To evaluate the effect of smoking on nonrespiratory function in the lung, a dynamic PET with 13NH3 in the lung was performed in 18 normal volunteers without lung disease nor congestion (9 non-smokers, 4 exsmokers, 5 smokers). After intravenous bolus injection of 13NH3, twenty serial 5.5-second scans followed by six 30-second scans were performed. Regions of interests were assigned on the ventral, lateral and dorsal part of the right lung and time-activity curves were generated through 26 images. The activity curve demonstrated a biexponential clearance from the lung with fast and slow component. The retention fraction (RF), fractional size of the slow component, was calculated, and the half-times (t 1/2) of both components were also evaluated. A significant increase of RF and prolongation of t 1/2 of slow component were observed in smokers compared to non-smokers and exsmokers. However, no significant difference of RF nor t 1/2 of both components was observed between non-smokers and exsmokers. These results suggest that long term smoking may modify the pulmonary kinetics of 13NH3, but the change is reversible after cessation of smoking for one year or longer.  相似文献

The long term (10 to 15 years) results of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) were studied in 20 patients. The duration of follow-up was ranged from 130 to 170 months with mean 146.4 months. Ten out of 20 patients underwent coronary angiography (CAG), which disclosed that the late patency of saphenous vein (SV) grafts was 68.8% (11/16), but 54.5% (6/11) of patent SV grafts showed atherosclerotic changes such as irregularity and localized narrowing. On the other hand, internal thoracic artery (ITA) grafts were all patent without any atherosclerotic luminal changes. We recognized that ITA grafts were superior to SV grafts from an angiographic standpoint of view in the long term in Japan.  相似文献

Single neuron activities in the lateral hypothalamic area (LHA) were recorded during bar press feeding task in the monkey. First registered neurons were sorted into 2 groups, glucose-sensitive (GS) and glucose-insensitive (GIS) neurons, depending on their glucose sensitivity. Then firing variations to feeding, electrophoretically applied catecholamines and opiate, and to odor and taste stimuli were investigated. GS neurons responded to dopamine, noradrenaline and morphine more often than GIS neurons. In feeding task GS neurons responded during bar press (BP) and reward (RW) periods with long-lasting inhibition of firing and at cue tone (CT) with transient inhibition, while GIS neurons responded during BP and RW periods mainly with excitation and at cue light (CL) with excitation. A majority of GS neurons responded to both odor and taste stimuli more often than GIS neurons. Data suggest that these two kinds of neurons in the LHA may be involved in different functional aspects of feeding: GS neurons, mainly in internal information processing and reward mechanism, and GIS neurons, in external information processing and motor aspects.  相似文献

Summary The size of the neuronal and non-neuronal histamine pools in the brain of three different strains of rats was measured by assuming that the -fluoromethylhistidine-induced maximal decrement of histamine represents the size of the neuronal pool. Although the total histamine levels in the brain showed a considerable interstrain variation, no significant interstrain difference was observed in the neuronal histamine level. These results suggest that the size of the neuronal histamine pool in the brain is relatively stable, whereas the size of the non-neuronal histamine pool is variable.  相似文献

Summary Magnetic resonance (MR) images of 29 consecutive patients with intraspinal neoplasms (9 intramedullary tumors, 20 extramedullary tumors) were reviewed to evaluated the utility of MR imaging in distinguishing the intraspinal compartmental localisation and signal characteristics of each lesion. Compartment and histology of all neoplasms were surgically proven. MR correctly assigned one of three compartments to all lesions, 9 intramedullary, 14 intradural extramedullary (6 schwannomas, 3 neurofibromas, 5 meningiomas), and 6 extradural (3 schwannomas, 1 meningioma, 1 cavernous hemangioma, 1 metastatic renal cell carcinoma). All intramedullary tumors showed swelling of the spinal cord itself. In all five extradural tumors a low intensity band was visualized between the spinal cord and tumor. On the other hand, a low intensity band was demonstrated in no cases with intradural tumors. Visualization of this low intensity band is important in differentiating extradural from intradural-extramedullary lesions. We call this low intensity band, the extradural sign. Signal intensity of intradural tumors varied with histology. In extramedullary tumors, signal intensity of schwannomas was similar to that of the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) both on T1 weighted (inversion recovery) and T2 weighted spin echo (SE) images. On the other hand, meningiomas tended to be isointense to the spinal cord on both T1 and T2 weighted SE images. We found relatively reliable signal characteristics to discriminate meningioma from schwannoma.  相似文献

Summary The turnover of brain histamine was examined in mice implanted subcutaneously with a morphine pellet (50 mg free base). The numbers of naloxone-precipitated jumpings and body shakes were maximum 2 and 3 days after implantation, respectively. The brain tele-methylhistamine level significantly increased (50% to 115%) during 12 h3 days after implantation of a morphine pellet, whereas the histamine level remained unchanged. The accumulation of tele-methylhistamine by pargyline treatment was significantly enhanced when pargyline was administered 12 h after implantation, suggesting an enhancement of histamine turnover. However, a similar degree of the tele-methylhistamine accumulation was induced by pargyline during 1–5 days after implantation, as compared with the accumulation in the control mice implanted with a placebo pellet. In mice undergoing morphine withdrawal by either the removal of morphine pellet or the treatment with naloxone 3 days after implantation, the degree of the pargyline-induced telemethylhistamine accumulation or the (S)--fluoromethylhistidine (-FMH)-induced histamine decrease was similar to that observed in the placebo pellet-control mice. The numbers of naloxone-precipitated jumpings and body shakes occurring in mice 3 days after implantation were not significantly affected by any of l-histidine, -FMH or metoprine. These results suggest that turnover of histamine in the brain is enhanced by acute morphine treatment and returns to the normal rate in the stage of chronic treatment and remains unchanged during the state of withdrawal.
