Case report Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) with calcification is rare. We presented a 13-year-old epileptic patient with FCD and calcification in the left frontal lobe. At age 24, the FCD lesion and the surrounding epileptogenic cortex and underlying subcortex were removed after chronic subdural electrode recording. Histological examination showed that the calcified lesion was not independent of the FCD lesion but located in the subcortical area of the FCD lesion. A neoplastic nature was ruled out for the lesion. Discussion The pathophysiological mechanism involved in the coexistence of FCD and calcification is discussed.  相似文献

We have reported that dibutyryl cAMP (dbcAMP), an activator of cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA), potentiated the effects of 1alpha,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3(1,25-(OH)2D3)-induced 24-hydroxylation activity in HL-60 cells by increasing 1,25-(OH)2D3 receptor (VDR). The present study demonstrated that 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA), a potent phorbol ester, also potentiated the effect of 1,25-(OH)2D3 on HL-60 cells and that TPA and dbcAMP acted in a synergistic manner to enhance the effect of 1,25-(OH)2D3. It is interesting that TPA induced 24-hydroxylation activity far more efficiently than dbcAMP, in addition to their effects in increasing VDR. TPA increased basal levels of c-fos mRNA to the maximum by 1 h after the treatment, whereas dbcAMP failed to affect c-fos gene expression. Together with the previous data indicating the presence of AP-1-like sequence in the promoter of 24-hydroxylase gene, it was suggested that TPA potentiated the effect of 1,25-(OH)2D3 through an activation of c-fos gene expression. This notion was further supported by the data showing that TPA and dbcAMP also acted in a synergistic manner to activate c-fos gene expression. Neither TPA nor dbcAMP affected c-jun early response gene in the HL-60 clone used in the present study. The present study suggested that the activation of early c-fos response gene by TPA might be another mechanism to enhance the effect of 1,25-(OH)2D3, besides up-regulation of VDR.  相似文献

Loss of chromosome 10 was assessed in 17 specimens of glioblastoma (GBM) by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) technique using the centromere probe for chromosome 10. Cytospinned smear specimens were prepared from paraffin-embedded specimens. The percentage of nuclei containing a single fluorescent signal ranged from 19.2 to 88. 0% (mean, 49.3%). Thirteen tumors (76.5%) were designated as monosomy 10 because the proportion of single-signal nuclei exceeded the cut-off value (31.5%: mean of five control materials +3 standard deviations). The results confirmed the importance of the loss of chromosome 10 for the development of GBM, although no significant correlation was demonstrated between the loss of chromosome 10 and survival. In addition, proliferation potential and angiogenesis of GBM were immunohistochemically analyzed using antibodies against Ki-67 antigen (MIB-1), factor VIII-related antigen (FVIII R/Ag) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), respectively. The labeling indices of MIB-1 (1.5-57.8%) and the number of blood vessels immunoreactive for FVIII R/Ag (18-279/10 high-power fields) were not significantly related to the loss of chromosome 10. Vascular endothelial growth factor immunoreactivity in areas microvessels were counted was seen in 12 cases. However, neither the loss of chromosome 10 nor number of vessels was not correlated with VEGF expression. Other genetic abnormalities as well as loss of chromosome 10 may be involved in the cell proliferation and angiogenesis of GBM.  相似文献

Abstract: We investigated 226 people belonging to a regional church of a new religious sect (hereinafter referred to as religious group) and 899 ordinary people living in the rural area near this church (hereinafter referred to as nonreligious group) with a questionnaire using Zung's Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS). In males ranging in age from 40 to 69, the mean scores of 7 SDS items out of 20 were significantly higher in the religious group than in the nonreligious group. Males at the age of 70 or older in both groups, however, did not show any significant difference in these items. It suggests that the religious affiliation exerted mentally good effects on the older male members.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to apply changes in forearm transcutaneous PO2 (tcPO2) during the cold water immersion test (5 degrees C, for 10 min) to the diagnosis of vibration syndrome. Forearm tcPO2 in healthy controls increased gradually up to 3 min after the start of the cold water immersion and decreased thereafter. It returned to almost the same level before immersion 5 min after the start. In the workers using vibrating tools manifesting Raynaud's phenomenon, forearm tcPO2 also increased up to 3 min after the start as in healthy controls, but no change was observed thereafter. The difference between the level of forearm tcPO2 at 3 min and that at 10 min after the start of the immersion (Forearm tcPO2 recovery index, newly devised by authors) in workers using vibrating tools was significantly lower than that in healthy controls. Therefore, investigation of changes in forearm tcPO2 following the cold water immersion test is considered to be a useful objective item which can contribute to the diagnosis of vibration syndrome.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: It is well known that injection of calcitriol (CT) or maxacalcitol (OCT) is very effective in hemodialysis patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism (2HPT). However, it is difficult to use these drugs with peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients with 2HPT because these drugs must be injected two or three times per week. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the stability of physiological activities of CT and OCT in PD bags and to determine the CT or OCT dosage for intraperitoneal (IP) administration. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We added CT 1.5 microg or OCT 10 microg to Dianeal PD-2 (approximate pH = 5.0, calcium = 0.87 mmol/L; Baxter,Tokyo, Japan), Midpeliq 250 (approximate pH = 7.0, Ca = 1.0 mmol/L;Terumo Corporation, Tokyo, Japan), and Peritoliq 250 (approximate pH = 5.5, Ca = 1.0 mmol/L; Terumo Corp.). Dialysis solutions were collected from the PD bags at 0, 1, 4, 8, 12, 24, 48, and 72 hours after addition of CT and OCT. The activities of CT and OCT in the dialysis effluent were measured by radioimmunoassay. The levels of serum and effluent OCT after a single IP administration of 10 microg OCT were examined in 4 PO patients with advanced 2HPT. RESULTS: Although the levels of CT and OCT in PD bags made of polyvinyl resins decreased by 70% - 75% immediately after injection, levels in PD bags made of polypropylene resins decreased only slightly. The concentration of CT mixed into the acidic solution in glass containers was stable; the decreased concentration of CT in the PD solution might be due to adsorption onto polyvinyl resins. The maximum serum concentration after IP administration of 10 microg OCT was 750 pg/mL after 5 minutes, and remained at 500 pg/mL at 60 minutes. These results show good peritoneal transport of OCT but not rapid disappearance, unlike intravenous administration. CONCLUSIONS: If peritoneal administration of vitamin D derivatives is contemplated, it is important to select the composition of PD bag resins, type of vitamin D analog, and time lag to use when deciding the dosage of injectable vitamin D preparations, such as OCT or CT, for IP administration to PD patients. It appears that IP administration in overnight dwells might be useful for PD patients as a complementary vitamin D preparation.  相似文献
