Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging systems produce spatial distribution estimates of proton density, relaxation time, and flow, in a two dimensional matrix form that is analogous to that of the image data obtained from multispectral imaging satellites. Advanced NASA satellite image processing offers sophisticated multispectral analysis of MR images. Spin echo and inversion recovery pulse sequence images were entered in a digital format compatible with satellite images and accurately registered pixel by pixel. Signatures of each tissue class were automatically determined using both supervised and unsupervised classification. Overall tissue classification was obtained in the form of a theme map. In MR images of the brain, for example, the classes included CSF, gray matter, white matter, subcutaneous fat, muscle, and bone. These methods provide an efficient means of identifying subtle relationships in a multi-image MR study. 相似文献

Since January 2004, German hospitals and specialists in private practice have equal rights to provide and to charge for ambulatory surgeries according to paragraph 115b, 5th Code of Social Law. The current agreement between the German self-governing bodies replaces the existing contracts from 1993. In contrast to the previous version, the revised catalogue contains additional non-operative procedures. Some procedures may be provided either in an ambulatory or inpatient setting. However, for the hospitals it is of particular importance that some specified procedures should be performed on an ambulatory basis. If these particular services are delivered in an inpatient setting at least one stipulated criteria of exception has to be fulfilled. From the perspective of dermatology, not only opportunities but also obligations for ambulatory care arise from the new conditions. The classical definition of adult tissue stem cells (TSC) is fundamentally based on a functional perspective. A TSC is an undifferentiated cell, capable of proliferation, self-renewal, production of a large number of differentiated functional progeny, regenerating tissue after injury and a flexibility in the use of these options. Here, we discuss the necessity for amending this definition in the light of recent insight into stem cell biology regarding stem cell heterogeneity, lineage plasticity, clonal fluctuation and cell-environment interactions. We conclude that the definition needs amendments. A decade ago the flexibility criterion has attracted little attention but recent findings have indicated its importance. Flexibility and reversibility of tissue and lineage specification (tissue plasticity) and of properties within a tissue (within-tissue plasticity) have major implications with regard to concepts of stem cell function. We advocate to give up the view of TSC as being entities with a preprogrammed development and to replace it by a concept that makes the capabilities for flexible and regulated tissue self-organization based on cell-cell and cell-environment interactions the new paradigm. This concept would permit to incorporate the context-dependent lineage plasticity, within-lineage plasticity and generation of stem cell heterogeneity as a result of a dynamically regulated process. Such concepts need a rigorous examination by formal modeling including simulation studies. We provide some general ideas on how to proceed with such theories and illustrate this with worked models for tissue stem cells of the hematopoietic system and the intestinal epithelium. 相似文献

Histamine, a major neurotransmitter both in vertebrates and invertebrates, transmits its actions through a set of well-known receptors. In vertebrates, these receptors belong to the family of G-protein-coupled receptors. In invertebrates, the few well-characterized actions of histamine are transmitted through ionotropic histamine receptors. To evaluate if metabotropic histamine receptors are part of the invertebrate histaminergic signaling cascade, I identified the complete set of metabotropic bioamine receptors from two invertebrates, whose entire genome has been sequenced: the fruitfly Drosophila melanogaster and the soil nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. A comparison with representatives of all groups of metabotropic bioamine receptors from vertebrates and invertebrates showed that none of these receptors clusters together with any of the four groups of vertebrate histamine receptors. This implies that no direct homologues to vertebrate metabotropic histamine receptor are present in invertebrates. Therefore, it is reasonable to account that the histaminergic neurotransmission in invertebrates is exclusively transmitted through ionotropic histamine receptors and that metabotropic histamine receptors evolved after the split between vertebrates and invertebrates. 相似文献

Six adult patients with growth hormone receptor deficiency (GHRD) (2 men, 4 women) with an identical defect in the growth hormone receptor (GHR) gene, were treated with recombinant human insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I), 40 μgikg S.C. twice daily, for 7 days. Serum concentrations of IGF peptide and IGF binding protein-3 (IGFBP-3) were measured by specific radioimmunoassays; serum IGFBPs were also measured by Western ligand blotting. The size distribution of both IGF-I and IGF-II was measured in serum following size-exclusion fast-performance liquid chromatography. IGF-I treatment resulted in a normalization of serum IGF-I levels on days 1–7 of treatment and a decrease in serum IGF-II levels. The fall in IGF-II levels and the simultaneous rise in IGF-I levels, however, resulted in an unchanged total serum IGF level. The low IGFBP-3 values did not significantly change during treatment, whereas there was a slight increase in IGFBP-2 levels. Preliminary analysis of size-fractionated sera suggested an increase in IGF-I levels in the 40 and 150 kDa regions at the expense of IGF-II levels. Blood loss and replacement in total hip arthroplasty: a multicenter study. The Preoperative Autologous Blood Donation Study Group 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
To determine blood loss, the number of transfusions, and the hemoglobin levels achieved in patients via transfusion in the course of total hip arthroplasty, 324 patient records from 1987 through 1989 were reviewed at three university and three community hospitals. Calculated blood loss was 3.2 +/- 1.3 units in primary procedures and 4.0 +/- 2.1 units in revision procedures (mean +/- SD). Of 777 red cell units transfused, 455 (59%) were autologous units. Transfused patients received 2.0 +/- 1.8 units for primary procedures and 2.9 +/- 2.3 units for revision procedures (mean +/- SD). The maximum number of units given to 95 percent of the transfused patients was 4 for primary procedures and 6 for revision procedures. The mean postoperative hemoglobin level after all transfusions was 103 to 110 g per L, regardless of patient age group of physical status, autologous donor status, or hospital. No difference in length of hospital stay was observed for patients less than 65 years old with hemoglobin concentrations of 80 to 139 g per L at discharge. 相似文献
