ObjectiveAltered serum S100B protein levels have been shown in several psychiatric disorders. Our aim was to investigate whether plasma S100B is different in patients with panic disorder (PD) when compared with controls. Our second aim was to investigate whether treatment with SSRIs have an effect on S100B levels in patients with PD.MethodsThe sample included 32 patients diagnosed with PD (21 women, 11 men) per DSM-IV criteria and 21 healthy controls (11 women, 10 men). S100B levels were measured with BioVendor Human S100B ELISA (Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay) kit.Results14 patients were not on drug treatment (43.8%) while 18 patients were taking various SSRIs. Median S100B value was 151.7 pg/mL (minimum-maximum: 120.4-164.7 pg/mL) in the control group, 147.4 pg/mL (minimum-maximum: 138.8-154.1 pg/mL) in the drug free group and 153.0 pg/mL (minimum-maximum: 137.9-164.7 pg/mL) in the treatment group. Kruskal-Wallis analysis showed a significant diffrerence among the three groups (z=9.9, df=2, p=0.007). Follow up Mann-Whitney-U tests indicated that while the control and the patients with treatment were not significantly different (z=-0.05, p=0.96), there were significant differences between the control group and untreated patients (z=-2.6, p=0.009) and treated and untreated patients (z=-3.0, p=0.003).ConclusionOur results suggested that, serum S100B protein level might be decreased in untreated PD patients and that patients who were treated with SSRIs had similar S100B level to healthy controls.  相似文献

Despite advances in the neonatal care, hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy in late preterm and term infants remains an important cause of morbidity and mortality. There is lack of data on the application of therapeutic hypothermia in the existence of severe skin lesions. Epidermolysis bullosa is a rare group of inherited conditions which causes blisters in skin and mucosal membranes. In this report, the authors describe a successful whole-body hypothermia treatment of severe hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy in a term newborn with dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa. They observed that therapeutic hypothermia may also be given in newborns with dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa without any complications.  相似文献

Behcet’s disease is generally defined by oral and genital ulcers and uveitis. It is also known as a recurrent multisystemic and inflammatory disease. It is mostly seen in Mediterranean countries and the Far East.The aetiology of Behcet’s disease is associated with viral, toxic, bacterial and immunological factors. It was defined in 1963 as an auto-immune disease caused by auto-antibodies against the oral mucosa. Vascular involvement is 2–7% and it is usually seen in patients between the ages of 20 and 40 years.Behcet’s disease is a non-specific arterial and venous vasculitis.1-8 Proximal and distal anastomotic aneurysm formation after surgery is not rare one to 12 months postoperatively. Recurrent surgical interventions increase the risk of mortality and morbidity.9,10 Cardiovascular involvement in Behcet’s disease includes pericarditis, coronary arterial disease, cardiomyopathy and valvular dysfunction.11 The aim of this study was to report our experience of cardiovascular involvement with asymptomatic Behcet’s disease.  相似文献

The determination of the approximately truest value in height measurement is important in many fields, but it is difficult to perform true measurements, especially in the elderly individuals. We planned to investigate the following items in geriatric Turkish population: to calculate the decrease in height with advancing age by using the standing height measurement and estimated height derived from the knee height; to evaluate the significance of difference between the two measurement methods in the calculation of body mass index (BMI) and waist/height ratio (WHtR); to determine the cut-off value of WHtR according to estimated height in elderly individuals. We studied 551 cases aged between 19 and 97 years. Knee height was measured using a sliding caliper in a sitting position. Linear regression analysis was carried out to derive predictive equations for the estimation of stature with adults (≤50 years of age) according to the gender. This equation was then used to estimate height among elderly subjects. Of the cases, 60.3% were <60 years (mean: 48.75 ± 7.50); 39.7% of the cases were >60 years (mean: 69.51 ± 7.12). Estimated BMI (EBMI) measurements in the females and males >60 years were in average 1.23 kg/m2 and 0.92 kg/m2 higher than their real BMIs, respectively. EBMI measurements in the females <60 years were 0.32 kg/m2 higher than their real BMIs (p < 0.01). There is a statistically significant difference between WHtR in the females of both age groups, and in the males >60 years, as compared to our estimated WHtR (EWHtR) measurements (p < 0.01). The cut-off point of WHtR was 0.61 and 0.58 in the female and male cases of >60 years in our study, respectively. WHtR seemed to be a better anthropometric index that could predict most cardiometabolic risk factors in our study. EWHtR emerged to be a better cardiometabolic risk index especially in the elderly group.  相似文献

Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is one of the most frequent extra-articular manifestations of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). High frequency ultrasonography (US) is a sensitive and specific method in diagnosis of CTS. This study is aimed to: firstly assess diameter frequency of CTS in RA with US and compare with a control group; secondly, investigate relationship of CTS with disease activity. One hundred consecutive RA patients (women/men: 78/22) fulfilling ACR 1987 RA criteria and 45 healthy controls (women/control: 34/11) were enrolled into study. Disease activity parameters, RA and CTS patient global assessment and health assessment questionnaire (HAQ-DI) were recorded. Both patient and control group were questioned about secondary causes of CTS, and Katz hand diagram, Boston CTS questionnaire and Phalen ve Tinel tests were applied once for each hand. Wrist joint and carpal tunnel were assessed with US grey scale and power Doppler US, then cross-sectional area of median nerve (CSA) was calculated. Patients with median nerve CSA between 10.0 and 13.0 mm(2) were evaluated with electromyography (EMG). CTS was diagnosed if CSA of median nerve >13.0 mm(2) or CTS was shown with NCS. Although there was no difference between RA patients and controls in age, sex, history of DM (+) and goitre, CTS was more frequent in RA group (respectively, 17.0% vs. 4.4%, P = 0.038). In RA group with CTS, age, history of DM, disease duration, HAQ-DI score, CTS patient global score, Boston symptom severity and functional status scores were elevated compared to without CTS [respectively, 57 (36-73) vs. 50 (24-76), P = 0.041; 35.3% vs. 6.0%, P < 0.001; 108 (12-396) months vs. 72 (6-360) months, P = 0.036; 1.93 (0.75-2.87) vs. 1.125 (0-2.75), P = 0.013; 52 (1-97) vs. 25 (0-91), P = 0.001; 2.81 (1.18-4.17) vs. 2.0 (1.0-4.01), P = 0.01; 3.37 (1.37-5.0) vs. 2.25 (1.0-5.0), P = 0.008]. No difference was found between CTS (+) and (-) RA patients in acute phase reactants, disease activity and US findings (P > 0.05). Sensitivity of Katz hand diagram was higher than Tinel and Phalen tests (respectively, 100, 60.0, 66.7%). Boston symptom and functional scores of RA patients with CTS diagnosed by EMG were increased than patients CTS (-) by EMG [respectively, 3.05 (1.90-4.27) vs. 1.55 (1.0-2.90), P = 0.002; 3.25 (1.73-3.82) vs. 1.12 (1.0-2.10), P = 0.008]. CTS frequency in RA was found higher than normal population, especially in patients with additional risk factors of CTS. There was no relationship between CTS and disease activity. CTS group had long disease duration and worse functional status. CTS could be a result of the chronic course in RA. In patient with CSA between 10 and 13 mm(2), Boston CTS questionnaire might give additional idea about CTS.  相似文献

Sarcoidosis is a chronic, multisystemic, non-caseating granulomatous disease of unknown etiology. Nasopharyngeal involvement is very rare in sarcoidosis. The objective of this report was to evaluate a rare involvement of sarcoidosis. This report includes a case of nasopharyngeal sarcoidosis. A 51-year-old female with nasopharyngeal sarcoidosis was treated as sarcoidosis, and she was better. Nasopharyngeal involvement is very rare in sarcoidosis but it must be kept in mind.  相似文献

We tested human participants on a modified peak procedure in order to investigate the relation between interval timing and reward processing, and examine the interaction of this relation with three different dopamine-related gene polymorphisms. These gene polymorphisms affected the expression of catechol-o-methyltransferase, which catabolizes synaptic dopamine primarily in the prefrontal cortex (COMT Val158Met polymorphism), D2 dopamine receptors primarily in the striatum (DRD2/ANKK1-Taq1a polymorphism), and dopamine transporters, which clear synaptic dopamine in the striatum (DAT 3VNTR variant). The inclusion of these polymorphisms allowed us to investigate dissociable aspects of the dopamine system and their interaction with reward magnitude manipulations in shaping timed behavior. These genes were chosen for their roles in reward processing and cortico-striatal information processing that have been implicated for interval timing. Consistent with recent animal studies, human participants initiated their timed anticipatory responding earlier when expecting a larger reward in the absence of any changes in the timing of response termination or perceived time. This effect however was specific to two out of four evaluated COMT and DRD2 polymorphism combinations that lead to high prefrontal dopamine coupled with high D2 density and low prefrontal dopamine coupled with low D2 density. Larger rewards also decreased timing precision indices, some of which interacted with the COMT polymorphism. Furthermore, the COMT polymorphism that leads to higher prefrontal dopamine resulted in weaker manifestation of memory variability (relative to threshold variability) in timed behavior. There was no effect of DAT polymorphisms on any of the core behavioral measures. These results suggest that the reward modulates decision thresholds rather than clock speed, and that these effects are specific to COMT and DRD2 epistasis effects that presumably constitute a balanced prefrontal and striatal dopamine transmission.  相似文献
