Summary: Various poly(ε‐caprolactone‐block‐1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one) (P(CL‐block‐PDX)) block copolymers were prepared according to the living/controlled ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) of 1,4‐dioxan‐2‐one (PDX) as initiated by in situ generated ω‐aluminium alkoxides poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) chains in toluene at 25 °C. 1 1H NMR, PCS and TEM measurements have attested for the formation of colloids attributed to a growing PPDX core surrounded by a solvating PCL shell during the polymerization of PDX promoted by ω‐Al alkoxide PCL chains in toluene. The thermal behavior of the P(CL‐block‐PDX) copolymers was studied by DSC; showing two distinct melting temperatures (as well as two glass transition temperatures) similar to those of the respective homopolyesters. Finally, the thermal degradation of the P(CL‐block‐PDX) block copolymers was investigated by TGA simultaneously coupled to a FT‐IR spectrometer and a mass spectrometer for evolved gas analysis (EGA). The degradation occurred in two consecutive steps involving a first unzipping depolymerization of the PPDX blocks followed by the degradation of the PCL blocks via both ester pyrolysis and unzipping reactions.
Multidrug-resistant isolates of a clonal lineage of Pseudomonas aeruginosa producing the VIM-2 metallo-beta-lactamase (MBL), involved in a large outbreak in an Italian hospital, were compared with MBL-negative strains that had caused outbreaks in two French hospitals. Although the isolates had different carbapenem MICs, the VIM-2-producing isolates from Italy carried identical, or very similar, allelic forms of the oprD gene, harboured a common class 1 integron, belonged to the same multilocus sequence type (ST111), and showed macrorestriction profiles that were related to those of the MBL-negative French strains. These results support the concept of independent acquisition of resistance determinants by members of a widespread clonal lineage of P. aeruginosa. 相似文献
The brains of mice infected with Japanese encephalitis (JE) virus by intracerebral inoculation (IC), intraperitoneal inoculation with sham intracerebral inoculation (IP+sIC), and intraperitoneal inoculation (IP) were studied by light and electron microscopy. The mortality rates and mean survival days were 100% and 4.8 days for the IC group, 92% and 9.0 days for the IP+sIC group, and 58% and 13.4 days for the IP group. Accordingly, the brain samples of sick mice were examined by light and electron microscopy 4 days post-inoculation (p.i.) for the IC group, 7 days p.i. for the IP+sIC group and 12 days p.i. for the IP group. In light microscopy, the mouse brains in the IC group showed little inflammatory change with only mild generalized glial-cell proliferation and mononuclear cell infiltration. In electron microscopy, however, a majority of neurons in the brain were seen to be infected with virus that replicated exclusively in the neuronal secretory system, including rough endoplasmic reticulum (RER) and the Golgi apparatus. In contrast, light microscopic observation of the brains from the IP+sIC and the IP groups showed prominent inflammatory changes with leucocytic infiltration and perivascular cuffing. Neuronal degeneration and neuronophagia were also prominent. In electron microscopy, neurons were infected in the same manner as in the IC group, but showed more advanced degenerative changes with marked cytoplasmic rarefaction and frequent neuronal disintegration. Mononuclear cells were frequently found in direct contact with degenerating and disintegrating neurons. The results showed that (a) the basic process of JE virus replication in brain neurons was present in the three groups of mice, (b) in the peripherally inoculated mice the process was accompanied by inflammatory reaction with resultant neuronal destruction, and (c) breach in the blood-brain barrier at the time of peripheral viral inoculation played an important role in the viral invasion of the CNS. 相似文献
Several mouse monoclonal antibodies which recognize carbohydrate sequences distinguish between different types of human lung cancer immunohistologically. These antibodies bind to glycolipid antigens produced by the cancer cells. When these glycolipids are separated by thin-layer chromatography, immunostaining of the chromatograms yields complex patterns of antigen-positive bands. To determine whether glycolipid patterns are useful in the classification of lung cancer, 16 human lung cancer cell lines comprising the major histological types of primary lung cancer were studied. Neutral glycolipids and gangliosides were isolated and separated by thin-layer chromatography. Six anti-carbohydrate antibodies which recognize structurally related antigens were used for immunostaining. Neuraminidase treatment of the chromatograms was used to detect "cryptic" sialylated antigens. All the cell lines were unique with regard to the type, amount, and chromatography pattern of the glycolipid antigens produced. Small cell lung cancer cell lines synthesized the greatest variety of antigens, whereas cell lines with large cell cytology synthesized the least. Interestingly, there was an inverse relationship between expression of some glycolipid antigens and DNA amplification of the c-myc oncogene. This suggests that enhanced c-myc expression may influence the types of glycolipids expressed at the surface of lung tumor cells. 相似文献
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) risks are of concern among immigrants and refugees settling in affluent host countries. The prevalence of CVD and risk factors among Somali African immigrants to the U.S. has not been systematically studied.
Methods
In 2015–2016, we surveyed 1156 adult Somalis in a Midwestern metropolitan area using respondent-driven sampling to obtain anthropometric, interview, and laboratory data about CVD and associated risk factors, demographics, and social factors.
Results
The prevalence of diabetes and low physical activity among men and women was high. Overweight, obesity, and dyslipidemia were also particularly prevalent. Levels of calculated CVD risk across the community were greater for men than women.
Conclusion
Though CVD risk is lower among Somalis than the general U.S. population, our results suggest significant prevalence of risk factors among Somali immigrants. Comparison with prior research suggests that CVD risks may be increasing, necessitating thoughtful intervention to prevent adverse population outcomes.
IntroductionFibroepithelial polyps (FEP) of the lower urinary tract are relatively common in adults but rare in children, with fewer than 250 cases reported in the literature to date.ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to address the experience of FEP management in children.Study designA retrospective multicenter review was undertaken in children with defined FEP of the lower urinary tract managed between 2008 and 2018. The data at 18 pediatric surgery centers were collected. Their demographic, radiological, surgical, and pathological information were reviewed.ResultsA total of 33 children (26 boys; 7 girls) were treated for FEP of the lower urinary tract at 13 centers. The most common presentation was urinary outflow as hematuria (41%), acute urinary retention (25%), dysuria (19%), or urinary infections (28%). A prenatal diagnosis was made for three patients with hydronephrosis. Almost all of the children (94%) underwent ultrasound imaging of the urinary tract as the first diagnostic examination, 23 (70%) of them also either had an MRI (15%), cystourethrography (25%), computerized tomography (6%), or cystoscopy (45%). Two of these children (6%) had a biopsy prior to the surgery. The median preoperative delay was 7.52 (range: 1–48) months. Most of the patients were treated endoscopically, although four (12.1%) had open surgery and two (6.1%) had an additional incision for specimen extraction. The median hospital stay was 1.5 (range: 1–10) days. There were no recurrences and no complications after a median follow-up of 13 (range: 1–34) months.DiscussionThe main limitation of our study is the retrospective design, although it is the largest one for this pathology.ConclusionThis series supports sonography as the most suitable diagnosis tool before endoscopy to confirm the diagnosis and to perform the resection for most FEP in children. BackgroundDiffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common subtype of non–Hodgkin lymphoma in the posttransplant setting. Treatment is based on chemotherapy; surgery is still debated and should be performed in very select cases.MethodsWe observed 2 patients out of 300 who underwent lung transplantation in the Nouvel Hopital Civil between 2013 and 2019 with primary hepatic lymphoma. Chemotherapy with a rituximab-cyclophosphamide, hydroxydaunorubicin, vincristine, prednisone protocol was performed in all patients. Mycophenolate mofetil was interrupted before treatment, and everolimus was introduced after chemotherapy by associating tacrolimus withdrawal.ResultsOne patient showed complete remission; after 7 years, no recurrence has been noticed. The second is still undergoing chemotherapy with no signs of disease progression.ConclusionsDLBCL risk is higher in solid organ transplant recipients than in the general population. Primary hepatic lymphoma diagnosis is often difficult and based on histologic findings after initial clinical and radiological suspicion of primary or secondary liver neoplasia. Diagnosis is challenging because no clinical, radiological, or biological features exist. Biopsy is always indicated for histologic confirmation. Chemotherapy is the mainstay of therapy, but surgery may be indicated in very select patients. 相似文献
