Background:

There is paucity of information on the relationship of quality of life (QOL) in obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and dysthymic disorder (DD) with disability grade in India.

Aim:

To assess the relation of QOL with disability level in OCD and DD.

Materials and Methods:

This hospital based study was conducted in a medical institution in Davanagere, Karnataka, India. Data was collected by using Diagnostic and Statistical Manual IV Text Revision (DSM IV TR) criteria, WHO QOL BREF and IDEAS. Relationship between disability grade and QOL was assessed by independent sample t test.

Results:

Mild disabled OCD patients had a significantly better QOL in the Q1 domain i.e. perception on quality of life as compared to moderately disabled patients (P < 0.05), while in other domains of QOL, there was no statistically significant difference (P > 0.05). But, QOL score in physical domain showed significant difference across disability grades (56.00, SD = 6.89; 48.50, SD = 12.28) in DD, but not in other domains.

Conclusion:

Perception of QOL is better in those with mild disability in OCD, but in DD, physical domain of QOL score is more in mild disability compared to moderate disability.  相似文献

Two-pore (2-P) domain potassium channels are implicated in the control of the resting membrane potential, hormonal secretion, and the amplitude, frequency and duration of the action potential. These channels are strongly regulated by hormones and neurotransmitters. Little is known, however, about the mechanism underlying their regulation. Here we show that phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PIP2) gating underlies several aspects of 2-P channel regulation. Our results demonstrate that all four 2-P channels tested, TASK1, TASK3, TREK1 and TRAAK are activated by PIP2. We show that mechanical stimulation may promote PIP2 activation of TRAAK channels. For TREK1, TASK1 and TASK3 channels, PIP2 hydrolysis underlies inhibition by several agonists. The kinetics of inhibition by the PIP2 scavenger polylysine, and the inhibition by the phosphatidylinositol 4-kinase inhibitor wortmannin correlated with the level of agonist-induced inhibition. This finding suggests that the strength of channel PIP2 interactions determines the extent of PLC-induced inhibition. Finally, we show that PIP2 hydrolysis modulates voltage dependence of TREK1 channels and the unrelated voltage-dependent KCNQ1 channels. Our results suggest that PIP2 is a common gating molecule for K+ channel families despite their distinct structures and physiological properties.  相似文献

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is spreading at a rapid pace, and the World Health Organization declared it as pandemic on 11 March 2020. Mycoplasma pneumoniae is an "atypical" bacterial pathogen commonly known to cause respiratory illness in humans. The coinfection from SARS-CoV-2 and mycoplasma pneumonia is rarely reported in the literature to the best of our knowledge. We present a study in which 6 of 350 patients confirmed with COVID-19 were also diagnosed with M. pneumoniae infection. In this study, we described the clinical characteristics of patients with coinfection. Common symptoms at the onset of illness included fever (six [100%] patients); five (83.3%) patients had a cough, shortness of breath, and fatigue. The other symptoms were myalgia (66.6%), gastrointestinal symptoms (33.3%-50%), and altered mental status (16.7%). The laboratory parameters include lymphopenia, elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, C-reactive protein, lactate dehydrogenase, interleukin-6, serum ferritin, and D-dimer in all six (100%) patients. The chest X-ray at presentation showed bilateral infiltrates in all the patients (100%). We also described electrocardiogram findings, complications, and treatment during hospitalization in detail. One patient died during the hospital course.  相似文献

Localized in vivo (1) H NMR spectroscopy is playing an increasing role in preclinical studies, because of its ability to quantify the concentrations of up to 20 metabolites in rat brain. To assess the differences between often-used rat strains, the neurochemical profiles of Sprague-Dawley, Wistar and Fischer rats were determined at ultrashort TE at 16.4 T. To ascertain high-qualitative quantification, a first experiment examined the dependence of the measuring time on the quantification results and precision by precisely the number of averages between 16 and 320. It was shown that most metabolites can be quantified accurately within a short scan time, yielding Cramér-Rao lower bounds below 20% and stable concentrations for 16 metabolites with as few as 32 or 64 averages in the thalamus and hippocampus, respectively. Interstrain differences in metabolite concentrations were shown to be moderate, with taurine varying significantly between Sprague-Dawley and Wistar rats, and slightly more distinct differences from Fischer rats, including variations in glutamate and myo-inositol. The high spectral quality and quantification precision of all data again demonstrated the potential of in vivo (1)H NMR spectroscopy at ultrahigh field.  相似文献

Physiological time series: distinguishing fractal noises from motions   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
Many physiological signals appear fractal, in having self-similarity over a large range of their power spectral densities. They are analogous to one of two classes of discretely sampled pure fractal time signals, fractional Gaussian noise (fGn) or fractional Brownian motion (fBm). The fGn series are the successive differences between elements of a fBm series; they are stationary and are completely characterized by two parameters, sigma2, the variance, and H, the Hurst coefficient. Such efficient characterization of physiological signals is valuable since H defines the autocorrelation and the fractal dimension of the time series. Estimation of H from Fourier analysis is inaccurate, so more robust methods are needed. Dispersional analysis (Disp) is good for noise signals while bridge detrended scaled windowed variance analysis (bdSWV) is good for motion signals. Signals whose slopes of their power spectral densities lie near the border between fGn and fBm are difficult to classify. A new method using signal summation conversion (SSC), wherein an fGn is converted to an fBm or an fBm to a summed fBm and bdSWV then applied, greatly improves the classification and the reliability of H, the estimates of H, for the times series. Applying these methods to laser-Doppler blood cell perfusion signals obtained from the brain cortex of anesthetized rats gave H of 0.24+/-0.02 (SD, n=8) and defined the signal as a fractional Brownian motion. The implication is that the flow signal is the summation (motion) of a set of local velocities from neighboring vessels that are negatively correlated, as if induced by local resistance fluctuations.  相似文献

204 infants with birthweights between 751 and 2000 g and 26-35 weeks gestational age (100 treated and 104 control subjects) were enrolled in a prospective controlled trial of the effectiveness of D-penicillamine (DPA) in the prevention of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP). The two groups did not differ significantly in gestational age, birth weight, Apgar scores, the time of exposure to oxygen and in the incidence of PDA or in the number of exchange transfusions and RBTs. Of the treated infants 29, and of the control infants 34 died before the tenth week of life. These cases were not included in further analysis. Patients were subsequently examined and assessed by two ophthalmologists independently, who did not know which babies were receiving DPA. Six of the 70 surviving control infants and none of the 71 surviving treated infants had ROP stage II or graver. The results suggested that ROP may effectively be prevented with DPA in very low-birth-weight-infants, and that the drug has no serious adverse effects during the neonatal period.  相似文献

The lung represents an attractive target for delivering gene therapy to achieve local and potentially systemic delivery of gene products. The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of the AERx Pulmonary Delivery System for delivering nonviral gene therapy formulations to the lung. We found that "naked" DNA undergoes degradation following aerosolization through the AERx nozzle system. However, DNA formulated with a molar excess of cationic lipids (lipoplexes) showed no loss of integrity. In addition, the lipoplexes showed no significant change in particle size, zeta (zeta) potential, or degree of complexation following extrusion. The data suggest that complexation with cationic lipids had a protective effect on the formulation following extrusion. In addition, there was no significant change in the potency of the formulation as determined by a transfection study in A-549 cells in culture. We also found that DNA formulations prepared in lactose were aerosolized poorly. Significant improvements in aerosolization efficiency were seen when electrolytes such as NaCl were added to the formulation. In conclusion, the data suggest that delivery of lipoplexes using the AERx Pulmonary Delivery System may be a viable approach for pulmonary gene therapy.  相似文献
