PurposeThe aim of this study was to qualitatively and quantitatively study MR artifacts of various stents on the basis of in vitro experiments. We were particularly interested whether sequence type and orientation of the stent with respect to the static magnetic field influences the artifact.Material and MethodsWe examined 18 stents of different material (nitinol, stainless steel, cobalt alloy), different design of the stent meshes (AccuLink, OmniLink, DynaLink, Xact, Protoge, Wallstent Monorail), different diameter (5–10 mm) and different length (18–58 mm) with a turbo spin echo (TSE), a 2D-fast low angle shot (FLASH) and a 3D-FLASH sequence. The MR images were examined qualitatively with respect to possible artifacts. Furthermore we examined the MR data quantitatively: The contrast-noise-ratio (CNR) was determined both within the stent and outside (within the tube); based on these values we calculated the transparency factor P, furthermore we calculated the apparent vascular lumen within the tube and within the stent.ResultsThe stents made of stainless steel and cobalt alloy displayed severe susceptibility artifacts. Therefore the vessel lumen within the stent could not be assessed. The nitinol stents showed different artifact patterns: The AccuLink and DynaLink stents showed less artifacts compared to the Xact and Protoge stents. Besides the susceptibility artifacts we found artifacts due to RF shielding by the stent mesh, particularly in TSE sequences.ConclusionA MR control of patients after stenting is possible and may yield diagnostic information when using the AccuLink or DynaLink stents. However, it is important to make sure that the stent is MR safe for the field strength used for the examination.  相似文献

To determine the pathophysiologic significance of pertussis toxin (PT) on the human beta-adrenergic system, beta-adrenoceptor (beta-R)-density and cyclic AMP response of peripheral mononuclear blood cells (MN leukocytes) were studied in children during the paroxysmal stage of natural pertussis infection, after vaccination with pertussis monovaccine, and in controls. Isoprenaline-induced cAMP accumulation, measured in a protein-binding assay, was significantly reduced to about 25-50% in children during the first week of paroxysmal pertussis, compared with controls. In contrast, cAMP accumulation after stimulation of the adenylyl cyclase by forskolin was unaffected. The density and affinity of beta-R, estimated by 125I-cyanopindolol-binding studies, were not significantly altered. The suggestion that PT might impair the coupling of the beta-R signals to the adenylyl cyclase was confirmed by parallel in vitro studies on MN leukocytes from adults. These cells, when incubated with purified PT, showed a significantly diminished cAMP response to isoprenaline, whereas that to forskolin remained unaffected. As cAMP accumulation in response to prostaglandin E1 and hydrocortisone was also reduced, it appears that PT may directly affect G-proteins serving as signal transducers for several stimulatory receptors. In contrast to the actual disease, in children treated with pertussis monovaccine, cAMP accumulation as well as the beta-R were unaffected. It is concluded that in MN leukocytes obtained from children during the natural course of pertussis, as well as after incubation of normal MN leukocytes with PT, the stimulatory signal-transducing system for cAMP generation is inhibited.  相似文献

Chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) of the lower legs may cause tissue damage, but involvement of peripheral nerves is uncertain. We examined 30 patients with CVI and 20 healthy controls using motor and sensory nerve conduction studies, vibration testing and thermotesting, quantitative sudomotor axon-reflex test, and laser Doppler flowmetry. Subjects with possible confounding factors for peripheral neuropathies were excluded. Prolongation of distal motor latency of the peroneal nerve (median, 5.4 versus 4.5 ms; P = 0.02), increased limits for warm (9.60 degrees C versus 5.20 degrees C; P = 0.016) and cold detection (3.45 degrees C versus 1.55 degrees C; P = 0.016) and reduced vibration sense (2.8925 versus 1.1075; P < 0.008) were found. The results demonstrate a disturbance of A-alpha fibers, A-beta fibers, A-delta fibers, and thermoafferent-C fibers, possibly induced by ischemia due to venous microangiopathy and increased endoneurial pressure. Analogous to neuropathic ulcers in diabetes, the CVI-associated neuropathy may also be a cofactor in the development of venous ulcers.  相似文献

T-cell-dependent B-cell help is likely to be of major importance in the pathogenesis of myasthenia gravis, but mechanisms provoking a pathological anti-acetylcholine receptor (AChR) response are poorly understood. We report on the dysregulation of recently identified CD4-/CD8- (double-negative) T cells (DN T cells), which have been shown to participate in immunoregulation and antibody augmentation. Compared with healthy controls, significantly increased frequencies of DN T cells were found in the blood of myasthenia gravis patients with lymphofollicular hyperplasia. After thymectomy, however, normalization in the number of these cells was seen in parallel with clinical improvement and reduction in anti-AChR antibody titers. The effect of thymectomy was observed irrespective of adjuvant treatment and held true for up to 4 years of follow-up. In marked contrast, frequencies similar to control values were found in myasthenia gravis patients with thymoma, with thymectomy having no further reducing effect. These data indicate that CD4-/CD8- T cells not only participate in the pathogenesis of myasthenia gravis but also correlate with disease activity and histological findings.  相似文献
