This study examined how a maternal high-fat diet (HD) during lactation and exposure of offspring to isolation stress influence the susceptibility of offspring to the development of obesity. C57BL/6J mice were fed a commercial diet (CD) during pregnancy and a CD or HD during lactation. Male offspring were weaned at three weeks of age, fed a CD until seven weeks of age, and fed a CD or HD until 11 weeks of age. Offspring were housed alone (isolation stress) or at six per cage (ordinary circumstances). Thus, offspring were assigned to one of eight groups: dams fed a CD or HD during lactation and offspring fed a CD or HD and housed under ordinary circumstances or isolation stress. Serum corticosterone level was significantly elevated by isolation stress. High-fat feeding of offspring reduced their serum corticosterone level, which was significantly elevated by a maternal HD. A maternal HD and isolation stress had combined effects in elevating the serum corticosterone level. These findings suggest that a maternal HD during lactation enhances the stress sensitivity of offspring. White adipose tissue weights were significantly increased by a maternal HD and isolation stress and by their combination. In addition, significant adipocyte hypertrophy was induced by a maternal HD and isolation stress and exacerbated by their combination. Thus, a maternal HD and isolation stress promote visceral fat accumulation and adipocyte hypertrophy, accelerating the progression of obesity through their combined effects. The mechanism may involve enhanced fatty acid synthesis and lipid influx from blood into adipose tissue. These findings demonstrate that a maternal HD during lactation may increase the susceptibility of offspring to the development of stress-induced obesity.  相似文献

A new species of dactylogyrid monogenean, Trinibaculum rotundus n.sp. is described and illustrated from the gills of freshwater fish Schizodon borellii (Boulenger, 1900) from the upper Paraná River floodplain, Brazil. Trinibaculum rotundus n.sp. has vagina dextrolateral slightly sclerotised ending at level of seminal receptacle; copulatory organ coiled with 1.5 clockwise rings; accessory piece not articulated; body disk-shape with absence of haptor peduncle and three bars (one ventral bar and two dorsal bars).  相似文献

The antibodies of the Dombrock blood group system have only rarely been encountered in transfusion practice, and anti-Dob has not previously been implicated in an acute hemolytic transfusion reaction. We have encountered the first such case involving a chronically transfused black female with hemoglobin SS disease and multiple antibodies in her serum. During a previous admission for sickle cell crisis, the patient received 3 units of compatible blood with no untoward effects. Serum obtained 21 days later contained, in addition to the known antibodies, anti-S plus an unidentified antibody showing characteristics of HTLA. Blood lacking the E, K1, Fy(a), Jk(b) and S antigens was obtained, and 2 least incompatible units were transfused. While administering the second unit, the patient complained of fever and low back pain, and hemoglobinemia was detected. Anti-Dob was identified in the post-reaction samples by absorption-elution tests, and the patient was confirmed to be Do(a+b–). The first unit transfused during this hemolytic episode tested Do (b+). This case, and a similar case involving anti-Doa reported in 1986, strengthens the belief that Dombrock antibodies are clinically significant and illustrates the need for their differentiation, prior to transfusion from less clinically significant HTLA antibodies.  相似文献

Corynebacterium propinquum, which is included in Corynebacterium group ANF-3, exists as a commensal in the oral flora. This organism has not yet been fully recognized as a respiratory pathogen. We previously reported that the first case with respiratory infection caused by C. propinquum. On the other hand, Corynebacterium pseudodiphtheriticum is recognized as a causative organism in respiratory infections. Recently we experienced two cases with C. propinquum respiratory infections in our hospital. Three types of the onset such as a community-acquired infection, a hospital-acquired infection, and a nursing home acquired infections were observed. Our analysis indicated that gram staining of the purulent sputum is an essential tool to evaluate whether C. propinquum is a respiratory pathogen or not, because this organism is a commensal bacteria.  相似文献

Background:   The relationship between lipoprotein(a) (Lp(a)) and ischemic stroke is still controversial in the elderly. The purpose of the present paper was to evaluate the significance of Lp(a) in the development of extracranial carotid lesions and ischemic stroke.
Methods:   A total of 371 elderly subjects, studied with carotid ultrasonography (US) and brain computed tomography (CT), was stratified into two groups according to serum Lp(a) levels: the normal Lp(a) and high Lp(a) (>40 mg/dL) groups. Carotid plaques were divided into three types based on the US echogenicity: hypoechoic, hyperechoic, and heterogeneous plaques. Low-density areas (LDA) on brain CT images were classified into three groups depending on their distribution: basal ganglionic, cortical and only leuko-araiosis types.
Results:   The incidence of bilateral carotid lesions and the ratios of hypoechoic and heterogeneous plaques were significantly higher in the high Lp(a) group than in the normal Lp(a) group. Both the mean height and length of plaque were also greater in the high Lp(a) group. Mean Lp(a) levels were significantly elevated in cases with hypoechoic and heterogeneous types, compared to the cases without lesions. Higher mean Lp(a) levels were seen in cases with any kind of LDA than in normal subjects on CT, but there was no significant difference in the incidence of each LDA between the two groups.
Conclusions   These findings indicate that serum Lp(a) is strongly related to carotid lesions, especially hypoechoic and heterogeneous plaque types, in Japanese elderly patients. This suggests that Lp(a) could promote the formation of lipid-rich atheromatous plaque with intraplaque hemorrhage or superimposed thrombi. Serum Lp(a) also seemed to be a risk for all types of LDA.  相似文献
