Measurement of protein C inhibitor in seminal plasma is useful for detecting agenesis of seminal vesicles or the vas deferens 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Protein C inhibitor (PCI), a plasma serine protease inhibitor of activated protein C, is present at high concentrations in the seminal plasma of normal subjects and is decreased in some infertile patients. We measured the concentrations of PCI, prostate-specific antigen, and fructose in the seminal plasma of infertile patients (n = 125) and of normal subjects (n = 13). We also measured time-dependent changes in the concentrations of PCI and fructose in seminal plasma after ejaculation. A weak correlation was found between the levels of PCI and fructose (r = 0.268, P = 0.016). The PCI level in seminal plasma of patients with seminal vesicle and/or vasal agenesis was significantly lower (P < .01) than in normal subjects. The level of fructose in seminal plasma decreased in vitro in a time-dependent manner after ejaculation, whereas the concentration of PCI was stable at 48 hours after ejaculation. These data suggest that PCI in seminal plasma, as well as fructose, may become one of the markers for agenesis of seminal vesicles and/or the vas deferens. 相似文献

We have recently found a novel cell-cell adhesion system at cadherin-based adherens junctions. This system consists of at least two components: nectin, an immunoglobulin-like cell adhesion molecule with Ca(2+)-independent homophilic binding activity, and l-afadin, an actin filament-binding protein that connects nectin to the actin cytoskeleton. In the present study, we investigated immunocytochemically the localization of l-afadin in the mouse hippocampus. At the light microscopic level, l-afadin immunoreactivity was demonstrated as flattened disks in the stratum lucidum of the CA3 area. By immunoelectron microscopy, signals for l-afadin were highly concentrated in a symmetrical manner at the puncta adhaerentia-like junctions between the mossy fiber terminals and the dendritic trunks of pyramidal cells. We furthermore immunostained the hippocampus with antibodies recognizing both l-afadin and s-afadin, a small splicing variant of l-afadin that is identical to AF-6. Immunoreactivity for l- and s-afadins was demonstrated not only as the flattened disks similar to that for l-afadin, but also as numerous fine dots widely distributed in all synaptic layers of the CA1 and CA3 areas. The latter finding may correspond with the recent report by Buchert et al. (1999, J. Cell. Biol. 144:361-371), who found that s-afadin (AF-6) and/or l-afadin was localized at the postsynaptic membranes of asymmetric synaptic junctions. Our present results indicate that l- and s-afadins are differentially distributed in the hippocampus and suggest that l-afadin localized at the puncta adhaerentia-like junctions in the mossy fiber terminals may regulate the structural and functional organization of these complex synaptic structures. 相似文献

The outcomes of three methods of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) for localized prostate cancer were evaluated. Between 2010 and 2018, 308 D’Amico intermediate- or high-risk patients were treated with 2.2 Gy daily fractions to a total dose of 74.8 Gy in combination with hormonal therapy. Overall, 165 patients were treated with 5-field IMRT using a sliding window technique, 66 were then treated with helical tomotherapy and 77 were treated with volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT). The median age of patients was 71 years. The median follow-up period was 75 months. Five-year overall survival (OS) and biochemical or clinical failure-free survival (FFS) rates were 95.5 and 91.6% in the 5-field IMRT group, 95.1 and 90.3% in the tomotherapy group and 93.0 and 88.6% in the VMAT group, respectively, with no significant differences among the three groups. The 5-year cumulative incidence of late grade ≥2 genitourinary and gastrointestinal toxicities were 7.3 and 6.2%, respectively, for all patients. Late grade ≥2 gastrointestinal toxicities were less frequent in patients undergoing VMAT (0%) than in patients undergoing 5-field IMRT (7.3%) and those undergoing tomotherapy (11%) (P = 0.025), and this finding appeared to be correlated with the better rectal DVH parameters in patients undergoing VMAT. Other toxicities did not differ significantly among the three groups, although bladder dose-volume parameters were slightly worse in the tomotherapy group than in the other groups. Despite differences in the IMRT delivery methods, X-ray energies and daily registration methods, all modalities may be used as IMRT for localized prostate cancer. 相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To clarify the anatomy of the vesico-uterine ligament (VUL), we meticulously separated the VUL under magnification (x2.5) during Okabayashi's radical hysterectomy. METHODS: Fifty-nine patients (TNM nomenclature: pTIb: 39, pT2a: 5, pT2b: 7, after trans-arterial anticancer-drug infusion treatment for the cervical cancer: 8) underwent this meticulous operation. Blood loss was recorded at two separate time points: during the separation of the VUL and after removal of the uterus. RESULTS: After complete separation of the uterine artery and superficial uterine vein from the ureter, we could identify the genuine connective tissue of the anterior leaf of the VUL in which we isolate and divide a distinct bundle of blood vessels: the cervicovesical vessels that cross over the ureter from the bladder to the cervix. The remaining tissues in the anterior leaf is only avascular connective tissue. The posterior leaf of the VUL is the tissue residing under the ureter connecting the posterior wall of the bladder and the lateral cervix/upper lateral vagina. In the connective tissues, we identified the middle and inferior vesical veins connecting with the deep uterine vein. The division of these veins could separate the urinary bladder with ureters completely from the lateral cervix and upper vagina. The mean blood loss during the separation of the VUL was 20+/-10 g (N=59) and after radical hysterectomy was 189+/-91.6 g (N=59). CONCLUSION: A precise network of blood vessels in the VUL is identified. The knowledge of this anatomy is important to perform radical hysterectomy. 相似文献

Photoreduction of Cu2+ ions to Cu metal by titanium(IV) oxide (TiO2) was conducted in the presence of a silica–surfactant hybrid under sulfuric acid conditions. After irradiation, a dark-red color, reflections due to Cu metal in the X-ray diffraction pattern, and peaks due to Cu 2p1/2 and 2p3/2 in the X-ray photoelectron spectrum indicated the precipitation of Cu metal in the product. In addition, an increase in the Brunauer–Emmett–Teller specific surface area from 36 and 45 m2/g for the silica–surfactant and TiO2, respectively, to 591 m2/g for the product, and a decrease in the intensity of the C-H stretching band in the Fourier–transform infra-red spectra implied the removal of surfactant during the reaction. These characteristics were never observed when TiO2 was used solely. Therefore, this study indicated that the photoreduction of Cu2+ ions to Cu metal by TiO2 was facilitated under the sulfuric acid medium, where the surfactants extracted from silica–surfactant hybrids by protons in the acidic condition were successfully photo-oxidized by TiO2. Aim: Endoscopic screening and removal of colorectal adenomas can reduce the incidence of colorectal cancer. However, given the possibility of adenoma recurrence, surveillance colonoscopy is currently recommended after the initial screening and removal of colorectal adenomas. Aberrant crypt foci (ACF) have been shown to serve as a reliable surrogate marker of colorectal carcinogenesis. In this study, the relationship between the number of ACF at the initial endoscopic polypectomy and the likelihood of colorectal adenoma recurrence after polypectomy were investigated. Methods: High‐magnification chromoscopic colonoscopy was performed in 82 subjects who underwent endoscopic polypectomy to identify ACF in the lower rectum. Surveillance colonoscopy was then performed 3 years after the baseline polypectomy at Yokohama City University Hospital. Results: The number of ACF was greater in patients who showed adenoma recurrence (7.88 ± 6.35) than in those who did not (2.19 ± 2.95) (P < 0.001). Receiver–operating curve analysis showed that the number of ACF was a highly specific predictor of the risk of adenoma recurrence. Conclusions: This is the first study conducted to investigate the relationship between the number of ACF after endoscopic polypectomy and the likelihood of recurrence of colorectal adenomas. These results suggest that the number of ACF is a useful predictor of the likelihood of colorectal adenoma recurrence. 相似文献
