PurposeThe major drawback of an external dacryocystorhinostomy (ExDCR) is visible skin scar leading to poor patient satisfaction. In this study we have analyzed the skin scarring objectively after Curvilinear incision (CLI) and W shaped incision (WSI).MethodsThis is prospective trial done at Department of Ophthalmology at tertiary level hospital. All the patients with primary acquired nasolacrimal duct obstruction were included in the study. Patients were assigned to group A(CLI) or Group B (WSI). Cosmetic outcome was assessed by scar visibility at 1st, 3rd and 6th month postoperatively by two ophthalmologists separately, who were unaware of incision type.ResultsWe studied 64 patients with median age 59.0 years (IQR [Interquartile range]: 50.0–66.8 years). Scar visibility was significantly (p = 0.001) more in WSI group at all follow-ups. None of the patients of CLI group showed visible scar at six months whereas ten patients (31.3%) of WSI group still had minimal scar (p < 0.001). Older patients had significantly less scar than younger patients. The time taken to perform ExDCR was significantly more with WSI (41.0 min, IQR: 40.0–44.0 min) than for CLI (33.0 min., IQR: 31.3–35.0 min); p < 0.05. Overall complication rates were similar in both the groups (p > 0.05) but extension of skin incision was more common in WSI group.ConclusionsWe found that CLI is more aesthetic, simpler, requiring less operative time and less incision related complications when compared with WSI. 相似文献

Multidrug resistance remains a serious clinical problem in the successful therapy of malignant diseases. It occurs in cultured tumor cell lines, as well as in human cancers. Therefore, it is critical to develop novel anticancer drugs with multidrug-resistance modulating potential to increase the survival rate of leukemia patients. Plant-derived natural products have been used for the treatment of various diseases for thousands of years. This review summarizes the anticancer and multidrug-resistance reversing properties of the extracts and bioactive compounds from traditional medicinal plants in different leukemia cell lines. Further mechanistic studies will pave the road to establish the anticancer potential of plant-derived natural compounds. 相似文献

A biodegradable polymer scaffold was developed using collagen and chitosan, in the form of interpenetrating polymeric network (IPN), for in vitro culture of human epidermoid carcinoma cells (HEp-2, Cincinnati). Glutaraldehyde was used as cross-linking agent for the development of scaffold. Various types of scaffolds were prepared using different proportionate mixtures of collagen and chitosan solutions in the ratio of 3:7, 4:6, 5:5, 6:4 and 7:3 (collagen:chitosan). These scaffolds were fully characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Equilibrium swelling studies were carried out in phosphate buffer of physiological pH (7.4) to study its swelling characteristics at slightly alkaline pH. The scaffold that showed optimum swelling property was selected as the best scaffold for performing in vitro culture studies. In vitro culture studies were carried out using HEp-2 cells, over the selected scaffold and its growth morphology was determined through optical photographs taken at different magnifications at various days of culture. The results of the above studies suggest that the scaffolds prepared from collagen and chitosan can be utilized as a substrate to culture HEp-2 cells and can also be used as an in vitro model to test anticancerous drugs. 相似文献

Eleven Nerocila species are recorded from 22 marine fishes belonging to 15 families. Three, Nerocila arres, Nerocila depressa, and Nerocila loveni, are new for the Indian fauna. N. arres and Nerocila sigani, previously synonymized, are redescribed and their individuality is restored. Nerocila exocoeti, until now inadequately identified, is described and distinctly characterized. A neotype is designated. New hosts were identified for N. depressa, N. loveni, Nerocila phaiopleura, Nerocila serra, and Nerocila sundaica. Host–parasite relationships were considered. The parasitologic indexes were calculated. The site of attachment of the parasites on their hosts was also observed. A checklist of the nominal Nerocila species until now reported from Indian marine fishes was compiled. 相似文献
