Primary upper small-intestinal lymphoma (PUSIL) has now been recognized as a distinct clinical entity with a distinct geographic distribution. Herewith are presented 40 cases of PUSIL seen at Pahlavi University Hospitals in Southern Iran. The investigation reveals the lymphoma to be predominantly a disease of those under 30 and males; the major complaints and physical findings point to an intraabdominal disease. An exception has been clubbing and osteoarthropathy. Special features of PUSIL include: (1) protein loss into the gastro-intestinal tract leading to hypoalbuminemia and edema; (2) an antibiotic-responsive diarrhea and steatorrhea; and (3) an associated abnormal heavy-chain protein. The study further stresses the importance of peroral small-intestinal biopsy and the pathologic features of this condition. 相似文献

We have investigated Scoparia dulcis, an indigenous plant used in Ayurvedic medicine in India, for its possible antihyperlipidemic effect in rats with streptozotocin-induced experimental diabetes. Oral administration of an aqueous extract of S. dulcis plant (200 mg/kg of body weight) to streptozotocin diabetic rats for 6 weeks resulted in a significant reduction in blood glucose, serum and tissue cholesterol, triglycerides, free fatty acids, phospholipids, 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl (HMG)-CoA reductase activity, and very low-density lipoprotein and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels. The decreased serum high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, anti-atherogenic index, and HMG-CoA reductase activity in diabetic rats were also reversed towards normalization after the treatment. Similarly, the administration of S. dulcis plant extract (SPEt) to normal animals resulted in a hypolipidemic effect. The effect was compared with glibenclamide (600 microg/kg of body weight). The results showed that SPEt had antihyperlipidemic action in normal and experimental diabetic rats in addition to its antidiabetic effect. 相似文献

The present investigation was carried out to evaluate the effect of N-benzoyl-D-phenylalanine (NBDP) and metformin on blood glucose, plasma insulin, and on the fatty acid composition of total lipids in the livers and kidneys of control and experimental diabetic rats. When compared with nondiabetic control rats, neonatal streptozotocin (nSTZ) diabetic rats showed a significant increase in blood glucose and decreased plasma insulin. Analysis of fatty acids revealed a significant increase in the concentration of palmitic, stearic, and oleic acids in liver and kidney, whereas linolenic and arachidonic acids were significantly decreased. In diabetic rats, the oral administration of combined NBDP/metformin for 6 wk decreased the high concentrations of palmitic, stearic, and oleic acids and elevated the low levels of linolenic and arachidonic acids. The results suggest that the NBDP/metformin combination exhibits both antidiabetic and antihyperlipidemic effects in nSTZ diabetic rats and prevents the fatty acid changes produced during diabetes. 相似文献

Although panic disorder usually emerges in early to middle adulthood, adults with panic disorder often retrospectively report that their panic symptoms began in childhood or early adolescence. The majority of these juvenile cases are being misdiagnosed, and/or do not come to clinical attention. Awareness of early-onset panic disorder, as well as a more precise definition of early signs and possible clinical subtypes, can favour timely diagnosis and treatment, reduce clinical impairment and improve the prognosis of these patients. In the context of a multimodal approach, pharmacological treatment can be helpful. This review focuses on the empirical evidence of pharmacotherapy in early-onset panic disorder, including selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, benzodiazepines and tricyclics. The data supporting efficacy are still limited, and no controlled studies are available. Practical guidelines for the management of these patients are provided, including treatment of the most frequent psychiatric comorbidities. 相似文献

Tetrahydrocurcumin is an antioxidative substance, which is derived from curcumin, the component of turmeric. In the present investigation, the effect of tetrahydrocurcumin and curcumin against chloroquine-induced nephrotoxicity were studied in female wistar rats. Oral administration of tetrahydrocurcumin significantly prevented the occurrence of chloroquine (970 mg/kg body weight)-induced renal damage. Upon administration of tetrahydrocurcumin to chloroquine-treated rats, the level of lipid peroxidation was significantly decreased while the levels of non-enzymic and enzymic antioxidants were significantly increased in kidney. Oral administration (80 mg/kg body weight) attenuated the chloroquine-induced nephrotoxicity by significantly decreased levels of serum urea and creatinine with significant normalization of creatinine clearance. On administration of tetrahydrocurcumin, the depleted renal antioxidant defense system (enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants) was significantly increased in rats treated with chloroquine. These biochemical observations were supplemented by histopathological examination of kidney section. These results suggest that administration of chloroquine imposes an oxidative stress to renal tissue and that tetrahydrocurcumin protects the oxidative damage associated with chloroquine. 相似文献

Hyperlipidaemia is an associated complication of diabetes mellitus. We recently reported that tetrahydrocurcumin lowered the blood glucose in diabetic rats. In the present study, we have investigated the effect of tetrahydrocurcumin, one of the active metabolites of curcumin on lipid profile and lipid peroxidation in streptozotocin-nicotinamide-induced diabetic rats. Tetrahydrocurcumin 80 mg/kg body weight was administered orally to diabetic rats for 45 days, resulted a significant reduction in blood glucose and significant increase in plasma insulin in diabetic rats, which proved its antidiabetic effect. Tetrahydrocurcumin also caused a significant reduction in lipid peroxidation (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances and hydroperoxides) and lipids (cholesterol, triglycerides, free fatty acids and phospholipids) in serum and tissues, suggesting its role in protection against lipid peroxidation and its antihyperlipidemic effect. Tetrahydrocurcumin showed a better effect when compared with curcumin. Results of the present study indicate that tetrahydrocurcumin showed antihyperlipidaemic effect in addition to its antidiabetic effect in type 2 diabetic rats. 相似文献

Electroporation uses pulsed, high‐intensity electric fields to temporarily increase cell membrane permeability by creation of pores, through which small molecules, such as chemotherapeutic agents, can diffuse inside cells before they reseal. The combination of electroporation with the administration of otherwise low‐permeant cytotoxic drugs is known as electrochemotherapy (ECT). The two most commonly used drugs are bleomycin and cisplatin. ECT has already been proven to be effective in diverse tumor histotypes, including melanoma and basal and squamous cell carcinoma, Kaposi sarcoma, and breast cancer, also in those cases nonresponding to classical chemotherapies or other loco‐regional treatment modalities, with a good safety profile. ECT can be proposed as loco‐regional therapy for disseminated cutaneous and subcutaneous tumor lesions as alternative treatment modality to conventional therapies or as palliative care, in order to improve patients' quality of life. 相似文献
