Medial thalamic damage produces memory deficits in humans (e.g., Korsakoff’s syndrome) and experimental animals. Both the anterior thalamic nuclei (ATN) and rostral intralaminar plus adjacent lateral thalamic nuclei (ILN/LT) have been implicated. Based on the differences in their main connections with other neural structures, we tested the prediction that ATN lesions would selectively impair acquisition of spatial location discrimination, reflecting a hippocampal system deficit, whereas ILN/LT lesions would impair acquisition of visual pattern discrimination, reflecting a striatal system deficit. Half the rats were first trained in a spatial task in a water maze before switching to a visual task in the same maze, while the remainder were tested with the reverse order of tasks. Compared with sham-operated controls, (1) rats with ATN lesions showed impaired place learning, but normal visual discrimination learning, (2) rats with ILN/LT lesions showed no deficit on either task. Rats with ATN lesions were also hyperactive when their home cage was placed in a novel room and remained more active than ILN/LT or SHAM rats for the subsequent 21 h, especially during the nocturnal phase. These findings confirmed the influence of ATN lesions on spatial learning, but failed to support the view that ILN/LT lesions disrupt striatal-dependent memory. 相似文献

We present the case of a 51-year old female patient with acromegaly that was resistant to somatostatin analogs and dopamine agonists. The patient was diagnosed with breast cancer requiring treatment with the anti-estrogen tamoxifen. Prior to initiating the treatment with tamoxifen, the IGF-I level was very high at 415% of the upper limit of normal for the patient’s age and sex. During the tamoxifen treatment, the level of IGF-I dropped spectacularly down to normal levels. To describe glucose status changes in patients with acromegaly receiving somatostatin analog lanreotide as primary treatment. This retrospective, single-center study conducted during 1996-2008, included acromegalic patients receiving primary lanreotide treatment. Baseline and last follow-up visit assessments included glucose status (according to American Diabetes Association criteria), growth hormone (GH), and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) levels. Glucose control was considered improved when fasting plasma glucose or antidiabetic treatments were reduced, and deteriorated if fasting glucose was the same/higher but with increased antidiabetic treatments. 42 patients (median age 50?years; range 29-75?years) were included. At baseline, 26 (62%) were normoglycemic, eight (19%) had impaired glucose tolerance/fasting glycemia, and eight (19%) had diabetes mellitus; family history of diabetes mellitus was significantly associated with abnormal glucose status. At final visit, the mean (SE) lanreotide dose was 108 (21) mg/month. Median treatment duration was 23?months, range 3-138?months, and 74% of patients received the 120-mg dose. Median GH levels decreased significantly (baseline, 12 [5-20] μg/l; final visit, 2.1 [1.0-4.7] μg/l; P?0.0001); IGF-1 levels were age- and sex-normalized in 33% of patients. Glucose control deteriorated in seven patients (17%) and improved from abnormal levels in 10 (24%). Deterioration was associated with smaller GH decreases (median change, -3.4?μg/l vs. -10.7?μg/l, P?=?0.014) and improvement with trend to lower BMI and younger age. During primary lanreotide treated acromegalic patients 60% had no change, 24% had an improvement and 17% had a worsening of glucose status. The context has an important role on the behaviors and meanings that even some aspects of it are distorted, amplified or manipulated by the media. These contexts are increasingly difficult to understand because of the theatricality of our society. Sometimes it promotes certain abuses, creates guilt and gives a biased reading of events before any judgment source of morbid rationalism. Orchestrate by the media world located more in a temporality of the moment without feedback, it is increasingly virtual. The reality that builds on the previously constructed chimera is life in a time of increasingly shifted with the judicial time left to graze the absurd. In addition, the context is difficult to grasp by the judges. Indeed, in many judgments, including cases with families of judges, only lawyers have the right to speak and the volume of work has little time to understand it. The matrix model ACT is a tool that can illuminate our understanding of certain actions that give them different meanings depending on the individual in relation to what is important to them and their needs. A study of the context seems crucial in understanding a judicial fact and to understand its reality. In addition, in many complaints daily time listening and mediation avoid judgments which complicates it. Cluster analysis of water-maze reference-memory performance distinguished subpopulations of young adult (3-5 months), aged (25-27 months) unimpaired (AU) and aged impaired (AI) rats. Working-memory performances of AU and AI rats were close to normal (though young and aged rats differed in exploration strategies). All aged rats showed impaired procedural-memory. Electrically evoked release of tritium was assessed in striatal slices (preloaded with [(3)H]choline) in the presence of oxotremorine, physostigmine, atropine+physostigmine, quinpirole, nomifensine or sulpiride. Aged rats exhibited reduced accumulation of [(3)H]choline (-30%) and weaker transmitter release. Drug effects (highest concentration) were reductions of release by 44% (oxotremorine), 72% (physostigmine), 84% (quinpirole) and 65% (nomifensine) regardless of age. Sulpiride and atropine+physostigmine facilitated the release more efficiently in young rats versus aged rats. The sulpiride-induced facilitation was weaker in AI rats versus AU rats; it significantly correlated with reference-memory performance. The results confirm age-related alterations of cholinergic and dopaminergic striatal functions, and point to the possibility that alterations in the D(2)-mediated dopaminergic regulation of these functions contribute to age-related reference-memory deficits. 相似文献
