Hydatid disease (HD) is a unique parasitic disease that is endemic in many parts of the world. HD can occur almost anywhere in the body and demonstrates a variety of imaging features that vary according to growth stage, associated complications, and affected tissue. Radiologic findings range from purely cystic lesions to a completely solid appearance. Calcification is more common in HD of the liver, spleen, and kidney. HD can become quite large in compressible organs. Hydatid cysts (HCs) can be solitary or multiple. Chest radiography, ultrasonography (US), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, and even urography can depict HCs. The imaging method used depends on the involved organ and the growth stage of the cyst. US most clearly demonstrates the hydatid sands in purely cystic lesions, as well as floating membranes, daughter cysts, and vesicles. CT is best for detecting calcification and revealing the internal cystic structure posterior to calcification. MR imaging is especially helpful in detecting HCs of the central nervous system. Radiologic and serologic findings can generally help establish the diagnosis of HD, but an HC in an unusual location with atypical imaging findings may complicate the differential diagnosis. Nevertheless, familiarity with imaging findings, especially in patients living in endemic regions, is advantageous in this context.  相似文献

Food-borne botulism is a rare disease that results from ingestion of the toxins produced by Clostridium botulinum. The most common cause of the disease is the consumption of home-canned foods prepared under inappropriate conditions, especially in rural environments. In this report, a food-borne botulism outbreak potentially caused by roasted home-canned mushrooms is evaluated and the major reasons for delayed diagnosis are emphasized. The clinical features, symptoms and prognosis of the five botulism patients involved in this outbreak are presented. The clinical progressions, treatments, durations of mechanical ventilation, intensive care unit stays and hospital stays of the three patients admitted to Akdeniz University Hospital are reported.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine demographic, environmental, belief, and personality factors related to maternal well-being as a part of a comprehensive project. In this study, maternal well-being was measured as prenatal anxiety and postnatal depression. A total of 200 pregnant women participated in this study. Women were included who were married, pregnant with a first child, working full time before conception and over the age of 20 years. The participants were selected from university hospitals and birth clinics in Ankara, Turkey. Participants were interviewed at 6-8 months of pregnancy and at 6-8 months after the birth. Each interview included structured items to measure relevant variables and lasted approximately 45-60 minutes. Results revealed that in the prenatal period lower maternal income, self-esteem and self-efficacy were significantly associated with prenatal maternal anxiety. In the postnatal period, maternal depressive symptoms were significantly associated with unplanned pregnancy, higher anxiety, perceived lower satisfaction with paternal physical support, and negative maternal attitudes toward employment. Findings indicated that prenatal high anxiety might be an adverse risk factor for postnatal well-being of mothers. In conclusion, both common and culture-specific factors related to prenatal and postnatal maternal well-being might assist with maternity and early care policies in this culture.  相似文献

Solid lipid ketoprofen micropellets (SLKM) at different drug/beeswax ratios [(1:1) and (1:2)] were prepared by emulsion congealing technique and then compressed into tablets. Ketoprofen in solid state was incorporated into the melted beeswax at 90 degrees C and the mixture was emulsified in the hot aqueous Tween 80 solution by stirring at a constant rate. The SLKM were obtained by cooling the coarse emulsion down to room temperature and filtering. Drug entrapment efficiency and particle size analysis by laser diffractometry (LD) were determined, and existence of a drug-lipid interaction was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) on the SLKM, before being compressed into the tablets by direct compression method. Finally, in vitro release studies were performed and the release kinetics of the waxy tablets were calculated. A commercial ketoprofen retard tablet (reference: Profenid Retard 200 mg) was also examined to compare the release properties. While the data obtained from DSC were indicating absence of drug-lipid interaction in the SLKM, it was determined that 28.62% (+/-2.08), 38.60% (+/-1.91) and 47.00% (+/-1.82) of ketoprofen was released from the tablets containing (1:2) and (1:1) SLKM and Profenid Retard 200 mg in pH 7.4 phosphate buffer solution after 8 h, respectively.  相似文献

Intracranial needles are a rare entity. They most commonly present with headache and seizures. The management of such patients is sometimes challenging. We present a 52-year-old woman who was admitted to our hospital with status epilepticus, because of an inracranial needle. Objective

The aim of this study is to assess the effects of metal artifact reduction (MAR) and adaptive image noise enhancer (AINO) in CBCT imaging on the detection accuracy of artificially created fenestration defects in proximity to titanium and zirconium implants in sheep jaw.

Methods

Six zirconium and 10 titanium implants were planted on mandibular jaws of three sheep, and artificial defects were created. All images were obtained with a standard voxel size (0.150 mm3) and with 4 scan modes: (1) without MAR/without AINO; (2) with MAR/without AINO; (3) without MAR/with AINO; and (4) with MAR/with AINO during CBCT scanning. A total of 60 CBCT scans were produced.

Results

For all types of implants, intra- and inter-observer kappa values were the highest for MAR filter. The scan mode of with MAR filter was found to have the highest area under the curve (AUC), whereas the scan mode of without both MAR and AINO filters was found to have the lowest AUC values with statistical significance (p?≤?0.05). Titanium implants were found to have higher AUC values than zirconium (p?≤?0.05).

Conclusion

Both MAR module and AINO filters enhance the accuracy of the detection of peri-implant fenestrations; however, the use of MAR filter solely can be recommended for detection of peri-implant fenestrations.
