Management of thyroid carcinoma relies upon the tumour cells maintaining the differentiated functions that are typical of normal thyroid follicular cells, such as: dependence upon thyrotropin for growth, production of thyroglobulin and effective transport of iodine. Likewise, differentiated thyroid carcinomas often exhibit an auspicious clinical behaviour with a slow rate of growth and low potential for invasion and distant metastasis. These features permit therapy of disseminated tumour, effective follow-up surveillance and the assumption of a good prognosis. As each of these features are lost, the opportunities for both disease status assessment and therapeutic intervention diminish accordingly. A major obstacle is our failure to define effective systemic treatments to replace radioiodine therapy, whose loss is consonant with the loss of iodine transport and retention. The extreme of undifferentiated clinical behaviour is epitomized by anaplastic thyroid carcinoma, a rare, terminally dedifferentiated malignancy that is rapidly and invariably fatal. It is important to be attuned to clinical clues suggesting the presence of dedifferentiated tumour and related prognostic signs. This allows the application of currently limited therapeutic options and defines the need for research to develop new systemic treatments.  相似文献

We have reported the antidyslipidemic, antihypertensive, and Ca++ channel blocking activities of Viola odorata (VO) and Wrightia tinctoria (WT). This study extends our understanding of their therapeutic potential by exploring the effects on biomarkers of hepatic and vascular dysfunction together with phytochemical standardization and antioxidant potential. Total phenolic compounds, total flavonoids content, and proanthocyanins of the methanolic extracts were identified using HPLC. Antioxidant capacity was measured using the in vitro assays. Two studies of 6‐week duration were conducted on a high‐fat diet rat model to test the leaves and seed extracts of VO and WT (300 and 600 mg/kg) for their effect on biomarkers for hepatic and vascular dysfunction. The HPLC analysis showed high contents of total phenolic compounds, total flavonoids content, and proanthocyanins along with distinctive phenolic composition. Both extracts exhibited significant antioxidant potential in 1,1‐diphenyl‐2‐picrylhydrazyl, 2,2′‐azino‐bis(3‐ethylbenzothiazoline‐6‐sulphonic acid), fluorescence recovery after photobleaching, and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) assays, comparable with synthetic standard antioxidants. The in vivo studies indicated a significant reduction in the high‐fat‐diet‐induced rise in serum uric acid, phosphorus, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, and gamma‐glutamyl transferase. This study indicates the potential of VO and WT to protect from vascular and hepatic damage and an antioxidant effect, thus making these herbs strong candidates for managing cardiometabolic disorders.  相似文献

为研究复合中药制剂促进骨折愈合的疗效,对36只家兔进行实验性骨折研究。观察了煅自然铜、紫丹参、生绵耆、淫羊藿等多名药物对骨折愈合的影响,采用光镜、电镜、摄片、光镜四环素标记和Sirius染色记录,观察到骨折后第3周其骨折愈合的程度,明显高于对照组。表明李氏接骨丸对促进骨折愈合有实际的临床意义。  相似文献

Nonspecific X‐linked mental retardation is a nonprogressive, genetically heterogeneous condition that affects cognitive function in the absence of other distinctive clinical manifestations. We report here linkage data on a large Pakistani family affected by a form of X‐linked nonspecific mental retardation. X chromosome genotyping of family members and linkage analysis allowed the identification of a new disease locus, MRX53. The defined critical region spans approximately 15 cM between DXS1210 and DXS1047 in Xq22.2–26. A LOD score value of 3.34 at no recombination was obtained with markers DXS1072 and DXS8081. © 2001 Wiley‐Liss, Inc.  相似文献

This study aimed to modify an EQUIA coat (EC; GC, Japan) by incorporating 1 and 2 wt.% of zinc oxide (ZnO; EC-Z1 and EC-Z2) and titanium dioxide (TiO2; EC-T1 and EC-T2) nanoparticles, whereby structural and phase analyses were assessed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD), respectively. Thermogravimetric analysis/differential scanning calorimetry, micro-hardness, and water absorption analyses were conducted, and the microstructure was studied by scanning electron microscopy/energy-dispersive spectroscopy. FTIR spectra showed a reduction in peak heights of amide (1521 cm−1) and carbonyl (1716 cm−1) groups. XRD showed peaks of ZnO (2θ ~ 31.3°, 34.0°, 35.8°, 47.1°, 56.2°, 62.5°, 67.6°, and 68.7°) and TiO2 (2θ ~ 25.3°, 37.8°, 47.9, 54.5°, 62.8°, 69.5°, and 75.1°) corresponding to a hexagonal phase with a wurtzite structure and an anatase phase, respectively. Thermal stability was improved in newly modified materials in comparison to the control group. The sequence of obtained glass transitions was EC-T2 (111 °C), EC-T1 (102 °C), EC-Z2 (98 °C), EC-Z1 (92 °C), and EC-C (90 °C). EC-T2 and EC-T1 showed the highest (43.76 ± 2.78) and lowest (29.58 ± 3.2) micro-hardness values. EC showed the maximum water absorption (1.6%) at day 7 followed by EC-T1 (0.82%) and EC-Z1 (0.61%). These results suggest that EC with ZnO and TiO2 nanoparticles has the potential to be used clinically as a coating material.  相似文献
