Parathyroid carcinoma (PC) is a rare malignancy that poses a diagnostic challenge on histologic examination. We analyzed various clinicopathologic features of PC. Pathology reports and slides were reviewed to evaluate the diagnostic histopathologic features of archived cases of PC from the years of 2004–2018. The study cohort comprised twenty cases of PC. The median age was 49 years (range 21–73 years) with equal gender distribution (M:F = 1:1). Most patients presented with symptoms of hypercalcemia (n = 7, 54%). Serum calcium and serum parathyroid hormone were elevated in all but one patient. The right inferior parathyroid was commonly involved (n = 8/14, 57%). The mean tumor size was 2.4 cm (range 0.8–3.5 cm). On frozen section examination, PC was diagnosed in 8 out of 9 cases. Vascular (n = 19/20, 95%) and soft tissue invasion (n = 10/20, 50%) were the most common characteristic histologic findings. Capsular invasion was identified in all cases. Perineural invasion or metastasis at presentation was absent in all cases. Other histological features noted were intratumoral fibrous bands (70%), nodular growth pattern (70%), moderate nuclear atypia (30%), prominent nucleoli (20%), and necrosis (20%). Regional lymph nodes were negative for metastatic disease in all cases (n = 10). Eight out of 16 patients received adjuvant radiotherapy. Follow-up was available in 16 cases (median 21.5 months). Two patients died of disease. Vascular and soft tissue invasion are the most common diagnostic histologic features of PC. Capsular invasion is important to distinguish PC from its benign counterparts. Intraoperative frozen section examination can be used for accurate diagnosis and surgical management. 相似文献

A series of new 5-aryliden-2-imino-4-thiazolidinones (5a–e and 6a–e) were synthesized via a three-step reaction and characterized by physicochemical and spectral data. The uniqueness of the derivatives lies in the fact that none of them had an acidic group, like conventional NSAIDS, but exhibited significant in vivo activity in acute inflammation models. In particular, 5-(3-chlorobenzyliden)-2-(pyridin-2-yl-imino)-4-thiazolidinone(5a) and 5-(3-chlorobenzyliden)-2-(5-methylisoxazol-3-yl-imino)-4-thiazolidinone (6a) showed remarkable paw oedema inhibition (67.76 and 74.47 % oedema inhibition, respectively, after 3 h) comparable to that of Ibuprofen (74.56 % oedema inhibition, after 3 h) at half of the dose of the standard drug. Also, compounds 5a (72.86 %) and 6a (80.20 %) were found to possess significant inhibition of albumin denaturation when screened for in vitro anti-inflammatory activity. In addition, these compounds were docked into the known active site of COX-2 protein using Glide XP and QPLD algorithms, and the binding-free energy was calculated using Prime MM/GBSA simulation methods. The combined use of molecular docking and MM/GBSA methods gave a good correlation between the predicted binding-free energy and experimentally determined biological activities. It was also evident from the docking results that 2-methylisoxazolylimino or 2-(pyridin-2-yl-imino substitution and 3-chloro moiety on 5-benzylidin nucleus of these 4-thiazolidinone derivatives can easily occupy the COX-2 binding pocket, considered as the critical interaction for COX-2 inhibition. Moreover, pharmacokinetic properties of all the synthesized compounds were predicted, with good results. Metal-free organic polymer photocatalysts have attracted dramatic attention in the field of visible light-induced hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, we showed a polymeric O-linked heptazine polymer (OLHP) decorated with S, N co-doped graphene quantum dots (S,N-GQDs) as a photosensitizer to generate hydrogen upon quantum dot sensitization. Both of these heptazine-based systems show effective photosensitization with strong π–π interactions and enhanced photocatalytic H2 generation (24 times) as metal-free systems. Electrochemical impedance and optical measurements show effective charge transfer kinetics with decreased charge recombination, which is responsible for the enhanced photocatalytic activity. A new fluorescent sensor 5 based on a fused imidazopyridine scaffold has been designed and synthesized via cascade cyclization. The reaction features the formation of three different C–N bonds in sequence. Imidazopyridine based fluorescent probe 5 exhibits highly sensitive and selective fluorescent sensing for Fe3+(‘turn-on’) and Hg2+(‘turn-off’). The excellent selectivity of imidazopyridine for Fe3+/Hg2+ was not hampered in the presence of any of the competing cations. The limit of detection (LOD) of 5 toward Fe3+ and Hg2+ has been estimated to be 4.0 ppb and 1.0 ppb, respectively, with a good linear relationship (R2 = 0.99).
