Purpose We aimed to investigate the possible effect of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination on sperm quality by evaluating semen analyses of men prior to vaccination and 6–14 months after vaccination.MethodsThis was a retrospective cohort study, conducted in a university-affiliated in vitro fertilization center between October 2021 and March 2022, including men not previously infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus who received at least 2 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech (BNT162b2) SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. Semen analyses of samples given pre-vaccination and 6–14 months post-vaccination were analyzed for the parameters of volume, concentration, motility, morphology, and total motile count (TMC) and compared. These parameters were also compared separately for men who received a third (booster) dose and for men with pre-vaccination normal and abnormal sperm. Correlations between time from vaccination and post-vaccination sperm parameters were also assessed.ResultsFifty-eight men were included in the final analysis. Semen volume (2.9 ± 1.4 vs. 2.9 ± 1.6 ml), sperm concentration (42.9 ± 37.9 vs. 51.5 ± 46.2 million/ml), motility (42.5 ± 23.1 vs. 44.3 ± 23.4 percent), morphology (8.8 ± .16.6 vs. 6.6 ± 8.8 percent), and TMC (55.7 ± 57.9 vs. 71.1 ± 77.1 million) were comparable between the pre- and post-vaccination samples. This was true for the entire study cohort, for the subgroup of men who received a third dose and for the subgroups of men with a pre-vaccination normal and abnormal semen samples. No correlation was found between time from vaccination and post-vaccination sperm parameters.ConclusionsThe Pfizer-BioNTech (BNT162b2) SARS-CoV-2 vaccine does not impair any of the sperm parameters over a relatively long-time interval of 6 to 14 months from vaccination.Supplementary InformationThe online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1007/s10815-022-02621-x.  相似文献

We assessed the correlation between ST deviation in each of the six precordial leads and the presence of regional wall motion abnormalities (RWMA) as assessed by transthoracic echocardiography in 109 patients with first inferior acute myocardial infarction. ST depression in lead V1 and V2 was associated with higher incidence of RWMA of the mid-posterior segment (p < 0.02 for both leads). The specificity of ST segment depression in leads V1 and V2 for RWMA in mid-posterior segment was 87 and 57%, and the sensitivity 36 and 70%, respectively. Patients with ST depression in leads V2 or V3 had worse global RWMA score than patients without ST depression in these leads (p = 0.009 and p = 0.025, respectively). Patients with an ST elevation in lead V1, but not in leads V2 or V3, had a higher prevalence of right ventricular involvement (p < 0.0001). ST elevation in lead V5 was associated with more frequent involvement of the apical portion of the inferior wall (p < 0.02), with specificity of 88% and sensitivity of 33%. Global RWMA score was significantly worse for patients with ST elevation than for patients with isoelectric ST in lead V5 (p = 0.024). ST elevation in lead V6 was associated with RWMA in the mid-posterior segment (p < 0.006), with specificity of 91% and sensitivity of 33%, and worse global RWMA score (p = 0.022).  相似文献

The present study emphasizes the importance of cell surface expression and secretion of heparanase (endo-beta-D-glucuronidase) in tumor angiogenesis and metastasis. For this purpose, nonmetastatic Eb mouse lymphoma cells were transfected with the predominantly intracellular human heparanase or with a readily secreted chimeric construct composed of the human enzyme and the chicken heparanase signal peptide. Eb cells overexpressing the secreted heparanase invaded a reconstituted basement membrane to a much higher extent than cells overexpressing the intracellular enzyme. Cell invasion was inhibited in the presence of laminaran sulfate, a potent inhibitor of heparanase activity and experimental metastasis. The increased invasiveness in vitro was reflected in vivo by rapid and massive liver colonization and accelerated mortality. In fact, mice inoculated with cells expressing the secreted enzyme succumb because of liver metastasis and dysfunction, as early as 10 days after s.c. inoculation of the cells, when their tumor burden did not exceed 1% of body weight. Cell surface localization and secretion of heparanase markedly stimulated tumor angiogenesis, as demonstrated by a 4-6-fold increase in vessel density and functionality evaluated by MRI of tumors produced by cells expressing the secreted vs. the nonsecreted heparanase, consistent with actual counting of blood vessels. Altogether, our results indicate that the potent proangoigenic and prometastatic properties of heparanase are tightly regulated by its cellular localization and secretion. The increased potency of the secreted enzyme makes it a promising target for anticancer drug development.  相似文献

We correlated ST elevation in various leads on admission and regional dysfunction in 132 patient with first anterior acute myocardial infarction using echocardiography. ST elevation in leads I and a VL and II, III and aVF was not associated with a specific pattern of regional dysfunction. Basal anterior and septal regional dysfunction were seen more often in patients with ST elevation in V1 (49 vs. 25%, p = 0.006; 35 vs. 17%, p = 0.048, respectively). Patients with ST elevation in V2 had more regional dysfunction of the apical inferior region (84 vs. 53%; p = 0.01). ST elevation in V5 and V6 was not associated with more apical or lateral wall motion abnormalities. ST elevation in lead V1 in anterior myocardial infarction is associated with a high incidence of regional dysfunction of the basal anterior, anteroseptal and septal regions.  相似文献

The aim of this prospective study was to assess the correlation between different predischarge electrocardiographic patterns and left ventricular function, evaluated by physical examination and echocardiography, in patients with first Q wave anterior acute myocardial infarction. A positive correlation was found between the electrocardiographic pattern and wall motion score assessed by echocardiography, reflecting a gradual worsening in left ventricular function among the different patterns. Patients with an isoelectric ST segment and negative T waves had a 73% decrease in the risk of clinical heart failure compared to those who continued to have ST elevation. Thus, a predischarge electrocardiogram can be used as a simple, noninvasive method for the risk stratification of patients with acute myocardial infarction.  相似文献

BackgroundNon-caseating granulomas exist in a substantial portion of patients with Crohn's disease (CD). Several single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been identified as a having strong association with CD, including SNPs within the autophagy related 4 homolog A (ATG4A) gene and the neutrophil cytosolic factor 4 (NCF4) gene. We hypothesized a possible association between the presence of granulomas in CD patients and variants in the ATG4A and NCF4 genes.AimsTo investigate whether variants in the NCF4 and ATG4A genes are associated with granuloma formation in a cohort of Israeli patients with CD, exploring demographic and clinical characteristics that differ between granuloma positive and granuloma negative patients.Methods307 Israeli patients with CD were studied. Patients with CD who underwent biopsy or resection of the intestine were classified according to presence or absence of granulomas. Using PCR-RFLP we determined the allele frequency in SNP rs4821544 (NCF4 gene) and SNP rs807185 (ATG4A gene) for all patients.ResultsGranulomas were found in 85 out of 307 CD patients (27%). There were no significant differences between patients with or without granulomas in allele frequency in SNPs rs4821544 and rs807185. CD Patients with granuloma were younger at diagnosis than patients without granuloma (mean age 19 vs. 27, respectively, P < 0.0001) and were more likely to undergo surgery (55.3% vs. 34.8%, respectively, P = 0.002).ConclusionsNo association was found between SNPs rs4821544 and rs807185 and the presence of granulomas in CD patients. Granuloma positive patients were more likely to be younger and to undergo surgery.  相似文献

PURPOSE: To study central corneal endothelial cell density and morphology and corneal topography in transplanted corneas for keratoconus 10 to 17 years postoperatively. METHODS: Retrospective, noncomparative case series including all keratoconus patients who underwent penetrating keratoplasty by one surgeon, at the same center, between January 1986 and December 1994. Seventeen patients (22 eyes) met the criteria. Four patients (5 eyes) with unchanged visual acuity during the follow-up period did not agree to return for the last follow-up examination, 1 patient (1 eye) had graft failure, and 3 patients (4 eyes) were lost to follow-up. We reviewed the charts of 9 patients (12 eyes), and collected data including manifest refraction, best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), endothelial cell density, cell morphology, and corneal topography. RESULTS: The mean follow-up period for all eyes evaluated was 13.3 +/- 2.4 years (range 10-17 years). At the last follow-up, 91.7% of eyes achieved BCVA of 20/40 or better, and mean endothelial cell density was 695 +/- 113.6 cells/mm(2). Pleomorphism was detected in 5 eyes. Keratoconus pattern, by corneal topography, was not detected in any eye at the final examination. CONCLUSION: Endothelial cell count 10-17 years post-PKP for keratoconus is very low with pleomorphism and viable grafts, indicating continued endothelial instability.  相似文献

This study aimed to examine the ability of the Quick Neurological Screening Test QNST II) (Mutti et al., 1998) to discriminate between children with and without perceptual-motor deficits and to further clarify its psychometric characteristics. Ninety-four children aged six to seven years were tested on the QNST-II. Out of this pool of subjects, 63 children had perceptual-motor deficits and 31 were typical controls. The children with perceptual-motor deficits scored significantly lower than the control children on the total score and on each of the subtest' s scores of the QNST II. Inter-rater reliability indicated a high degree of correlation between both evaluators' total scores of the QNST II. In terms of the test' s sensitivity and specificity, QNST II scores correctly classified 97% of the children with perceptual-motor deficits and 84% of the children from the control group. The findings of this study support the capability of the QNST II to discriminate between children with perceptual-motor deficits and typical children; thereby suggesting its usefulness as a screening measure to identify children at risk for difficulties in school performance.  相似文献
