusionsReported preferences for survey mode and completion rates differ by race, which may influence survey completion rates and highlight potential obstacles for equitable implementation of PROs into clinical care. 相似文献

A high glucose concentration has been found to lead to the glycosylation of amino groups of lysine residue in proteins. The addition of reducing agent not only prevents this reaction but also reverses it. On the other hand, flavonoids which found in plant sources have antioxidant properties. Since the glycosylation of protein is an oxidation reaction, therefore, antioxidants should be able to prevent this reaction. In this study, the best concentration and time to incubate glucose with hemoglobin was investigated. Then the glycosylation degree of hemoglobin in the presence of flavonoids and their absence was measured by means of a colorimetric method. Different concentration of flavonoids (Quercetin, Rutin, Kaempferol) were used. The preventing effect on hemoglobin glycosylation by the three concentrations; 0.5, 5, 10 micrograms/ml was estimated as follows: for Rutin; 11%, 27%, 42%, Quercetin; 3%, 37%, 52%, Kaempferol; 10%, 12%, 15% respectively. So, the in vivo effect should be investigated and then plants that containing flavonoids can be utilized to prevent or treat complication of diabetes. 相似文献

Constituents of the essential oil of Achillea wilhelmsii L. growing wild in Kerman-Iran were studied by TLC, GC, and GC/MS methods. The main components of the monoterpene fraction of the oil were camphor, borneol, linalool, 1,8-cineole, chrysanthenol acetate, and carvacrol. A growing number of studies indicate a broad range of neurological manifestations, including seizures, occur in patients with COVID‐19 infection. We report a 29‐year‐old female patient with status epilepticus and positive SARS‐CoV‐2 in the cerebrospinal fluid. This article describes the design, synthesis and characterization of a sensor suitable for practical measurement of ionized calcium in water samples and cancer cells. Calcium is an important ion in living organs and works as a messenger in several cellular functions. A lack of Ca ions interrupts the immune system and can lead to several diseases. A novel magnetic-polydopamine nanoparticle (PDNP)/rhodamine B (RhB)/folic acid (FA) nanoparticle was developed for the determination of calcium ions in MCF 7 cell lysates and water samples. Furthermore, the produced nanoparticle was employed for bioimaging of folate receptor (FR)-overexpressed cancer cells. This nanoprobe displayed a bright photoluminescence emission at 576 nm under an excitation wavelength of 420 nm. In the presence of calcium ions, the fluorescence emission of the MNPs-PDNPs/RhB/FA probe was proportionally decreased from 20 ng mL−1 to 100 ng mL−1 and 0.5 μg mL−1 to 20 μg mL−1 with a lower limit of quantification (LLOQ) of about 20 ng mL−1. The developed sensor showed a low-interference manner in the presence of possible coexistence interfering ions. In addition, this nanomaterial showed excellent biocompatibility with favorable differentiation ability to attach to the FR-positive cancer cells. ObjectiveCOVID-19 has recently emerged as a serious threat to global health. This study examined the laboratory investigations of patients with COVID-19, with an emphasis on liver enzymes.MethodsThis retrospective, single-center study was performed on patients with COVID-19 who were admitted to Imam Reza Hospital, Iran from March 2020 to February 2021. Laboratory tests included a complete blood cell count, white blood cell (WBC) count, neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte/monocyte ratio, and levels of aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and alkaline phosphatase. Patient survival was among the outcome measures investigated in association with laboratory findings.ResultsWe enrolled 77 patients with COVID-19 and 63 healthy controls. In comparison with the control group, patients with COVID-19 showed COVID-19 increased ALT, WBC, neutrophils, NLR, and PLR, and decreased platelet counts and lymphocytes.ConclusionAlthough elevated levels of AST, NLR, PLR, and LMR were found in patients with COVID-19, they were not linked to mortality. Given the presence of AST in other tissues, the influence of SARS-CoV-2 on the liver should be interpreted with caution. 相似文献

Developing “green” catalytic systems with desirable performance such as solubility, recyclability, and switchability is a great challenge. However, inspired by nature, the studies on synthesis and activity of artificial switchable metal catalysts and organocatalysts have become an intense, fervid, and challenging field of research. The peculiarity of these catalysts is that they can be generally triggered in the “on” or “off” states by several external stimuli such as light, heat, solvents, pH change, coordination events or ion influxes, redox processes, mechanical forces, or other changes in reaction conditions. A large number of review articles are available in these areas. However, most efforts are currently focused on the invention of new types of switchable catalysts with different forms of stimuli–response units incorporated within their architectures in order to achieve control over the catalytic activity and regio-, chemo- and stereocontrol of various chemical reactions. Thus, in this review, we begin with a brief introduction to switchable catalysts, followed by discussion of types of stimuli and the influence factors on their activities in the field of biomedical engineering, and catalysis as well as related catalytic mechanisms summarized and discussed. The emphasis is on the recent advances utilized in artificial switchable catalysis.Catalytic systems based on the use of stimuli–responsive materials can be switched from an “on” active state to an “off” inactive state. Background:Despite newer therapeutic approaches against glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the severely poor prognosis and treatment resistance are still disadvantages that slow down the patient’s recovery process. Consistent with the need to develop more effective and optimized therapies to control GBM cell growth, the effects of a new series of tetrahydrobenzo(g)imidazo[α-1,2]quinolone derivatives on GBM cell growth and the underlying mechanism is investigated in the current study. Methods:U-87MG cell line, glioblastoma multiforme and normal skin fibroblast cell line, AGO1522 were used to study the anticancer effects of 5 derivatives of tetrahydrobenzo(g)imidazo[α-1,2]quinolone and paclitaxel as a standard drug. The cytotoxic effect on cell growth was assessed using the MTT assay. Annexin V FITC staining and PI staining were applied to detect apoptosis and cell cycle distribution using flow cytometry. The extent of reactive oxygen species (ROS) formation was assessed using the fluorescent probe 7-dichlorofluorescin diacetate and caspase-3 activity using the colorimetric assay kit. Results:Among the 5 derivatives of tetrahydrobenzo(g)imidazo[α-1,2]quinolone, the 5c derivative (5-(6-bromo-2-chloroquinolin-3-yl)-9a-hydroxy-8,8-dimethyl-4-Nitro-2,3,5,5a,7,8,9,9a-octahydroimidazo[α-1,2]quinoline-6(1H)) showed the strongest cytotoxic effect on U-87MG cells in a time and Dose-dependent manner compared to the other derivatives and paclitaxel. The IC50 (11.91 M) of the 5c derivative induced apoptosis accompanied by a significant increase in sub-G1 and super-G2 phases of U-87MG cells. The increased level of cellular ROS and caspase 3 activity after treatment of U-87MG cells with 5c derivative was significant compared to untreated cells. Conclusion:Our data provide insights into the potent anticancer effects of the 5c-derivative of tetrahydrobenzo(g)imidazo[α-1,2]quinolone on GBM cells via the caspase-dependent apoptotic pathway, which may merit further attention.Key Words: Glioblastoma multiforme, imidazoquinoline, apoptosis, ROS, reactive oxygen species 相似文献
