A national study was conducted between 1991 and 1994 to explore and describe the changing role of the nurse teacher following the introduction of Project 2000 pre-registration nursing courses. Multiple methods were used to collect data from a wide variety of respondents (nurse teachers, midwife teachers, clinical nurses, health service managers and higher education lecturers). This paper presents the findings relating to the impact of Project 2000 and the move into higher education on the continuing educational needs of nurse teachers. Views on college strategies for staff development, the changing nature of teachers'academic and professional development needs and the problems of the conflicting demands experienced are reported. The research highlights the need for clinical credibility to be clearly defined in relation to nurse teachers and for educational institutions to place more emphasis on teachers'clinical development if the rhetoric of policy is to become a reality.  相似文献

Alcoholic inpatients evaluated the level of empathy demonstrated by a purported alcoholism counselor. Forty-two detoxified subjects viewed a 15-min videotape of a simulated alcoholism counseling session. Subjects had been randomly assigned to one of two groups: Group 1 was told that the counselor they were about to see was a recovering alcoholic whose empathy they were to evaluate. The subjects in Group 2 were given the same instructions; however, the information concerning the counselor's drinking history was omitted. A form of the Barrett-Lennard Relationship Inventory (BLRI) was administered immediately after the viewing. No statistical differences between group means on the empathy subscale of the BLRI were found. This finding does not support the contention that a history of drinking and rehabilitation enhances the perception of counselor empathy among alcoholics.  相似文献

If phenylketonuria (PKU) is not treated from an early age with a reduced phenylalanine diet, irreversible brain damage may occur. Although dietary intervention can do nothing to alter this impairment once it occurs, there is some evidence to suggest that a low phenylalanine diet may help to reduce the level of behavioural disturbances frequently experienced by people with untreated PKU. Using this evidence, dietary intervention was used in response to the challenging behaviour of a 30-year-old man with profound learning disabilities. Initial improvements were observed, but overall the results were inconclusive. Possible confounding factors are discussed. An unusual reaction to neuroleptic medication whilst on the diet is also documented.  相似文献

N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor/channel antagonists have previously been shown to impair spatial working memory and hippocampal long-term potentiation. The present experiment investigated the effects of a variety of doses of NMDA antagonists on a working memory task in rats involving an auditory delayed conditional discrimination. Signal detection analysis and an exponential memory decay model were used to extract independent measures of stimulus discriminability and rate of forgetting. A competitive NMDA antagonist, (CPP, 0.33, 1.0, 10.0 mg/kg, IP) produced a reduction in discriminability which was linearly related to log dose, but which was only clear at the 10 mg/kg dose. Rate of forgetting was not increased by any dose. Similar results were obtained with a non-competitive antagonist (MK-801, 0.1, 0.33 mg/kg, IP). These data suggest that doses of NMDA receptor channel antagonists sufficient to disrupt hippocampal long-term potentiation and radial arm maze performance will also disrupt delayed conditional discrimination. The effect on delayed conditional discrimination is due to a disruption of stimulus discriminability and not to an increased rate of forgetting. The extent to which these effects relate to the reported changes in hippocampal long-term potentiation and radial arm maze performance remains to be determined.  相似文献

Brain potentials associated with the manipulation of conceptual fluency in a recognition memory paradigm were recorded. Enhanced fluency was associated with attenuation of the N400 and an increased rate of subjects' endorsing both studied and non-studied items as having been studied ("old" responses) in the recognition test. Differences were also found in latencies previously associated with post-retrieval processing, such that in the setting of enhanced fluency (1) non-studied items were associated with a positive wave from 800 to 1600 ms and (2) items endorsed as "new" were more positive than those endorsed as "old" from 1200 to 1600 ms. The effects on the N400 may be related to the impact of fluency on familiarity, whereas later processing may be involved in the attribution of fluency to prior experience.  相似文献
