The perception of social support may be a trait-like construct stemming from the current personality and early environment as well as a summation of the actual support perceived. A total of 220 community individuals were examined for the effects of Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ) items and early life experience at home and outside on the number of sources of perceived social support and satisfaction with that support. High extraversion and low neuroticism scores of the EPQ were correlated with the availability of support only in women, while high maternal care and low maternal overprotection in childhood were correlated with the satisfaction with support only in men. Availability of support was also correlated with some types of early life events. The quantity and quality of perception of social support differ in their links to personality and early environment, and may be, to some extent, explainable in terms of them.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The prognosis of cancer patients with distant metastases is extremely poor. CASE: A 51-year-old Japanese woman with Stage IIIc serous cystoadenocarcinoma of the ovary achieved complete remission. At 30 and 39 months after the initiation of therapy, solitary brain and then spleen metastases without intraperitoneal lesions were found, respectively. A simultaneous elevation in tumor markers (CA125 and CA72-4) was noted at the spleen metastasis; however, only a marked elevation in CA 72-4 levels at the brain metastasis was noted. Immunohistochemical studies revealed that although CA125-positive cells could be observed in both the original tumor and the spleen metastasis, CA125-positive cells could not be observed in the brain metastasis and that CA72-4-positive cells could be observed in both the original ovarian tumor and the metastatic tumor. CONCLUSION: It is important to monitor with tumor markers with different characteristics, such as CA125 and CA72-4.  相似文献

The authors report two cases of the rare concurrence of intestinal aganglionosis and Waardenburg syndrome in Japanese infants. The patients were a 1-month-old girl and a 3-month-old boy at diagnosis, and both of them had either short segment or ultra-short segment aganglionosis. A review of 48 cases in the literature showed that the extent of the aganglionic segment is quite variable, from nearly total to ultra-short. The clinical features of aganglionosis in Waardenburg syndrome would appear to bear similarity in sex ratio and the extent of aganglionosis with those of Hirschsprungs disease associated with Ondines curse, another type of neurocristopathy.  相似文献

In Japan, approximately 40 persons die annually from anaphylaxis caused by Hymenoptera stings. Venom immunotherapy is considered safe and effective for the treatment of allergic systemic reactions caused by Hymenoptera stings in patients with Hymenoptera allergy. We studied the efficacy and safety of rush immunotherapy in patients who had a history of systemic reactions to Hymenoptera stings in Japan. Between 1988 and 2002, 95 patients with a history of systemic reactions to Hymenoptera stings were investigated. The stings originated from honeybees in 5 patients, yellow jackets in 28, wasps in 48, both yellow jackets and wasps in 9, and both yellow jackets and honeybees in 5. All patients had venom-specific IgE antibodies in sera (RAST score > or = 2) and received rush immunotherapy with venom extracts at our hospital. Forty-three patients had 63 field re-stings during immunotherapy. Of these patients, 41 (95.3%) with 59 field re-stings (93.7%) had no systemic reactions. Two patients (4.7%) with four field restings (6.3%) had anaphylactic shock. Although anaphylactic reactions developed in two patients (2.1%) during rush immunotherapy with honeybee venom and one patient (1.1%) during maintenance therapy wasp venom, systemic adverse reactions were mitigated by treatment with antihistamines before venom injection. Our results show that immunotherapy is safe and effective for the prevention of systemic reactions to Hymenoptera re-stings in patients with Hymenoptera allergy. We therefore recommend that patients who are allergic to Hymenoptera venom prophylactically receive immunotherapy.  相似文献

Voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs) are essential molecules for neuronal function. VGCCs consist of five subunits, alpha1, alpha2, beta, gamma, and delta. Among the ten subtypes of the alpha1 subunit (alpha1A-I and S), expression of alpha1S was previously believed to be restricted to the skeletal muscle. We report here, however, that alpha1S is also expressed in human and rat central nervous system. First, we performed PCR screening for VGCC alpha1 subunits in human nervous system using degenerate primers, and identified alpha1S as well as all the eight alpha1 subunits with previously described expression. Intriguingly, alpha1S was selectively localized to the basal ganglia, particularly the caudate nucleus. In situ hybridization showed that alpha1S was expressed in medium-sized caudate neurons. Quantitative analysis using real time RT-PCR revealed a distinct pattern of alpha1S expression among L-type calcium channels. Furthermore, RT-PCR using laser-mediated manipulation of single cells suggested that human alpha1S was coexpressed with ryanodine receptors (RYRs) in GABAergic neurons. Our results suggest the potential relevance of alpha1S to dopaminergic signal transduction and calcium-induced calcium release in caudate neurons.  相似文献
