The use of bowel ultrasonography (US) for the evaluation of gut diseases has increased in recent years and has been proven to provide a widely available, non-invasive and inexpensive method for the initial work-up and follow-up of different intestinal diseases, limited mostly by technical challenges posed by the patient's anatomy. The present review aims to provide an extensive overview of the main pathologic features at US examination of intestinal diseases other than inflammatory bowel disease, both acute (e.g., acute appendicitis, colonic diverticulitis, infectious diseases and ischemic conditions) and chronic (e.g., celiac disease, cystic fibrosis and other enterocolites). The identification of typical US features may help in the diagnostic process and guide the treatment approach. Therefore, the application of knowledge of the US appearance of gastrointestinal diseases is of relevance in enabling greater diagnostic performance and better patient management. 相似文献

Purpose
Transamniotic stem cell therapy (TRASCET) with select mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) has been shown to induce partial or complete skin coverage of spina bifida in rodents. Clinical translation of this emerging therapy hinges on its efficacy in larger animal models. We sought to study TRASCET in a model requiring intra-amniotic injections 60 times larger than those performed in the rat.Methods
Rabbit fetuses (n?=?65) with surgically created spina bifida were divided into three groups. One group (untreated) had no further manipulations. Two groups received volume-matched intra-amniotic injections of either saline or a concentrated suspension of amniotic fluid MSCs (afMSCs) at the time of operation. Infused afMSCs consisted of banked heterologous rabbit afMSCs with mesenchymal identity confirmed by flow cytometry, labeled with green fluorescent protein. Defect coverage at term was blindly categorized only if the presence of a distinctive neoskin was confirmed histologically. Statistical comparisons were by logistic regression and the likelihood ratio test.Results
Among survivors with spina bifida (n?=?19), there were statistically significant higher rates of defect coverage (all partial) in the afMSC group when compared with the saline and untreated groups (0–50%; p?=?0.022–0.036), with no difference between the saline and untreated groups (p?=?1.00). Donor afMSCs were identified locally, though sparsely and not in the neoskin.Conclusions
Concentrated intra-amniotic injection of amniotic mesenchymal stem cells can induce partial coverage of experimental spina bifida in a leporine model. Transamniotic stem cell therapy may become a feasible strategy in the prenatal management of spina bifida.Level of Evidence

The nitrone spin trap 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline N-oxide (DMPO) is commonly used to study free radicals. Due to its free radical trapping properties, DMPO is thought to reduce free radial-mediated oxidative damage and other related cellular responses. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of DMPO on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation, endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, and apoptosis in RAW 264.7 cells. The results showed that DMPO at 50 mM inhibited inducible nitric oxide synthase expression when added shortly after LPS treatment (≤3 h). Interestingly, DMPO increased anti-inflammatory heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) expression and reversed LPS-induced decrease in HO-1 expression. LPS could increase cellular ER stress as indicated by C/EBP homologous protein (CHOP) induction; DMPO reduced LPS effect on CHOP expression. Unexpectedly, DMPO had a synergistic effect with LPS on increased caspase-3 activity. Overall, DMPO harbors multiple modulating effects but may induce apoptosis in LPS-stressed cells when given at 50 mM, an effective dose for its anti-inflammatory activity in vitro. The production of chemicals from bio-based feedstocks is an emerging field of research in both industrial and academic communities. Here we present the synthesis of propylene glycol through catalytic hydrogenolysis of glycidol, obtained using a side-stream from the bio-based epichlorohydrin production plant, over Pd/C catalyst. In particular, we show the prominent effect of the acidic resin Amberlyst-15 in the selective and quantitative conversion of glycidol that permits to reach a TOF value of 162 h?1. Propylene glycol is obtained with high yields and selectivity (> 99%) in only 1 h under mild reaction conditions. The effect of solvent is also investigated giving interesting results on the reaction selectivity. The catalytic system (Pd/C + Amberlyst-15) shows a good recyclability also after seven reaction cycles reaching high performances in term of conversion and selectivity.
