BackgroundAcetamiprid (ACMP) is a member of the neonicotinoid group of insecticides. It is extensively used worldwide. The misuse of ACMP creates danger hazards to human and animal.MethodsACMP induced renal damage evidenced by an increase in kidney injury biomarkers. So the goal of this work is to clarify the reno protective effect of Quercetin (Qrctn) and/or Nano-glutathione (N-Gluta) solely or in combination to counterbalance the danger effect of ACMP. All treatments with the previous agents were coadministered orally with ACMP for one month.ResultsACMP ingestion caused a significant rise in serum creatinin, urea, and uric acid, TNF α along with renal cystatin C, lipid peroxidation and nitric oxide with the concomitant decline in the levels of reduced glutathione and IL-10 levels. Protein expression of ICAM was upregulated as well as mRNA expression of NF-κB while mRNA expression of Nrf2 was down-regulated. Immune histochemistry of TLR 4 revealed strong immune reaction. The administration of Qrctn or N-Gluta either individually or together modulated all the preceding aforementioned parameters.ConclusionFascinatingly Qrctn and N-Gluta combination was the most powerful regimen to frustrate ACMP reno-toxicity and may be deliberate as a hopeful applicant for renal therapy.  相似文献

Patients’ preferences in choosing obstetricians/gynecologists are widely investigated, but studies among traditional populations are lacking. Bedouins comprise a traditional Arab Muslim society in the Arabian Peninsula (Saudi Arabia), The Levant (Syria, Jordan and Israel) and North Africa (Egypt). Most of the Bedouins in Israel populate several villages, mostly in the southern part of the country. This cross-sectional study compared 200 Bedouin and 200 Jewish women who responded to an anonymous questionnaire. Queried on gender alone, more Bedouin responders preferred female obstetricians/gynecologists (59.5 vs. 33% Jewish responders, p value <0.0001). Bedouin women preferred a female obstetrician/gynecologist for intimate procedures [feeling more comfortable (66.3%) and believing that females were more gentle (50%)]. However, they and the Jewish participants ranked ability, experience and knowledge as the top 3 qualities of an obstetrician/gynecologist, putting reputation in 4th place and gender in 5th place. Bedouin women strongly preferred female obstetricians/gynecologists, although professional skills were an important factor in their choice of caregiver. The ideal obstetrician/gynecologist for Bedouin women would be a skilled, knowledgeable, and experienced female.  相似文献

Background

Lead acetate (Led) and mercury chloride (Mer) represent important ecological and public health concerns due to their hazardous toxicities. Naturally found products play a vital role in chemopreventive agent innovation. The current study aimed to assess the modifying effect of garlic (Gar) and/or vitamin E (Vit E) against the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) Led and/or Mer-induced cytotoxic, genotoxic and apoptotic effects.

Methods

Human lung cells (WI-38) were pretreated with Gar and/or Vit E for 24 h and then treated with Led and/or Mer either alone or with their combination for 24 h. Cytotoxicity of Led and Mer and the viability of Gar and Vit E were assessed using MTT assay. The alkaline comet assay was used to assess DNA damage, whereas QRT-PCR was performed to evaluate p53, Bax, and Bcl2 mRNA-expression.

Results

The results of this study showed that IC50 of Led was (732.72 μg/mL) and for Mer was (885.83 μg/mL), while cell viability effective dose for Gar was (300 μg/mL) and for Vit E was (26,800 μg/mL). Treating cells with the IC50-concentration of Led or Mer or their combination using half IC50 of both of them induced severe DNA-damage. Bax-expression was increased, while p53 and Bcl2-expressions were decreased. Pretreatment of cells with Gar and/or Vit E ameliorated the previous alternations.

Conclusions

Led and Mer can induce oxidative stress and change the expressions of apoptosis-related proteins in WI-38 cells. Gar and Vit E may be promising protective candidate agent against the toxic effect of heavy metals.  相似文献

Background and aim

Benign prostatic hypertrophy or hyperplasia (BPH) is a frequent urological complain particularly in old-aged individuals. Those patients usually have other risk factors (such as ischemic cardiovascular diseases) for which they might be treated with anti-thrombotic agents chronically. These medicines may induce blood thinning and raise the incidence of hemorrhage. Thus, if those patients needed operative treatment for BPH, they may be at high risk of hemorrhage or its related adverse effects with the usage of anti-thrombotic drugs during the peri-operative time. On the other hand, dis-continuation of these agents can lead to ischemic events in susceptible individuals.

Therefore, this research aims to assess the safety of the continuation of using anti-thrombotic agents throughout the peri-operative duration in patients with prostate surgery in form of Transurethral Resection of Prostate (TURP) only for Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH).

Methods

Patients’ notes were reviewed retrospectively. The entire participants were categorized into two categories. First category was on clopidogrel therapy (CTC) for prolong time and the usage of these agents was carried on throughout the peri-operative period. The second category was not on clopidogrel therapy at all (NCTC). Both of these categories had Transurethral Resection of Prostate (TURP) for Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH). A comparison had been conducted between the two categories with regards to: (i) the amount of blood lost intra-operatively (ii) the duration of operation (iii) hematocrit concentration per-operatively (iv) transfused packed red blood cells (PRBC) if needed (v) clearance of hematuria postoperatively (vi) secondary hemorrhage and clot retention after discharge. Pearson Chi-square test, Independent sample t test and test for numeric variables were used as appropriate.

Results

The study identified 329 patients. One hundred and sixty five participants in the CTC (clopidogrel therapy category) and 164 in the NCTC (non-clopidogrel therapy category). It had been revealed that there was no statistically significant difference between the CTC and NCTC regarding: (i) the amount of blood lost intra-operatively (ii) the duration of operation (iii) hematocrit concentration per-operatively (iv) transfused packed red blood cells (packed RBC) if needed (v) clearance of hematuria postoperatively (vi) secondary hemorrhage and clot retention after discharge (P?>?0.65).

Conclusion

The continuation of usage of anti-thrombotic therapy (clopidogrel) during peri-operative period in patients with TURP for BPH is a safe practice. It is not associated with high probability of hemorrhage or PRBC transfusion or other adverse effects.
