Photocatalysts based on zinc hydroxide and a solid solution of CdS and ZnS were prepared via the precipitation method and used for photocatalytic hydrogen production from aqueous solutions of inorganic (Na2S/Na2SO3) and organic (ethanol) sacrificial agents. The photocatalysts were tested in cyclic experiments for hydrogen evolution and studied using X-ray diffraction (XRD), UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques. Different transformations of the β-Zn(OH)2 co-catalyst were observed in the presence of inorganic and organic sacrificial agents; namely, ZnS was formed in Na2S/Na2SO3 solution, whereas the formation of ε-Zn(OH)2 was detected in solution with ethanol. The composite Zn(OH)2/Cd1−xZnxS photocatalysts have great potential in various photocatalysis processes (e.g., hydrogen production, CO2 reduction, and the oxidation of organic contaminants) under visible light.

The nature of the sacrificial agent affects the transformations of a Zn(OH)2 co-catalyst during photocatalytic hydrogen production.  相似文献

In this study, the in vivo hypoglycemic effect of a donut-shaped polyanion salt (NH4)14[Na@P5W30O110]·31H2O {NaP5W30} and its Ag-containing derivative K14[Ag@P5W30O110]·22H2O·6KCl {AgP5W30}, as well as their hepatotoxicity and nephrotoxicity, was evaluated. In the screening hypoglycemic study, Wistar albino rats with streptozotocin induced diabetes were treated intraperitoneally with three single doses (5, 10, and 20 mg per kg per b.w.) of both investigated polyoxotungstates. The blood glucose levels, measured before and after 2, 4 and 6 h polyoxotungstate application, showed that both studied compounds induced the most pronounced and time dependent glucose lowering effects at the doses of 20 mg kg−1. Thus, daily doses of 20 mg kg−1 were administered to Wistar albino rats orally for 14 days in further toxicity examinations. The serum glucose concentration and biochemical parameters of kidney and liver function, as well as a histopathological analysis of kidney and liver tissues were evaluated 14 days after the polyoxotungstate administration. Both investigated compounds did not induce statistically significant alterations of the serum glucose and uric acid concentrations, as well as some of the liver function markers (serum alanine and aspartate aminotransferases, and alkaline phosphatase activities). However, the significant decrease in serum total protein and albumin concentrations and the increase in biochemical parameters of renal function – serum urea (up to 63.1%) and creatinine concentrations (up to 23.3%) were observed for both polyoxotungstates. In addition, the detected biochemical changes were in accordance with kidney and liver histhopathological analysis. Accordingly, the hepatotoxic and nephrotoxic effects of these potential antidiabetic polyoxotungstates could be considered as mild.

A sol-gel technique was applied to prepare the two-component oxide system Cu-Mg-O, where MgO plays the role of oxide matrix, and CuO is an active chemical looping component. The prepared samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, low-temperature nitrogen adsorption, and X-ray diffraction analysis. The reduction behavior of the Cu-Mg-O system was examined in nine consecutive reduction/oxidation cycles. The presence of the MgO matrix was shown to affect the ability of CuO towards reduction and re-oxidation significantly. During the first reduction/oxidation cycle, the main characteristics of the oxide system (particle size, crystallization degree, etc.) undergo noticeable changes. Starting from the third cycle, the system exhibits a stable operation, providing the uptake of similar hydrogen amounts within the same temperature range. Based on the obtained results, the two-component Cu-Mg-O system can be considered as a prospective chemical looping agent.  相似文献

Ferro-piezoceramic materials (FPCM) with different degrees of ferrohardness were fabricated by double solid-phase synthesis followed by the sintering technique using hot pressing method. The X-ray studies carried out in a wide temperature range showed that with increasing temperature, each of the studied FPCM undergoes a series of phase transformations, accompanied by a change in the symmetry of the unit cell. In this case, near the phase transition to the nonpolar cubic phase, in each of the FPCM, the formation of a fuzzy symmetry region is observed, which is characterized by weak distortions and temperature–time instability of the crystal structure. The study of the piezoelectric modulus d33 in the quasi-static regime as a function of temperature made it possible to reveal the different nature of its behavior in materials of various degrees of ferrohardness. It was shown that the conservation of the state in ferrosoft materials above the Curie temperature is associated with the relaxation nature of the change in their properties, the existence of a region of fuzzy symmetry (noncubic phase) in them above the Curie temperature, and increased inertia of the system. The expediency of taking into account the presented results in the development of electromechanical converters based on FPCM of various degrees of ferrohardness, operated under temperature effects, including cyclic ones, was shown.  相似文献

The TREAT Consortium has carried out clinical studies on alcoholic hepatitis (AH) for over 4 years. We encountered problems with participant recruitment, retention, and eligibility for specific protocols. To improve our ability to carry out such trials, we reviewed recruitment screening logs, end of study logs, and surveyed study coordinators to learn the reasons for missing patients, why patients declined enrollment, and the number of patients eligible for treatment trials. Associations of the recruited subjects’ demographics with their adherence to follow‐up appointments were examined. Three hundred eight‐seven patients (AH and heavy drinking controls) were enrolled in the observational study, and 55 AH patients were recruited into treatment trials. About half of patients identified with AH could not be recruited; no specific reason could be determined for about two‐thirds of these. Among the patients who gave a reason for not participating, the most common reasons were feeling too sick to participate, desire to concentrate on abstinence, and lack of interest in research. Approximately a quarter of the AH patients met eligibility criteria for treatment trials for moderate or severe AH and we were able to recruit half to two‐thirds of those eligible. Approximately 35% of participants in the observational study returned for both 6‐ and 12‐month follow‐up visits. We did not identify biopsychosocial or demographic correlates of retention in the study. This analysis revealed that attempts at recruitment into trials for AH miss some subjects because of structural issues surrounding their hospital admission, and encounter a high rate of patient refusal to participate. Nonetheless, more than half of the patients who met the eligibility criteria for moderate or severe AH were entered into clinical trials. Retention rates for the observational study are relatively low. These findings need to be accounted for in clinical trial design and power analysis.  相似文献

This study suggests an intensive green roof as part of a sustainable and hazard-resistant conceptual design for the retrofitting of old buildings in Israel. The roof is suggested to be built with waste-based materials. A five-story reinforced concrete residential building was retrofitted with: Case 1: concrete wall strengthening (CWS)-conventional concrete + conventional green roof; Case 2: CWS-waste-included concrete + waste-based green roof; Case 3: seismic isolation columns (SIC)-conventional concrete + conventional green roof; and Case 4: SIC-waste-included concrete + waste-based green roof. Palekastro, Nuweiba, Tabas, and Erzincan ground motions were used for a structural dynamic time-history analysis of the retrofitted buildings. Life cycle assessments of cases 1–4 were performed using ReCiPe 2016 midpoint and endpoint evaluations. A two-stage analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to analyze the ReCiPe endpoint results. According to the seismic results, Case 3 and Case 4 were much more preferable to Case 1 and Case 2, whereas according to the environmental evaluations, Case 4 was the most preferable to the other cases.  相似文献

We present a patient with a 33‐year history of poikilodermatous mycosis fungoides (MF) who subsequently developed CD30‐positive large cell transformation. After 6 years of conventional MF treatment, side effects of therapy and/or concomitant diseases prevented the previously applied treatment modalities. The CD30‐directed antibody‐cytotoxic drug conjugate (brentuximab vedotin) was introduced and followed by quick and excellent therapeutic response.  相似文献
