The sympathetic nervous system is believed to play a major role in regulating cardiovascular function during exercise. However, only a few direct measurements of sympathetic nervous activity during whole body dynamic exercise have been attempted. In the present study, we have established a method to allow routine measurement of renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) and cardiovascular function during treadmill exercise in rats. We trained Wistar rats to run on the treadmill for a week before the surgery. At least 2 days before the experiment, electrodes for recording RSNA, electrocardiogram and electromyogram, and catheters for the measurements of systemic arterial and central venous pressures were implanted under aseptic conditions. Satisfactory signal to noise ratios were obtained in 80 %, 60 % and 40 % of the group at 1-3 days, 4-7 days and 8-10 days after the surgery, respectively. RSNA was successfully recorded without contamination by external noise during treadmill exercise. Treadmill exercise resulted in an abrupt increase in RSNA, by 82 % at 0.5 min, and then reached a stable level of ~40 % during the period of 5-30 min after the onset of treadmill exercise. We assessed the efficacy and adverse effects of ivermectin for the treatment of chronic strongyloidiasis. Fifty patients
were treated with a single dose of ivermectin at approximately 200 μg/kg, and the dose was repeated 2 weeks later. The eradication
rate was 96% (48 of 50 patients) at 2 weeks after the first dose and 98% at 2 weeks after the second dose (49 of 50 patients).
In the latter cases, no recurrence was noted at the end of the 4-month post-treatment follow-up period. The gastrointestinal
symptoms observed most frequently before the treatment were borborygmus, constipation, and diarrhea. These symptoms improved
in the majority of patients after the treatment. Side effects, including nausea and vomiting, occurred in 1 patient (2%),
but these were mild and transient. Although abnormal values in laboratory tests were observed in 4 patients (8%), they were
mild, and no particular clinical care was required. Thus, ivermectin showed an excellent antihelminthic effect, with little
toxicity. Our results indicate that a regimen of two single doses of 200 μg/kg ivermectin, given 2 weeks apart, is clinically
suitable for the treatment of chronic strongyloidiasis.

A 68-year-old man, who had underwent aortic valve replacement (AVR) with Björk-Shiley disc valve for aortic regurgitation 17 years ago, was transferred to our hospital complaining of facial ruddiness and swelling, without chest or back pain. Preoperative examination revealed DeBakey type II aortic dissection, which caused superior vena cava syndrome (SVC syndrome). Emergent ascending aortic replacement was performed, postoperatively central venous pressure (CVP) decreased from 33 to 9 mmHg, and SVC syndrome was relieved. Painless aortic dissection after AVR, presenting as SVC syndrome, is a rare case, and close follow-up should be performed under consideration of painless aortic dissection late after AVR. 相似文献

Two flat adenomas and a flat mucosal carcinoma of the colon were reported in patients with synchronous and metachronous colonic carcinomas. These lesions were almost flat and were not detected by preoperative endoscopic examinations. Colonoscopists should be aware of the presence of flat adenomas, which can be easily missed, and recognize them as lesions that play an important role in the "adenoma-carcinoma sequence." 相似文献

A 34-year-old male presented with central diabetes insipidus accompanied by upbeat nystagmus and cerebellar ataxia. The patient without family history of above began to walk at the age of 2 years. Polyposia and polyuria were noted at the age of about 4 years. Dysbasia developed at the age of about 7 years. From the age of 30, lalopathy appeared together with various clinical symptoms including cataracts, disturbed intelligence, upbeat nystagmus, abnormal ocular movements, ataxic speech, cerebellar ataxia and reduction of the muscle tone of the limbs, and hypotonic polyuria. Abnormal laboratory findings included square wave jerks, upbeat nystagmus, and "bow tie" nystagmus by EOG, atrophy of the cerebellum and the brainstem by CT, a slight prolongation of the P300 latency, and a central diabetes insipidus pattern by water deprivation test and Carter-Robbins tests. There have been occasional reports of diabetes insipidus complicated by cerebellar ataxia, but in no earlier reports has diabetes insipidus been concurrent with abnormal ocular movements such as upbeat nystagmus. A degenerative disease primarily of the posterior lobe of the hypophysis, hypothalamus, cerebellum, and brainstem was suspected. 相似文献

Summary The renal and hormonal effects of the 1-adrenoceptor blocker bunazosin were examined in 6 patients with essential hypertension. Oral bunazosin for 4 to 12 weeks significantly decreased mean blood pressure by 10%, increased effective renal blood flow and creatinine clearance by 34% and 37%, respectively, the plasma norepinephrine concentration was elevated by 60%, and the plasma atrial natriuretic peptide level was lowered by 22%. The plasma renin activity and aldosterone concentration were unchanged. Thus, a moderate reduction in blood pressure was produced by bunazosin treatment while maintaining renal perfusion. 相似文献

Two Puralpha-binding proteins (PurBPs) were found in nuclear extract from mouse brain during P4-P10 by the overlay assay. At P14, they were decreased significantly in nuclear extract and increased in the S3 fraction, indicating their dynamic translocation during development. Western blot analysis also demonstrated concomitant translocation of Puralpha with the PurBPs during P7-P14, when neuronal circuit proceeds. Immunocytochemical study with cultured hippocampal neurons from rat E18 confirmed that nuclear Puralpha was translocated to cytoplasm after plating for 7-14 days. These results suggest that spatiotemporal translocation of Puralpha with the PurBPs from nuclei to cytoplasm has a crucial role in neuronal development. 相似文献

By Western blot analysis, the expression level of aquaporin (AQP) 5 in the submandibular gland (SMG) was found to be different among individual rats of the Sprague-Dawley (SD) strain. Such differences were observed for AQP5 but not for AQP1 and consequently the SD strain was divided into two groups, one expressing a high level of AQP5 and the other a low one. The difference in average intensity of expression between the two groups was more than twofold. Immunohistochemical analysis of the SMG demonstrated that the AQP5 protein was localized in the basal and apical/lateral plasma membrane of acinar cells in rats expressing the high level of AQP5. In the rat expressing the low level, however, this channel protein was localized strongly in the apical/lateral plasma membrane, but only very weakly in the basal membrane of the acinar cells. Such a diverse localization of AQP5 was confirmed by Western blotting as well. Breeding between brother and sister was repeated for two times within high expressers and low expressers to obtain the third generation progenies (F2); the AQP5 level of the SMG in the third generation (F2 rats) from high expressers was significantly higher than the F2 from low expressers.
