Mutations in the influenza virus neuraminidase (NA) that cause reduced susceptibility to the NA inhibitor (NAI) oseltamivir may occur naturally or following antiviral treatment. Currently, detection uses either a traditional NA inhibition assay or gene sequencing to identify known markers associated with reduced inhibition by oseltamivir. Both methods are laborious and require trained personnel. The influenza antiviral resistance test (iART), a prototype system developed by Becton, Dickinson and Company for research use only, offers a rapid and simple method to identify such viruses. Concrete is the most widely used construction material. However, it cannot sustain the harsh environment and can easily deteriorate. It results in repair and reworks that amount to a considerable loss of money and time. The life span of concrete reduces if exposed to external attacks, for instance, sulfate attacks, alkali-silica reactions, corrosion, and drying shrinkage. These ubiquitous attacks cause a reduction in service life and raise the need for early repair and maintenance, resulting in higher life cycle costs and structural failures. To resolve these issues, the potential of styrene-butadiene-rubber (SBR) ultrafine powder as cement replacement polymeric admixture at 0%, 3%, 5%, 7%, and 10% have been evaluated. The effect of SBR-powder on concrete is investigated by conducting an alkali-silica reactivity test (ASR), rapid-chloride-permeability test (RCPT), drying shrinkage, and sulfate resistivity tests. Workability, compressive and flexural strength tests are also conducted. For ASR and drying shrinkage, mortar bar samples were cast, exposed to respective environments, and the percentage change in length was measured. For mechanical tests and RCPT, prisms, cylinders and cubes were cast and tested at 28 days. The SBR-powder modification reduces concrete’s permeability, drying shrinkage, and expansions due to ASR and sulfate attacks. SBR powder increased workability by 90%, compressive strength by 23%, and flexural strength by 9.4% in concrete when used at 10% cement replacement by weight. The SBR-powder (10%) modification reduced the RCPT value by up to one-third (67%), drying shrinkage by 53%, ASR by 57%, and sulfate reaction by 73%. Consequently, SBR powder usage can adequately improve the workability, mechanical properties, and durability of the concrete and lead to advanced sustainable concrete with low repair requirements. 相似文献

A material-tailored special concrete composite that uses a synthetic fiber to make the concrete ductile and imposes strain-hardening characteristics with eco-friendly ingredients is known as an “engineered geopolymer composite (EGC)”. Mix design of special concrete is always tedious, particularly without standards. Researchers used several artificial intelligence tools to analyze and design the special concrete. This paper attempts to design the material EGC through an artificial neural network with a cross-validation technique to achieve the desired compressive and tensile strength. A database was formulated with seven mix-design influencing factors collected from the literature. The five best artificial neural network (ANN) models were trained and analyzed. A gradient descent momentum and adaptive learning rate backpropagation (GDX)–based ANN was developed to cross-validate those five best models. Upon regression analysis, ANN [2:16:16:7] model performed best, with 74% accuracy, whereas ANN [2:16:25:7] performed best in cross-validation, with 80% accuracy. The best individual outputs were “tacked-together” from the best five ANN models and were also analyzed, achieving accuracy up to 88%. It is suggested that when these seven mix-design influencing factors are involved, then ANN [2:16:25:7] can be used to predict the mix which can be cross-verified with GDX-ANN [7:14:2] to ensure accuracy and, due to the few mix trials required, help design the SHGC with lower costs, less time, and fewer materials. 相似文献

The paper presents the results of experimental studies of the features of the operation of prestressed shells, taking into account the various structural parameters of the prestress. It is established that when the winding angle changes from perpendicular to the shell axis to 75° and 65°, the circumferential stresses decrease 1.4 times and 1.2 times, respectively, and the axial stresses increase five and three times, which are two and four times lower than the circumferential, from which it can be concluded that the reduction in the winding angle to the longitudinal the axis of the shell has a positive effect on the stress state of the structure. The study also found that with an increase in the diameter of the winding wire from 1 to 2 mm and a change in the winding angle, the same nature of the stress distribution is observed, but the values of the stress state parameter change, so the efficiency increases up to 25% due to an increase in the winding thickness, depending on the pitch, angle and thickness of the winding, which favorably affects the strength and the bearing capacity of the structure as a whole by increasing the value of the stress state parameter. Thus, the results of the analysis will allow us to use in more detail the possibility of controlling the stress–strain state of the prestressed shell by changing the design parameters, and the results obtained can be used in design or construction, as well as when increasing the strength characteristics of the structure, which allows us to create a high-tech design optimal for these operating conditions, which can positively complement the studies conducted earlier in this direction. 相似文献

The proper disposal of used rubber tires has emerged as a primary concern for the environment all over the globe. Millions of tires are thrown away, buried and discarded every year, posing a major environmental concern owing to their slow decomposition. As a result, it is advantageous to use recycled waste rubber aggregates as an additional building resource. Recycling crushed rubber would lead to a long-term solution to the problem of decreasing natural aggregate resources while conserving the environment. This study examines the impact strength variability and reliability of preplaced aggregate concrete containing crumped rubber and fibres. Ten different mixtures were prepared by replacing natural aggregate with crumped rubber (5, 10, 15 and 20%). The crumped rubber was pretreated by the water with sodium hydroxide dilution for 30 min before usage. Hooked-end steel fibres were used at a dosage of 1.5%. The compressive strength, impact strength, impact ductility index and failure pattern were examined and discussed. In addition, a statistical method called Weibull distribution is used to analyze the scattered experimental results. The results showed that when the crumb rubber content was raised, the retained first cracking and failure impact numbers increased. As a result of substituting crumb rubber for 20% of the coarse aggregate in plain and fibrous mixes, the percentage development in first crack and failure was between 33% and 76% and 75% to 129%, respectively. 相似文献

The hybrid type of pavement called semi-flexible or grouted macadam has gained popularity over the last few decades in various countries, as it provides significant advantages over both rigid and conventional flexible pavements. The semi-flexible pavement surface consists of an open-graded asphalt mixture with high percentage voids into which flowable cementitious slurry is allowed to penetrate due to gravitational effect. Several researchers have conducted laboratory, as well as field, experiments on evaluating the performance of semi-flexible layers using different compositions of cementitious grouts. The composition of grouts (i.e., water/cement ratio, superplasticizer, polymers, admixtures, and other supplementary materials) has a significant effect on the performance of grouts and semi-flexible mixtures. A comprehensive review of cementitious grouts and their effect on the performance of semi-flexible layers are presented and summarized in this review study. The effect of byproducts and other admixtures/additives on the mechanical properties of grouts are also discussed. Finally, recommendations on the composition of cementitious grouts have been suggested. 相似文献
