Acceleration of the Menstrual Cycle by Intercourse   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Hazard statistics were applied to an extensive set of prospective data to test for an acceleration of the menstrual cycle by intercourse. Intercourse appeared to accelerate both the basal body temperature (BBT) shift and the onset of menses. Menses was accelerated more by a combination of follicular and luteal intercourse than by luteal intercourse alone (using the BBT shift as an ovulation indicator). The accelerator effects of intercourse therefore appear to cumulate across the menstrual cycle.  相似文献

There is a sequence of Stereotypie metabolic changes in rats subjected to inflammation or infection. In each stress, rats respond with increases in body temperature and plasma insulin and with decreases in plasma zinc, ketone bodies, and free fatty acids. The data suggest that infection or inflammation causes an activation of phagocytic cells and also that leukocytic endogenous mediator, when injected into rats, causes some of the same alterations. Rats doubly vagotomized respond to infection in the same fashion as intact rats.In conducting the research described in this report, the investigators adhered to the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, as promulgated by the Committee on Care and Use of Laboratory Animals of the Institute of Laboratory Animal Resources, National Research Council. Interleukin (IL)-12 can activate cytotoxic lymphocytes, stimulate natural killer cell activity, induce the production of INF- and inhibit the development of various experimental tumors. We previously demonstrated that immunotherapy of melanoma bearing mice with an irradiated melanoma vaccine (IMV) coupled with IL-2 or GM-CSF had beneficial effects against primary melanoma growth and against subsequent spontaneous metastasis. We also had found that treatment of melanoma bearing mice with IL-12 (300 ng/day) for 4 weeks inhibited the development of primary melanoma tumors in 40% of mice. The purpose of this study was to investigate the efficacy of combined therapy of experimental melanoma with an IMV prepared from B16F10 melanoma cells coupled with IL-12 treatment. C57BL/6 mice were challenged subcutaneously in the tail with B16F10 melanoma cells and by the 45th day, more than 50% of the mice had developed visible primary melanoma tumors at the injection site. Subsequent immunotherapy of mice with IMV, when coupled with IL-12, provided partial inhibition of primary melanoma tumor growth. Optimal results against primary tumor growth were observed when IMV therapy was coupled with IL-12 at a dose of 50 ng/day. Combination of IMV with IL-12 at a dose of 100 ng/day significantly reduced melanoma metastasis to the lungs compared with control mice, and an improvement in mean survival time was observed in mice treated with a combination of IMV with IL-12 (300 ng/day).  相似文献

We have previously reported that immunization of mice with melanoma cells transfected to secrete the superantigen, Staphylococcal enterotoxin A (SEA), increased the production of antibodies to the B700 melanoma antigen, stimulated the production of endogenous interleukin 2 (IL-2), activated the expression of CD4, CD8 and CD25 T cell markers and enhanced NK cell activity. Now we show that immunization of mice with a vaccine of irradiated sea-transfected melanoma cells coupled with IL-2 therapy was even more effective in inhibiting the growth of primary melanoma tumors and the development of lung metastases than was the irradiated melanoma cell vaccine alone or IL-2 alone. The morphological and immunological effectiveness of the therapy was dose-dependent on IL-2.  相似文献

Aspartylglucosaminuria (AGU) was diagnosed in two unrelated males with progressive mental retardation, coarse facies and skeletal abnormalities. Until now, this disorder has been described in predominantly Finnish populations with only one previous case reported in the U.S. We conclude that AGU may be more common in nowFinnish populations than the number of reported cases would indicate and should be included in the differential diagnosis in patients with suspected lysosomal storage disorders regardless of their geographical or ethnic backgrounds.  相似文献

Weak transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) of the human motor cortex results in excitability shifts which occur during and after stimulation. These excitability shifts are polarity-specific with anodal tDCS enhancing excitability, and cathodal reducing it. To explore the origin of this excitability modulation in more detail, we measured the input–output curve and motor thresholds as global parameters of cortico-spinal excitability, and determined intracortical inhibition and facilitation, as well as facilitatory indirect wave (I-wave) interactions. Measurements were performed during short-term tDCS, which elicits no after-effects, and during other tDCS protocols which do elicit short- and long-lasting after-effects. Resting and active motor thresholds remained stable during and after tDCS. The slope of the input–output curve was increased by anodal tDCS and decreased by cathodal tDCS. Anodal tDCS of the primary motor cortex reduced intracortical inhibition and enhanced facilitation after tDCS but not during tDCS. Cathodal tDCS reduced facilitation during, and additionally increased inhibition after its administration. During tDCS, I-wave facilitation was not influenced but, for the after-effects, anodal tDCS increased I-wave facilitation, while cathodal tDCS had only minor effects. These results suggest that the effect of tDCS on cortico-spinal excitability during a short period of stimulation (which does not induce after-effects) primarily depends on subthreshold resting membrane potential changes, which are able to modulate the input-output curve, but not motor thresholds. In contrast, the after-effects of tDCS are due to shifts in intracortical inhibition and facilitation, and at least partly also to facilitatory I-wave interaction, which is controlled by synaptic activity.  相似文献

Pancreatic mucinous noncystic (colloid) carcinomas (MNCC) differ from the usual ductal adenocarcinomas in their mucin expression profile and share with many extrapancreatic mucinous carcinomas the expression of MUC2. Because mucinous carcinomas are frequently associated with mutations of the DNA mismatch repair genes, causing them to exhibit the so-called mutator phenotype, we decided to investigate whether MNCCs of the pancreas are characterized by microsatellite instability (MSI). Twelve carcinomas with a mucinous phenotype (8 mucinous noncystic carcinomas, 3 intraductal papillary-mucinous carcinomas with an invasive muconodular component, and 1 ductal adenocarcinoma with an extensive mucinous noncystic component) and 11 ductal adenocarcinomas were immunostained with monoclonal antibodies to the mismatch repair gene products hMLH1, hMSH2, and hMSH6. For MSI analysis, DNA was isolated from microdissected tissue, and five primary microsatellites (BAT 25, BAT 26, D5S346, D17S250, and D2S123) were analyzed. MSI was diagnosed in case a novel allele was found, compared with the normal tissue. The criterion for LOH was a 75% signal reduction. All carcinomas tested exhibited nuclear expression of mismatch repair gene products, except for one MNCC that also showed MSI at the molecular level. The data suggest that pancreatic carcinomas with a mucinous phenotype (MUC2+/MUC1-) do not appear to normally exhibit mutations in the mismatch repair genes and therefore differ in their carcinogenesis from those in other organs.  相似文献
