The establishment of drainage and the elimination of the origin of infection are essential procedures for successful management of odontogenic infections. Irrigation and aspiration are considered as the 2 main procedures for the treatment of facial space infections; we invented a new method named simultaneous irrigation and aspiration. The simultaneous irrigation and aspiration method is significantly less painful and less invasive compared with the standard surgical incision and drainage. This method was thought to be useful for managing facial infections if proper patient selection is performed.  相似文献

PurposeStudying the effect of surface roughness and thermal cycling on titanium–ceramic bonding.MethodsOne hundred fourteen samples in the form of bar for the C.P. titanium and Ti–6Al–4V alloy were used. They were divided into two groups according to the type of bar. Each group was then subdivided according to the type of surface treatment to three subgroups, control, airborne-particle abrasion and silica coated. Each subgroup was subdivided into two classes according to the type of test (surface roughness and bond strength). Samples used for the bond strength test were veneered. These samples were subdivided into two subclasses according to thermal cycling; whether without thermal cycling or after 6000 thermal cycles.ResultsThe surface roughness test results showed that silica coating recorded the highest surface roughness. Also C.P. titanium gave higher value of surface roughness than Ti–6Al–4V alloy. As regard the bond strength, the airborne-particle abrasion classes and the silica coated classes recorded bond strength values above the acceptable limit of 25 MPa determined in ISO 9693. As regard thermal cycling, the results showed that aging by thermal cycling decreased the metal–ceramic bond strength.ConclusionsThe airborne-particle abrasion and the silica coating are acceptable treatments for titanium–ceramic restorations. Increasing surface roughness of C.P. titanium and Ti–6Al–4V alloy not necessarily results in an increase in their bond strength to ceramics. Aging affects the metal–ceramic bond strength.  相似文献

Objectives: We studied the association between the prooxidant-antioxidant balance (PAB), anti-malondialdehyde-modified low-density lipoprotein (oxidized LDL, ox-LDL) IgG antibody and indices of cardiac function (systolic and diastolic function) in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Methods: Fifty-five patients with established CAD were selected, and serum levels of anti-ox-LDL IgG and PAB values were measured and compared with 40 matched healthy controls. Systolic and diastolic functions were determined for all patients. Results: PAB values were significantly higher in patients than in controls (p < 0.001), whilst serum anti-ox-LDL concentrations were not statistically different between the 2 groups (p = 0.821). However, after adjustment for high-density lipoprotein cholesterol, the patients had higher anti-ox-LDL levels (p = 0.04). Total PAB values were inversely associated with ejection fraction (r = -0.326, p = 0.031), but this was not the case for anti-ox-LDL in either group (p > 0.05). Conclusion: Serum concentrations of a marker of oxidative stress (PAB values) are inversely associated with cardiac function. PAB is a relatively simple index that could be incorporated into risk assessment in CAD patients. Anti-ox-LDL IgG antibody concentration does not appear to reflect total oxidative stress as assessed by PAB.  相似文献

Background

Prospective data on cardiac iron removal are limited beyond one year and longer-term studies are, therefore, important.

Design and Methods

Seventy-one patients in the EPIC cardiac substudy elected to continue into the 3rd year, allowing cardiac iron removal to be analyzed over three years.

Results

Mean deferasirox dose during year 3 was 33.6±9.8 mg/kg per day. Myocardial T2*, assessed by cardiovascular magnetic resonance, significantly increased from 12.0 ms ±39.1% at baseline to 17.1 ms ±62.0% at end of study (P<0.001), corresponding to a decrease in cardiac iron concentration (based on ad hoc analysis of T2*) from 2.43±1.2 mg Fe/g dry weight (dw) at baseline to 1.80 ±1.4 mg Fe/g dw at end of study (P<0.001). After three years, 68.1% of patients with baseline T2* 10 to <20 ms normalized (≥20 ms) and 50.0% of patients with baseline T2* >5 to <10 ms improved to 10 to <20 ms. There was no significant variation in left ventricular ejection fraction over the three years. No deaths occurred and the most common investigator-assessed drug-related adverse event in year 3 was increased serum creatinine (n=9, 12.7%).

Conclusions

Three years of deferasirox treatment along with a clinically manageable safety profile significantly reduced cardiac iron overload versus baseline and normalized T2* in 68.1% (32 of 47) of patients with T2* 10 to <20 ms.  相似文献

The probable protective effects of copper on the acetylcholinesterase activity and the catecholamine levels in cerebellum, cortex and mid-brain of rat, which was intoxicated by aluminum, were studied during short and long terms. In this respect, male Wistar rats weighing 200–250 g were received daily intraperitoneal doses of aluminum, copper and also combined doses of both metals for 15 days (Al 10 mg kg?1 BW and Cu 1 mg kg?1 BW), 30 days (Al 5 mg kg?1 BW and Cu 0.5 mg kg?1 BW) and 60 days (Al 1 mg kg?1 BW and Cu 0.1 mg kg?1 BW), respectively. The results obtained from the short period of exposure (15 days) showed that aluminum produced significant (P < 0.05) decreases in the acetylcholinesterase activity by 24.14, 23.30 and 25.81 %. Similarly, the catecholamine levels were reduced by 10.69, 12.25 and 12.64 % in cerebellum, cortex and mid-brain, respectively. Treatment with copper increases both acetylcholinesterase activity and catecholamine contents of cerebellum, cortex and mid-brain. Simultaneous injection of copper and aluminum increased both acetylcholinesterase activity and catecholamine contents in all three parts of rat brain when compared to aluminum-treated group. Same results were also observed following 30 and 60 days of exposures. In overall, it has been found that copper may have a protective-like ability to hinder aluminum toxicity in the brain.  相似文献

Sarcocystosis caused by different Sarcocystis species and is a zoonotic protozoan infection with worldwide distribution in man and many animal species. In the present study, three techniques — direct inspection, impression smears and digestion method — were used for the diagnosis of Sarcocystis infection in 112 slaughtered sheep in a Kerman abattoir from November 2010 to May 2011. A total of 450 slaughtered sheep were selected randomly during three seasons, and their oesophagus and diaphragm were inspected using naked eye examination. In the second stage, 112 carcasses out of the 450 which had no apparent infection were selected randomly and their meat investigated using two techniques: impression smear with staining and pepsin digestion. The percentage of macroscopic cysts found in the oesophagus and diaphragm muscle was 6% and 2.88%, respectively, and microscopically, infection was found in 100% of the organs. There was no significant difference between different ages or between males and females. Although all of the sheep were found to be infected with Sarcocystis, majority of the cysts were demonstrated microscopically. This suggests that meat should be cooked sufficiently, since a macroscopic inspection may not provide true results.  相似文献

Purpose : This study aimed to determine if the use of gabapentin is more efficacious than a stabilization splint with regard to the intensity of masseter muscle contractions and/or sleep quality for patients experiencing sleep bruxism (SB). Materials and Methods : Twenty patients with SB participated in this clinical study. They were randomly divided into two treatment groups: stabilization splint group (n = 10) and gabapentin group (n = 10). The first polysomnographic examination was performed before the beginning of the experiment for all the participants. At the end of a 2‐month period of stabilization splint therapy or gabapentin usage, a second polysomnographic recording was made. Results : Statistically significant reductions in the number of SB episodes per hour and per night, bruxism time index, total duration of SB episodes per night and number of SB episodes in stages NR I and NR II (p < 0.05) were observed in both groups after treatment. Both treatments significantly reduced the mean intensity of masseter muscle contractions during SB episodes. Moreover, the participants treated with gabapentin showed a significant improvement in total sleep time, slow wave sleep (stage III), and sleep efficiency (p < 0.05). Conclusions : Gabapentin could be an effective treatment modality in SBs, especially in those with poor sleep quality.  相似文献

Our study aims to identify trends in anthropomorphic attributes and competitive strategies of successful (medalists) versus non medalist young Olympic Taekwondo competitors by gender in terms of body mass, body-mass index (BMI) and fighting technique at the Youth Olympic Games 2010. Results were then compared to adult Taekwondo Olympic athletes in 2000, 2004 and 2008. Data on 96 Taekwondo athletes were obtained from the official Youth Olympic website. A LOGIT analysis was performed on the following six independent variables: height, body mass, body mass index, gender, techniques used to score, and warnings obtained during a match. The study did find some differences between winners and non-winners for males and female, although none of the differences were statistically significant. Consequently, training personnel may enhance winning potential of Taekwondo competitors by focusing on offensive versus defensive techniques and improving the quality of punching.  相似文献

Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has been used to accelerate wound healing, yet questions remain concerning its therapeutic applications. This study aimed to compare the healing efficacy of helium-neon (He-Ne) red light (laser) and gallium aluminum arsenide (Ga-Al-As) infrared lasers at two different doses on hard palate wounds. In a randomized controlled study, 75 adult male mice were divided into five groups of 15 each, after undergoing identical surgical procedures; a control group, with no laser irradiation; HD1 and HD2 groups, treated with He-Ne laser (wavelengths 632.8 nm, power 5 mW, and spot size 0.02 cm2) at doses of 4 J/cm2 and 7.5 J/cm2 respectively; and GD1 and GD2 groups, treated with Ga-Al-As laser (wavelengths 830 nm, peak power 25 mW, and spot size 0.10 cm2) at the doses of 4 J/cm2 and 7.5 J/cm2, respectively. Five animals from each group were killed on the third, seventh, and 14 days after surgery, and biopsies were made for histological analysis. On the 3rd and 7th day after the surgery, the number of polymorphonuclear cells (PMN) in HD1, HD2, GD1, and GD2 groups was significantly lower than that of the control group. On the 7th and 14th day, the fibroblasts and new blood vessels counts and collagen density fibers in HD1, HD2, GD1, and GD2 groups were also significantly higher than that of the control groups, and the fibroblast counts and collagen density fibers in HD1 and HD2 groups were higher than that of the GD1 and GD2 groups. LLLT with He-Ne laser compared to Ga-Al-As laser has a positive healing effect on hard palate gingival wounds in mice regardless of the radiation dose.  相似文献
