PURPOSE: The purpose of this work was to evaluate the correlation of tumor angiogenesis and dynamic CT in lung adenocarcinoma. METHOD: Thirty-five consecutive patients with lung adenocarcinoma underwent dynamic chest CT. Maximum attenuation of dynamic CT was compared with microvessel densities (MVDs) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: The mean peak attenuation (A(PA)) of lung adenocarcinoma correlated with MVD (r = 0.689, p < 0.0001). VEGF positiveness of lung adenocarcinoma was 63%. There was a significant difference in A(PA) between VEGF-positive and -negative lung adenocarcinomas (39.9 +/- 3.9 and 24.3 +/- 2.3; p < 0.05). The mean MVDs of VEGF-positive adenocarcinomas were significantly higher than those of negative ones (82.5 +/- 5.9 and 49.2 +/- 7.1; p < 0.05). The mean A(PA) of VEGF-positive lung adenocarcinomas correlated positively with MVD (r = 0.707, p < 0.0001). CONCLUSION: The A(PA) value of dynamic CT reflects MVD in lung adenocarcinoma. The A(PA) value of dynamic CT might be an index for VEGF-related tumor angiogenesis.  相似文献

OBJECT: Brain check-up is very important for detecting the incidence and prevalence of aneurysms in the population and to get the definite strategy for the treatment of intracranial aneurysms. METHODS: This is a retrospective study of 116 aneurysms detected by brain check-up between 1998-1999 which were treated either by clipping or endovascular coiling. In some cases the aneurysmal wall was resected for histopathological examination and compared with five normal autopsy cases. CONCLUSIONS: Direct surgery is the primary option for a patient with an aneurysm in the anterior circulation especially in young patients. Intravascular therapy is suitable for aneurysms in the posterior circulation and in intracavernous site.  相似文献

We had reported on the basis of experimental findings that the efficacy of protecting the suture line in tracheoplasty by using a self-fascia lata and GRF glue. This time we investigated the effectiveness of GRF glue in the respiratory surgery on the basis of clinical findings. All ten cases in which GRF glue was used resulted in an excellent outcome, namely, GRF glue prevented from air leakage, bleeding and leakage of chyle. Moreover, it was not recognized that any grave side effects occurred in any cases after using GRF glue. We could conclude that GRF glue was a useful material for the respiratory surgery, especially for the case that had a dead space after lobectomy. However its price is not inexpensive, therefore, there seems need to restrict the use of GRF glue--for example--to cases of Giant bulla resection, residual of a large dead space as a postoperative possibility and chemotherapy performed before an operation, and so on.  相似文献

In an attempt to avoid the deleterious effect of cardiopulmonary bypass, off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting has been rediscovered and spread. We often accomplish the ischemic preconditioning (IP) in off-pump CABG. IP is the phenomenon in which sublethal episode of myocardial ischemia result in increased tolerance to a later, potentially lethal, episode of ischemia. To evaluate the cardioprotective effect of IP and an ATP-sensitive potassium channel (KATP) opener, oxidative radical scavenger, 43 clinical cases were examined. The myocardial tissue oxygen saturation was measured by near-infra red spectroscopy during IP. Twelve cases were subjected to accomplish simple IP (5 min x twice), and 29 cases received pharmacological IP (administrated allopurinol preoperatively and nicorandil intraoperatively; 3 min x once). The result showed that the tissue oxygen of pharmacological IP group is superior to that of simple IP group. The concomitant use of IP and KATP opener, oxidative radical scavenger both ameliorated cardiac dysfunction during the ischemia in anastomotic occlusion of the coronary artery, and improved the postischemic functional recovery. These results suggest that we would be able to decrease both duration and the number of times of IP by using KATP opener and oxidative radical scavenger.  相似文献

Mediastinitis following cardiac surgery occurs infrequently, but features both high mortality and morbidity, especially in patients with an artificial graft. A 24-year-old man was admitted with a diagnosis of Williams'syndrome with supraaortic stenosis. After ascending aorta and hemiarch reconstruction, mediastinitis developed, which was treated successfully with mediastinal irrigation using electrolized soft acid aqueous solution at one liter per day for 3 days. This procedure appears to be an effective method for treatment of mediastinitis following cardiac surgery.  相似文献

The main physiologically active polyphenol in green tea extractis (–)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Green tea extracthas an advantage over EGCG as a cancer chemopreventive agentfor humans, as is apparent from the Japanese custom of injestinggreen tea on a daily basis. Green tea extract similarly inhibitedprotein kinase C activation by teleocidin, a tumor promoter,as did EGCG. In addition, EGCG and green tea extract showedinhibitory effects on the growth of lung and mammary cancercell lines with similar potencies. An experiment using the estrogen-dependentMCF-7 cell line showed the mechanisms of action of these compoundsto be inhibiting the interaction of estrogen with its receptors.Considering our previous results of a single application ofEGCG to mouse skin inhibiting the specific binding of 3H-12-0-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate(3H-TPA) and 3H-okadaic acid, we postulated that EGCG and compoundsin green tea extracts would block the interaction of tumor promoters,hormones and growth factors with their receptors: a kind ofsealing effect. The expression of a membrane-associated lymphotoxin molecule (mLT) on lymphokine-activated killer (LAK) cells obtained from 18 patients with malignant tumors and its role in the tumor cell killing mechanisms were investigated. LAK cells from tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL-LAK cells) were mainly composed of CD3-positive cells, whereas LAK cells from peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL-LAK cells) were mainly composed of CD16- and CD56-positive cells. However, mLT was found to be expressed on TIL-LAK cells as well as PBL-LAK cells. The degree of mLT expression correlated with the killing activity of LAK cells towards L929 cells (r=0.806, P <0.01, n = 15), but not with that towards Daudi or K562 cells. Although the degree of mLT expression correlated with the amount of secreted lymphotoxin (LT) in the supernatant of LAK cell culture, the secreted LT itself could not account for the tumor cell killing activity of LAK cells. Polyclonal rabbit anti-LT antibody partially inhibited the killing activities of LAK cells towards L929 cells and this inhibition was found in the combination of autologous tumor cells and PBL-LAK cells. These findings suggest the possibility that the mLT-related cytotoxicity is involved in the tumor cell killing mechanisms of TIL-LAK cells as well as PBL-LAK cells.  相似文献
