AbstractPursuing food systems’ sustainability is crucial. Given the risk constituted by unhealthy diets, scarce research on food-related adjacent fields, and inconsistency across food literacy conceptualizations, this study aims to explore the constructs’ definition and develop a conceptual and empirical framework of food literacy. A quantitative approach was taken on previously obtained qualitative outcomes from 30 interviews with experts from food-related fields. Food literacy was defined by a four-dimension model: Cooking Skills, Preserve and Analyse, Choice and Acquisition, Search and Plan. The framework Food Literacy Wheel integrates the construct definition, food literacy determinants (Internal, External) and influential factors (Nutritional, Psychological, Health, Learning Contexts, Policy, Industry, Sustainability, Social and Cultural). Allowing a broader perspective of food literacy within major food systems, this study contributes with new insights for future instruments and interventions, paving the way to develop/implement food literacy-related multi-sectorial and multilevel actions. 相似文献

Lutzomyia (Nyssomyia) intermedia (Lutz & Neiva 1912) and Lutzomyia (Nyssomyia) whitmani (Antunes & Coutinho 1939) (Diptera: Psychodidae) are vectors of American cutaneous leishmaniasis in several endemic regions of Brazil. We analyzed the external morphological aspects of the immature stages of these two vectors by using scanning electron microscopy. In general, the larval stages of the two species are morphologically similar, although some differences were noted. Detailed examination of the eggs of both species revealed similar exchorionic ornamentations of unconnected parallel ridges. The larval head capsules are well defined, heavily sclerotized, and bear prominent chewing mouthparts. The abdominal segments are easily recognized by the presence of prolegs on their ventral surfaces. The morphology of the anal lobe on the terminal abdominal segment differs between the two species. We found the following three types of sensillae inserted on the antennae: (1) clavate basiconic; (2) small, blunt coeloconic; and (3) multipourous clavate coleoconic. In addition; five subtypes of trichoid sensillae were found on the larval body: (1) long, (2) short, (3) curved long, (4) brush-like, and (5) weakly brush-like. The caudal filaments located on the last abdominal segment were recognized as long trichoid sensillae. We observed pores on the surface of the clavate coelonic sensillae and on the caudal filaments that presumably function as chemoreceptors. The larvae of the two species show similarities in the lobular-form antennae of L1 larvae, which changes to digitiform in second instar (L2), L3, and L4. This study demonstrated that the external surface of the eggs and larvae of Lu. intermedia and Lu. whitmani are morphologically similar, but they can be distinguished by details in the microanatomy observed by scanning electron microscopy. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has adopted guidelines for infection control of extracted teeth used for research and teaching, requiring that teeth be sterilized before use. The authors conducted a study to test the null hypothesis that the storage medium and sterilization method have no effect on composite-to-dentin bond strengths. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The authors collected 170 bovine incisors, cleaned them and placed them randomly into one of six storage media at 37 degrees C for 60 days: distilled water (dH(2)O), 0.9 percent sodium chloride, 0.5 percent chloramine-T, 5.25 percent sodium hypochlorite (NaClO), 2 percent glutaraldehyde and 10 percent formalin. For sterilization, they autoclaved a subset of 10 specimens from every sample, while they stored another subset of 10 specimens from every sample (except for the 10 percent formalin sample) in 10 percent formalin for 14 days. The authors then embedded the specimens in epoxy and ground flat the facial surface to expose middle-depth dentin, which they polished to 600 grit. They used a dental adhesive to apply composite to the exposed dentin. The authors tested the composite-to-dentin shear bond strength 24 hours after bonding. They analyzed the data using global analysis of variance and, when appropriate, multiple post hoc tests (P = .05). RESULTS: Storage in NaClO resulted in significantly lower bond strength than that of the other treatment specimens. Sterilization with the autoclave negatively affected the bond strength of specimens stored initially in dH(2)O or 10 percent formalin, while sterilization with formalin alone had no significant effect on bond strengths. CONCLUSIONS: Storing bovine teeth in 5.25 percent NaClO may negatively affect composite-to-dentin bond strengths. Immersion in 10 percent formalin might be the best option for storage and sterilization of bovine teeth that are to be used in dental bonding studies in vitro. 相似文献

The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the dye penetration around amalgam restorations in dentin cavities by a quantitative test. Standardized circular cavities were prepared on the facial surface of 75 extracted human single-rooted teeth, and restored with dental amalgam. Different bonding/sealing treatments were used on the cavity walls before the restorations were placed. The specimens were thermo-cycled between 5 +/- 2 degrees C and 55 +/- 2 degrees C for 500 cycles with 1-minute dwell times, followed by immersion in a 2% methylene blue solution for 12 hours at 37 degrees C. The quantitative microleakage was evaluated by spectrophotometry and was expressed by microgram dye per tooth structure. This observational study aimed to establishing a relationship between lipid peroxidation and endometriosis in women undergoing controlled ovarian hyperstimulation. A total of 79 women were divided into two groups: (i) controls (tubal or male factor); and (ii) endometriosis (stages III/IV). The endometriosis diagnosis was confirmed by videolaparoscopy and the controlled ovarian stimulation protocol was similar to all patients. Follicular fluid (FF) lipid peroxidation levels were determined through the quantification of malondialdehyde. Statistical analysis was performed using parametric and non-parametric tests, logistic regression was performed to estimate the chance of achieving a pregnancy in each group and a moving average was calculated for the endometriosis group. Peroxidation levels in the endometriosis group were significantly higher when compared to controls. The moving average showed a decrease of MDA levels in the endometriosis group with increasing female age. Moreover, women with endometriosis who were under 33 years of age were 4.3 times more likely to achieve a pregnancy than women above that age. In conclusion, endometriosis is associated with increased FF oxidative stress (OS) in patients undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF). Also, increasing age is associated with a decrease in severity of the oxidative status, but a decreased chance of pregnancy. 相似文献

Histone H1 of most eukaryotes is phosphorylated during the cell cycle progression and seems to play a role in the regulation of chromatin structure, affecting replication and chromosome condensation. In trypanosomatids, histone H1 lacks the globular domain and is shorter when compared with the histone of other eukaryotes. We have previously shown that in Trypanosoma cruzi, the agent of Chagas' disease, histone H1 is phosphorylated and this increases its dissociation from chromatin. Here, we demonstrate using mass spectrometry analysis that T. cruzi histone H1 is only phosphorylated at the serine 12 in the sequence SPKK, a typical cyclin-dependent kinase site. We also found a correlation between the phosphorylation state of histone H1 and the cell cycle. Hydroxyurea and lactacystin, which, respectively, arrest parasites at the G1/S and G2/M stages of the cell cycle, increased the level of histone H1 phosphorylation. Cyclin-dependent kinase-related enzymes TzCRK3, and less intensely the TzCRK1 were able to phosphorylate histone H1 in vitro. Histone H1 dephosphorylation was prevented by treating the parasites with okadaic acid but not with calyculin A. These findings suggest that T. cruzi histone H1 phosphorylation is promoted by cyclin dependent kinases, present during S through G2 phase of the cell cycle, and its dephosphorylation is promoted by specific phosphatases. 相似文献
