Tinea pedis is a common and frequently recurring dermatophytic infection, which is extremely difficult to eradicate. The often inevitable persistence of predisposing conditions, especially maceration, suggests that application of powders containing antifungal medication to the affected area could be effective in preventive therapy against recurrence. For this study we used one of the most recent azole antifungal agents, fenticonazole. Thirty patients affected with tinea pedis were cured with topical antifungal treatment; both the diagnosis and the cure were confirmed by microscopic and cultural mycological analyses. The results of subsequent double blind antifungal versus placebo treatment (controlled with clinical and mycological tests over a period of 4 months and with a final statistic evaluation) confirmed the effectiveness of such therapy in reducing the frequency of tiresome relapses in such patients.  相似文献

The paper reviews 2014 cases of aneurysm of the abdominal aorta treated over the past 10 years at the Institute of General and Cardiovascular Surgery of the University of Milan directed by Prof. Ugo Ruberti, and analyses 38 which showed inflammatory characteristics. In spite of the low frequency of this type of aneurysm (1.8%), preoperative diagnosis is important since surgery entails greater technical difficulties than surgery for an atherosclerotic aneurysm of the abdominal aorta. In this respect the study of preoperative ESR and white blood cell levels is important: the review showed an increased ESR in 71% of cases in which the aneurysm was clearly inflammatory (a percentage which was twice that found in patients with atherosclerotic aneurysms) and increased white blood cells in 32% of cases compared to 2.6% in atherosclerotic aneurysms. Contrary to previous reports, CAT and abdominal echography were not particularly important. However, in those cases where the aneurysm was thought to be inflammatory on the basis of these findings, the Authors chose to operate once the diagnosis had been made without waiting for steroid therapy to reduce the extent of inflammation due to the well-known risk of rupture and the controversial efficacy of medical therapy.  相似文献

Living-cell microarrays are powerful tools for functional genomics and drug discovery. However, despite several attempts to improve this technology, it is still a challenge to obtain microarrays of cells efficiently overexpressing or downregulating specific genes to address complex phenotypes. Here, we present a cell-based microarray for phenotype screening on primary and cancer cells based on the localized reverse infection by retroviruses. Viral vectors are immobilized on a nanostructured titanium dioxide (ns-TiO2) film obtained by depositing a supersonic beam of titania clusters on a glass substrate. We validated the retroviral cell array by overexpression of GFP reporter genes in primary and cancer cells, and by RNA interference of p53 in primary cells by analyzing effects in cell growth. We demonstrate that ns-TiO2 retroviral arrays are an enabling tool for the study of gene function of families of genes for complex phenotypes and for the identification of novel drug targets.  相似文献
