Supraspinal pain modulation may explain hypertensive hypoalgesia. We compared nociceptive flexion reflex (NFR) thresholds and pain during rest and computer game play in hypertensives and normotensives (Experiment 1) and normotensives with and without hypertensive parents (Experiment 2). The game was selected to modulate activity in pain pathways. NFR thresholds did not differ between groups during rest or game play. Pain ratings never differed between hypertensives and normotensives, whereas individuals with hypertensive parents reported less pain during the first two NFR assessments, compared to those without. NFR thresholds and pain were reduced by game play compared to rest. The failure of game play to differentially modulate NFR thresholds or associated pain reports between groups argues against enhanced supraspinal modulation of nociception and pain in hypertensives and those at increased risk for hypertension. 相似文献

Background
Although loggers in Alaska are at high risk for occupational injury, no comprehensive review of such injuries has been performed since the mid‐1990s. We investigated work‐related injuries in the Alaska logging industry during 1991‐2014.Methods
Using data from the Alaska Trauma Registry and the Alaska Occupational Injury Surveillance System, we described fatal and nonfatal injuries by factors including worker sex and age, timing and geographic location of injuries, and four injury characteristics. Annual injury rates and associated 5‐year simple moving averages were calculated.Results
We identified an increase in the 5‐year simple moving averages of fatal injury rates beginning around 2005. While injury characteristics were largely consistent between the first 14 and most recent 10 years of the investigation, the size of logging companies declined significantly between these periods.Conclusions
Factors associated with declines in the size of Alaska logging companies might have contributed to the observed increase in fatal injury rates.44.
The aim of this study was to identify factors promoting or impeding pre-registration degree level education at the first School of Nursing in Scotland offering transfer from diploma to degree programmes. A questionnaire was used to collect data from third year student nurses (adult branch). This included an "attitude towards obtaining a degree" scale, developed using psychometric techniques to maximise reliability and validity. Attitudes were generally positive. The majority of participants believed obtaining a degree would help nurses develop their career and increase their professional status. However, the majority disagreed with views that obtaining a degree was essential to be a good nurse, would make nurses better at their jobs and would improve patient care provided by nurses. Only 25% believed obtaining a degree ought to be essential for all student nurses. Twenty-nine participants did not accept transfer to a degree programme. Of these, four-fifths reported this was due to the combined pressures of academic workload, family and work. None of these participants believed that obtaining a degree would make nurses better at their jobs. A theory-practice divide seemed to exist whereby many participants did not relate increased degree knowledge to improved clinical practice. 相似文献

The use of decellularized xenogeneic heart valves might offer a solution to overcome the issue of human valve shortage. The aim of this study was to revise decellularization protocols in combination with enzymatic deglycosylation, in order to reduce the immunogenicity of porcine pulmonary heart valves, in means of cells, carbohydrates, and, primarily, Galα1-3Gal (α-Gal) epitope removal. In particular, the valves were decellularized with sodium dodecylsulfate/sodium deoxycholate (SDS/SD), Triton X-100 + SDS (Tx + SDS), or Trypsin + Triton X-100 (Tryp + Tx) followed by enzymatic digestion with PNGaseF, Endoglycosidase H, or O-glycosidase combined with Neuraminidase. Results showed that decellularization alone reduced carbohydrate structures only to a limited extent, and it did not result in an α-Gal free scaffold. Nevertheless, decellularization with Tryp + Tx represented the most effective decellularization protocol in means of carbohydrates reduction. Overall, carbohydrates and α-Gal removal could strongly be improved by applying PNGaseF, in particular in combination with Tryp + Tx treatment, contrary to Endoglycosidase H and O-glycosidase treatments. Furthermore, decellularization with PNGaseF did not affect biomechanical stability, in comparison with decellularization alone, as shown by burst pressure and uniaxial tensile tests. In conclusion, valves decellularized with Tryp + Tx and PNGaseF resulted in prostheses with potentially reduced immunogenicity and maintained mechanical stability. 相似文献

Previous xenogeneic immunization experiments in rhesus macaques with simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) grown in human CD4+ T cells consistently elicited protection from challenge with live SIV. However, the mechanism of protection has not been established. We present evidence that xenogeneic immunization induced significant CD8 suppressor factor, RANTES (regulated upon activation, normal T cell expressed and secreted), macrophage inflammatory protein (MIP) 1α, and MIP-1β (P < 0.001 - P < 0.02). The concentrations of these increased significantly in protected as compared with infected macaques (P < 0.001). Xenogeneic stimulation in vitro also up-regulated CD8 suppressor factors (SF; P < 0.001) and the β chemokines which were neutralized by antibodies to the 3 β chemokines. Recombinant human RANTES, MIP-1α and MIP-1β which bind to simian CCR5, suppressed SIV replication in a dose-dependent manner, with RANTES being more effective than the other two chemokines. The results suggest that immunization with SIV grown in human CD4+ T cells induces CD8-suppressor factor, RANTES, MIP-1α and MIP-1β which may block CCR5 receptors and prevent the virus from binding and fusion to CD4+ cells. 相似文献
