Penile fracture is described as a traumatic rupture of the tunica albuginea caused by blunt injury to the erect penis. It usually occurs as a single rupture of the tunica albuginea in one of two corpora cavernosa; a rupture with urethral injury is an extremely rare condition. Although its diagnosis is usually clinical, ultrasound plays an important role in confirming diagnosis and identifying the site of the injury. Here, we presented a case of penile fracture with complete urethral injury. A 43-year-old male was admitted to the hospital because of trauma to the genital and dysuria following sexual intercourse. After admission, the patient was diagnosed with double penile fracture and complete urethral injury after the physical and B-ultrasound examinations. Emergency surgery to remove the hematoma and repair the urethra was performed. The patient recovered smoothly and was discharged on the third day after operation. After two months’ follow-up, the patient urinated smoothly and achieved an adequate erection without other complications. In this case, consistent with previous studies, emergency surgery for penile fracture is necessary and can preserve the urethral function and sexual function. In addition, there are two lesions in tunica albuginea in this case, so careful search for the penile shaft during the surgery is important to avoid the missed injuries. This report provides evidence of an uncommon and underreported clinical case. 相似文献
Decabromodiphenyl ether (BDE-209), a member of a major group of brominated flame retardants, is detected in aquatic environments at considerable levels and induces physiological and toxic effects on aquatic plants. In this study, the physiological responses induced by and the toxic effects of BDE-209 at different concentrations (0, 0.2, 0.5 and 1.0 mg L−1) in Lythrum salicaria were examined. OJIP transient curves indicated that BDE-209 treatment negatively affected photosystem II (PSII) grouping. Additionally, the results showed that BDE-209 inhibited seedling development and elevated reactive oxygen species (ROS), phosphorylated histone H2AX (γ-H2AX), malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and antioxidative enzyme activities in the roots and shoots of L. salicaria. The results revealed that BDE-209 exposure contributed to ROS accumulation, which was considered as the probable toxicity mechanism. The current results provided an insight into the development of L. salicaria with high BDE-209 tolerance.
Zika virus (ZIKV) infection has caused major public health problems recently. To develop subunit vaccines for ZIKV, we have previously constructed recombinant ZIKV envelope protein domain III (EDIII), and the entire ectodomain (E80, which comprises EDI, EDII and EDIII), as vaccine candidates and showed both of them being immunogenic and protective in murine models. In this follow-up study, we compared these vaccine candidates in non-human primates. Both of them elicited neutralizing antibody responses, but only E80 immunization inhibited ZIKV infection in both peripheral blood and monkey tissues, whereas EDIII increased blood ZIKV RNA through possibly antibody-dependent enhancement. Further investigations revealed that the virion-binding antibody response in E80 immunized monkeys persisted longer and stronger than in EDIII immunized monkeys. These results demonstrate that E80 is superior to EDIII as a vaccine candidate, and that the magnitude, quality and durability of virion-binding neutralizing antibodies are correlates of protection. 相似文献
