Purpose We have studied whether curcumin protects different pulmonary aspiration material-induced lung injury in rats.
Materials and methods The experiments were designed in 60 Sprague–Dawley rats, randomly allotted into one of six groups (n = 10): normal saline (NS, control), enteral formula (Biosorb Energy Plus, BIO), hydrochloric acid (HCl), NS + curcumin-treated,
BIO + curcumin-treated, and HCl + curcumin-treated. NS, BIO, HCl were injected in to the lungs. The rats received curcumin
twice daily only for 7 days. Seven days later, both lungs in all groups were examined histopathologically, immunohistochemically,
and biochemically. Histopathologic examination was performed according to the presence of peribronchial inflammatory cell
infiltration, alveolar septal infiltration, alveolar edema, alveolar exudate, alveolar histiocytes, interstitial fibrosis,
granuloma, and necrosis formation. Immunohistochemical assessments were examined for the activity of inducible nitric oxide
synthase (iNOS) and the expression of surfactant protein D (SP-D). Malondialdehyde (MDA), hydroxyproline (HP), superoxide
dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activity were measured in the lung tissue.
Results Our findings show that curcumin inhibits the inflammatory response reducing significantly (P < 0.05) all histopathological parameters in different pulmonary aspiration models. Pulmonary aspiration significantly increased
the tissue HP content, MDA levels and decreased the antioxidant enzyme (SOD, GSH-Px) activities. Curcumin treatment significantly
decreased the elevated tissue HP content, and MDA levels and prevented inhibition of SOD, and GSH-Px enzymes in the tissues.
Furthermore, our data suggest that there is a significant reduction in the activity of iNOS and a rise in the expression of
SP-D in lung tissue of different pulmonary aspiration models with curcumin therapy.
Conclusion Our findings support the use of curcumin as a potential therapeutic agent in acute lung injury. 相似文献

Dissection of the carotid artery can occur intracranially or extracranially, although dissections tend to affect extracranial segments of the arteries much more commonly than intracranial segments. Carotid artery dissection (CAD) is most common in middle-aged women. Although not completely known, the main risk factors related to carotid artery dissection are genetic and environmental factors, traumatic events, cervical manipulation, migraine, recent infections, hyperhomocysteinemia, and hereditary connective tissue disorders. Although some cases of bilateral internal CAD have been reported, spontaneous bilateral dissections are rare. Prolonged hoarseness is usually due to using the voice either too much, too loudly, or improperly over an extended period of time. Disorders leading to dysphagia may affect the oral, pharyngeal, or esophageal phases of swallowing. We aimed to demonstrate whether enteral nutrition (EN) is feasible in daily practice of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).Nutritional records of 100 patients were evaluated. Patients with poor oral intake were fed by EN with tube. A total of 79 patients required nutritional support. Of them, 71 were fed by EN only. Five were fed by EN plus parenteral nutrition (PN),three were fed by PN only. Median duration of EN was 21 days. In the EN only group, 68% gained or maintained their weight. Objective
Enuresis is a health problem frequently encountered in childhood. This study was carried out in two socio-demographically different districts of the province of Istanbul, for the purpose of determining the relationship between the prevalence of primary nocturnal enuresis and certain demographic characteristics.Methods
The study design is a cross-sectional carried out on 420 children (5 to 13 yr old) through random sampling. The research was conducted at two health centers in two different districts in the province of Istanbul. Data was collected with a questionnaire created by the researchers. Diagnosis of enuresis considered nocturnal voiding twice a week for at least three consecutive months.Findings
Enuresis was a complaint expressed by 16.2% of the cases in the study group; 8.3% reported intermittent bedwetting. The data collected in the two districts pointed to a significant difference in terms of the frequency of enuresis in favor of the district where socio-demographic features were inferior (P<0.005). When family histories were explored in cases of children with enuresis, it was found that the mothers of 76.2% had the problem of enuresis while 14.9% had enuretic fathers. Thus statistically, the presence of enuresis in the family history was seen to have had a markedly significant impact on the occurrence of enuresis in the child (P<0.001).Conclusion
It was concluded that familial predisposition to the condition constituted a more significant risk factor for enuresis compared to socio-demographic or economic characteristics. 相似文献67.

Abstract: We present an 18‐yr‐old adolescent with acute lymphocytic leukemia, who underwent peripheral blood SCT with serologically and histologically documented chronic hepatitis B infection. Prior and during the transplant process, lamivudine was administered orally and he underwent SCT with a twofold decrease in viral load at the time of transplant from his HLA full matched, HBV natural immune (anti‐HBs and anti‐HBc positive) donor. Successful engraftment was achieved and three months after SCT, HBV seroconversion was documented accompanied with an ALT flare. Chronic graft‐versus‐host disease coincided after the transplantation, and he has been on immunosuppressive treatment for 25 months with sustained HBV seroconversion. We assume that adoptive immunity transfer combined with antiviral treatment might also constitute sustained seroconversion in chronic HBV, besides the reported risk of reactivation. 相似文献

STUDY OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to describe a safe technique without any ureteral, bladder, and major vessel injuries in laparoscopic hysterectomy with a CO2 laser technique. DESIGN: Prospective study (Canadian Task Force classification II-3). SETTING: Centre Hospitalier Interrégional Edith Cavell, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Endoscopic Laser Surgery Center, Bruxelles, Belgium; and Kadir Has University, Metropolitan Florence Nightingale Hospital, Istanbul, Turkey. PATIENTS: One thousand one hundred twenty women with benign diseases. INTERVENTIONS: Laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH) or laparoscopic hysterectomy (LH). MEASUREMENTS AND MAIN RESULTS: Between 1992 and 2004, in 1120 women with benign diseases, consecutive LAVH or LH was planned. During laparoscopic hysterectomy, at all stages, bipolar forceps was used for hemostasis, and a CO2 laser was used for vaporization and excision. The total operating time was 35 to 180 minutes, with a median of 52 minutes (range 35-163) for LAVH (n = 542) and 55 minutes (range 42-180) for LH (n = 552). Operations were successfully completed laparoscopically in 98.8% of the patients. The mean hospital stay was 2 days. The overall major complication rate was 1%. No ureteral, bladder, or major vascular injury occurred. CONCLUSION: The technique we used in our study is safe and effective in the prevention of ureteral, vesical, and vascular injuries during LAVH and LH; moreover, the use of bipolar coagulation and a CO2 laser in endoscopic surgery results in a shorter duration of operation. To recognize the period of exaggerated cytokine response in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pneumonia, and to describe the clinical outcomes of using tocilizumab as a treatment option. The data of 12 adult COVID-19 pneumonia patients who were followed in the inpatient clinics of Biruni University Medical Faculty Hospital (Istanbul, Turkey) were retrospectively analyzed. Diagnostic tests, laboratory examinations, clinical findings, and computed tomography of the thorax imaging results were evaluated. A dramatic laboratory and clinical improvement was observed in 83% (10 out of 12) of patients after tocilizumab. In 17% (2 out of 12) of our patients, short-term ventilator support was required in the intensive care unit. The longest hospital stay was 18 days. However, in the end, all of our patients were discharged home with good health. Although arterial oxygen saturations (87.58 ± 3.12%) dropped in room air in the pre-tocilizumab period, post-tocilizumab they normalized in all patients (94.42 ± 1%). None of them had fever after tocilizumab treatment and the levels of C-reactive protein (13.08 ± 12.89) were almost within normal limits. Eosinophil values were quite low at the time of diagnosis (10 ± 17.06), but increased significantly post-tocilizumab (155.33 ± 192.69). There is currently no proven treatment for COVID-19 induced by novel coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. Based on our experience with twelve adult COVID-19 pneumonia patients, we can say that tocilizumab, an IL-6 inhibitor, is more beneficial in preventing the damage caused by excessive cytokine response in the body if administered at the right time and provides clinical and radiological recovery. 相似文献

Time-dependent morphological alterations of cold-stored small bowel in Euro-Collins and Ringer's lactate solutions 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Small bowel is one of the organs that can in principle be transplanted. Optimum preservation of the organ is essential for the success of transplantation. The aim of the present study is the investigation of time-related morphological changes of rat small bowel during preservation in hypothermic Euro-Collins (EC) and Ringer's lactate (RL) solution using light microscopy and transmission electron microscopy to evaluate the integrity of intercellular complexes of mucosal epithelium, one of the tissues of the intestine that is most susceptible to ischemia. Small bowels were perfused with either EC, RL solution or physiological saline solution and were placed in the different preservation solutions at 4 degrees C for 0, 3, 6 and 12 h. The results of our study suggest that both preservation solutions are suitable for short-term preservation of the small bowel although RL solution is more effective than EC solution. However, we conclude that further improvement of preservation solutions and/or techniques are needed to perform long-term preservation. 相似文献
