Interleukin 6 (IL-6) levels have been shown to be increased in a number of autoimmune disorders and have recently been shown to be elevated in the serum of schizophrenic patients. Given the involvement of the CNS in schizophrenia, levels of interleukin-6 in the CSF are also of interest. Thus, we examined levels of both CSF and serum IL-6 concomitantly to determine if these levels were different from control values. In addition, we examined these measures in patients both on and off antipsychotic drugs to determine if any medication or exacerbation effects may account for the difference from controls. CSF IL-6 was measured by ELISA in 61 drug-free male schizophrenic (DSM-IIIR) patients and 25 well-screened healthy male control subjects. Serum IL-6 was measured in 43 of the 61 patients, and in 16 control subjects. Serum IL-6 was significantly higher in the schizophrenic patients compared to control subjects. CSF IL-6 was also higher in the patients, but the difference was not statistically significant. Paired data showed no medication or exacerbation effects on CSF IL-6, but plasma IL-6 significantly decreased in patients that experienced an exacerbation after medication withdrawal. The results indicate that IL-6 levels may be altered in schizophrenia. The relative decrease in exacerbated patients following haloperidol withdrawal may be indicative of a compensatory response of plasma IL-6 levels to relapse.  相似文献

HPLC separation conditions for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of indole alkaloids from CATHARANTHUS ROSEUS tissue cultures were discribed as well as sample preparation procedures with Extrelut and Bond Elut SCX cartridges, which allow a quicker and more effective sample clean up as the classical alkaline chloroform extraction method. Cell cultures of THUJA OCCIDENTIALIS L. were found to biosynthesize various mono- and diterpenes when grown on B5-medium. The identification of the constituents was achieved mainly by capillary GLC-MS using fused silica columns and E.I.-mass spectrometry. Monoterpenes of the menthane type were only isolated from the culture medium whereas diterpenes were found in the cell extracts. Thujaplicin derivatives, monoterpenes of an irregular type, were detected in the medium as well as in the cells. Major differences were found between the terpene composition of the cell culture extracts and those from THUJA leaves. The cell cultures accumulated some compounds which are presently unknown as constituents of THUJA plants. On the other hand, the cultures were evidently unable to synthesize the thujone type of monoterpenes.  相似文献

ORTHOSIPHON ARISTATUS (Orthosiphonis folium DAB 9) was studied with regard to its phenolic constituents. Twenty compounds were isolated and identified on the basis of their spectral characteristics. The compounds included nine lipophilic flavones, two flavonol glycosides, and nine caffeic acid derivatives. The presence of the recently reported methylripariochromene A could not be confirmed. All compounds identified were quantified by HPLC. The caffeic acid derivatives including the major compounds rosmarinic acid and 2,3-dicaffeoyltartaric acid (67% of total identified phenolics) predominated over the flavones (33%) in an aqueous MeOH extract. The predominance of the caffeic acid derivatives was even more pronounced in a hot water extract (94.5% of total identified phenolics) that was comparable to a herbal tea.  相似文献

This study investigates both cost-avoidance and improvement in the quality of care and patient outcome attributed to pharmacist intervention in four ambulatory care clinics. Four clinical pharmacists reported 199 interventions made in the pharmacotherapeutic management of 87 ambulatory clinic patients in 1 month. The majority of interventions were based on acceptable professional practices as ranked by peer reviewers. Positive impact of the interventions on patient outcome based on objective and subjective data was documented in 49% of the interventions. Forty-two percent of the interventions improved the process of care with no measurable impact on patient outcome. Cost avoidance was calculated according to interventions made at different steps of the drug use process. Net cost avoidance figures projected to 1 year amounted to $221,056.  相似文献

The alkaloid composition of cell suspension cultures and differentiated plants of LUPINUS POLYPHYLLUS was evaluated using quartz capillary gas-liquid chromatography, GLC-MS and FD-MS. Lupanine (97% of total alkaloids), sparteine, 13-angeloyloxylupanine and 13-tigloyloxylupanine were detected in alkaloid extracts of L. POLYPHYLLUS cell suspension cultures. Lupanine, 13-cis and 13-trans-cinnamoyloxylupanine were found in the spent cell culture medium. No significant difference was found in the alkaloid composition of photomixotrophic and heterotrophic cell strains although the alkaloid content was 5 to 10 times higher in photomixotrophic cell strains. In the respective plants we could identify 18 alkaloids which include the following esters of 13-hydroxylupanine: 13-tigloyloxylupanine, 13-angeloyloxylupanine, 13-cis-cinnamoyloxylupanine, 13-trans-cinnamoyloxylupanine, 13-benzoyloxylupanine, 13-(2-methylbutyryl)-oxylupanine; and 13-vanilloyloxylupanine.  相似文献
