1. Rosiglitazone plays a positive role in the reparation of ischaemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury in different tissues. Thus, we examined its biochemical and histological effects on the contralateral testes to determine whether exogenous rosiglitazone affords any protection against testicular damage. 2. Forty-eight prepubertal male Wistar-Albino rats were divided into six groups. Testicular torsion was created by rotating the right testis 720 degrees in a clockwise direction for 5 h in all groups except group I, which was the sham-control group. In group II, bilateral orchiectomy was performed following the torsion period. After detorsion both testes were removed in the fifth hour in group III and on the seventh day in group IV. In group V, one-shot rosiglitazone (4 mg/kg) was administered 40 min before detorsion and both testes were removed following the torsion period. In group VI, rosiglitazone was administered (4 mg/kg) 40 min before detorsion and for 7 days, and then both testes were harvested. The tissue levels of malondialdehyde (MDA) were measured and mean testicular biopsy score (MTBS) and mean seminiferous tubule diameter (MSTD) were examined. Immunoexpression of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) in testes tissues was investigated by immunohistochemical studies. 3. In the contralateral testis, the MTBS and MSTD values of group VI were significantly higher than those in group IV. Immunohistochemically, mild eNOS immunostaining was present in the germ cells of the contralateral testes in group IV after I/R. In group VI, intense eNOS immunoreactivity was seen in the contralateral testes. 4. Rosiglitazone reduces contralateral testicular damage formed after unilateral testicular torsion and alleviates the oxidative events. 相似文献

Peripheral nerve trunks are well-vascularized structures where a well-developed collateral system may compensate for local vascular damage. Vasculitis in nerve has a predilection for epineurial vessels and causes to the peripheral neuropathy, which is a major clinical feature of primary and secondary systemic vasculitides. In the present study, the goal was to simulate the vasculitic neuropathy in rat sciatic nerve and to investigate the watershed zones after stripping of the epineural vessels of the sciatic nerve. Sciatic function index values, light and electron microscopic evaluations of the experimental sciatic nerve suggested that the sciatic nerve was normal except for some watershed zones located in the peripheral part of the nerve. Although there is abundant collateral circulation in the peripheral nerve, distribution of the vessels of the watershed zones as observed in the present study should be elucidated by further studies. 相似文献

We aimed to investigate the efficacy of pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) in lateral epicondylitis comparing the modality
with sham PEMF and local steroid injection. Sixty patients with lateral epicondylitis were randomly and equally distributed
into three groups as follows: Group I received PEMF, Group II sham PEMF, and Group III a corticosteroid + anesthetic agent
injection. Pain levels during rest, activity, nighttime, resisted wrist dorsiflexion, and forearm supination were investigated
with visual analog scale (VAS). Pain threshold on elbow was determined with algometer. All patients were evaluated before
treatment at the third week and the third month. VAS values during activity and pain levels during resisted wrist dorsiflexion
were significantly lower in Group III than Group I at the third week. Group I patients had lower pain during rest, activity
and nighttime than Group III at third month. PEMF seems to reduce lateral epicondylitis pain better than sham PEMF. Corticosteroid

Exposure to formaldehyde, which is an organic compound, disturbs the integrity of nasal mucosa. In this study, we aimed to clarify the protein changes in the junctional complex of nasal mucosa of Wistar rats exposed to formaldehyde inhalation.The study was performed in 20 female Wistar rats. Rats were divided into two groups randomly. Control rats were allowed free access to standard rat chaw and tap water (n:10). Experimental group was exposed to formaldehyde vapor at 15 ppm, 6 h/day, 5 days/week for 12 weeks (n:10). Histological evaluation of the experimental model was determined by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) and periodic acid Schiff (PAS) stainings of paraffin-embedded nasal mucosa tissues and by electron microscopy. The effects of formaldehyde inhalation on the distribution of occludin, E-cadherin, and γ-catenin were assessed by immunohistochemistry.The nasal mucosa of the experimental group was correlated with hypertrophy in goblet cell, degeneration in basal lamina, stratification of epithelium, and proliferation. Thickness of basal lamina and also local degenerative regions, vacuole increase in cytoplasmic areas, irregular forms of kinocilium and loss of sharpness in the kinocilium membrane were the findings at the ultrastructural level. The expressions of E-cadherin, occludin, γ-catenin proteins in intercellular junctional complexes of rat nasal mucosa were also decreased in experimental group compared to control group.The findings of the present study indicated that formaldehyde vapor inhalation in the concentrations and duration of exposure used in the present experiment significantly decreased the density of structural proteins of the junctional complex in the nasoepithelium. It was suggested that, the formaldehyde inhalation could cause complete impairment of intercellular junctional complexes and disturb the tissue integrity in nasal mucosa at higher concentrations. 相似文献

ObjectiveTo evaluate the role of the venous system in cyclical mastalgia.Materials and methods25 healthy women and 39 women with cyclic mastalgia underwent venous Doppler examination in both pre- and postmenstrual period. Upper-outer quadrant veins of breast were evaluated. The impedance indices of both groups were compared in both the premenstrual and postmenstrual period.ResultsDuring the premenstrual period, venous impedance indices were significantly higher in the patients with cyclic mastalgia (p = 0.004) than in the control group. After the menstrual period, there was no difference in venous impedance indices between the groups.ConclusionExcessive tissue oedema might be responsible for both a tension-mediated pain and a compression of the venous system thereby showing higher impedance than that in control group. 相似文献

Melatonin, the chief secretory product of the pineal gland, is a direct free radical scavenger. In addition to a direct scavenging effect on nitric oxide (NO), its inhibitory effect on nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity has been also reported. L-arginine is the substrate for both NOS and arginase. It has been suggested that there is a competition between arginase and NOS and that they control each other's level. NO plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of myoglobinuric acute renal failure (ARF). In this study, the authors aimed to investigate the effect of melatonin on arginase activity, ornithine, and NO levels on the myoglobinuric ARF formed by intramuscular (i.m.) injection of hypertonic glycerol. Forty rats were randomly divided into four groups. Rats in SHAM were given saline, and those in groups ARF, ARF-M5, and ARF-M10 were injected with glycerol (10 mL/kg) i.m. Concomitant and 24 hours after glycerol injection for the ARF-M5 and ARF-M10 groups, melatonin--5 mg/kg and 10 mg/kg, respectively--was administrated intraperitoneally. Forty-eight hours after the glycerol injection, kidneys of the rats were taken under anesthesia. Arginase activity, ornithine, and NO levels in the kidney tissue were determined. Melatonin had an increasing effect on kidney tissue arginase activities and ornithine levels while decreasing NO concentration. It is possible that besides the direct scavenging effect, the stimulatory effect of melatonin on arginase activity may result in an inhibition of NOS activity and, finally, a decrease in the kidney NO level. 相似文献
